Saint Thomas Church Southington, Connecticut Almighty God and Father, it is our sure and certain faith that your Son, who died on the cross,
was raised from the dead, the first fruits of all who have fallen asleep. Grant that through this
mystery your servants of Saint Thomas Parish, who have gone to their rest in Christ during the
past year, may share in the joy of His resurrection.

My dear friends,
This week is a busy one. Beyond the typical Halloween things
(which I have noticed that Southington takes really seriously), we
have All Saints Day and All Souls Day. All Saints Day, on
Wednesday, is a holy day of obligation. This ancient feast
honors all those saints in heaven (those officially declared and
those not known to us) who are united in joy with Christ. All
Souls Day, on Thursday, honors all of our dearly departed
brothers and sisters. We pray for those who have died to find the
mercy and salvation of the Lord and join with all the saints in
heaven. They are important celebrations for the faithful.
All Saints Day reminds us that we are not alone. The saints in
heaven are united with us. They are human beings and lived
lives like ours. They strove to build up their relationship with
God here on earth and showed others a path to holiness. The
saints pray before the thrown of God for us. They inspire us and
guide us to join them in the joys of Paradise. This solemnity
reminds us that heaven and earth are not so distant, and we are all
called to be saints in Christ.
All Souls Day reminds us that we too can offer something for
those who have died. Not only do saints pray for us, but we pray
for those who have died. We pray that they know the peace,
love, mercy, and joy of Christ in Eternal Salvation. The love we
have for others does not die with their deaths, nor does the
relationship end. We are united in the same familiar bonds with
them, and our prayers keep us united. As we are united to them,
we pray that they are united with God in heaven. This continues
to build up our ties with the Communion of Saints. This feast
reminds us that death is not the end, it is just a new beginning in
our relations with one another and our God.
I hope to see you all at church for the holy day and All Souls
Day this week. These beautiful liturgies unite us all in prayer. It
builds up the bonds of the parish family and the Church on earth.
As we pray for our dearly departed brothers and sisters, we also
pray for those of our fellow parishioners and all the faithful. It
not only reinforces our ties to heaven, but it also strengthens the
love we share with fellow believers here. When we recognize
that we are not alone in loss, grief, and pain, we know that we are
never alone. Those who have died are always with us, and those
who remain stand with us. It’s a very powerful reality.
Hopefully yours in Christ, Fr. Joe
