two or all three. All are welcome!

SEMINARIAN CHRISTMAS GIFT CARDS 2015—The
Diocese currently has 15 dedicated men called by Christ to study
and prepare for the priesthood. Our seminarians have little
earning power during their theological formation but they still
have personal expenses. Whether it’s gas to travel to parish assignments, an unexpected car repair or maybe just enough black
socks to get through the week, they can use a helping hand. The
everyday expenses that we all incur can be more challenging for
them as they prepare to dedicate their lives to Christ and serve the
faithful of the Diocese of Springfield. In this small way, we can
give back to these fine men for Christmas 2015. The envelopes will be on the table in the church (side door/school side). All
instructions for the givers are included in the envelope they select.
Givers returns are to be deposited in the collection basket or
return to the parish office by Sunday, December 20.
PRAYERS FOR DECEASED—Carlo Lovotti. May his soul and
the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
Parish Offertory Gift—November 21/22 $12,148.67
Human Development—November 21/22 $ 2,513.00
Thank you for your support.
FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONEPTION is a holy day

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT—NOVEMBER 29
As we enter Advent, the Gospel urges us to brush the dust off
our awareness. We are to become alert to God entering our lives
as Emmanuel, the One sent to be our “light forever” (Isaiah
60:19). Becoming vigilant about this radiant presence is like
patiently waiting for a sunrise: as we sit in the pre-dawn’s deep
darkness, our eyes strain to see form and shape. Gradually, a
faint hint of light spreads over the sky and we begin to notice
outlines of trees, buildings, mountains. Eventually, on a good
sunrise day, the entire eastern horizon blazes with glorious color,
filling our eyes with beauty.
The people of old waiting for a savior were like people wait-
ing for a sunrise. Eventually, the Christ-Light came to dispel
what kept them from seeing clearly. The Beloved Child who
came to dispel the darkness in human hearts was much greater
than a magnificent sunrise. The loving radiance of this divine
being in human form blazed through the bleakness of the world,
although many were not alert enough to recognize who was liv-
ing among them.
Advent invites us to turn our hearts toward Emmanuel, who
called himself the “light of the world” (John 8:12) and whom
John’s Gospel describes as “the light of the human race” (John
1:4). No longer the Babe in Bethlehem, the Risen Christ is al-
ways near.
How easy it is to forget God is with us. Advent calls: “Stay
awake! Watch for this ever-present love within you and among
you. Welcome the wonder of this astounding gift. Share the
blessed light with others by your loving deeds.”
Please note the following:
Take home Advent prayer booklets for adults, teenagers,
children and families.
Please support the Giving Tree.

ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE SCHOOL NEWS
STOCK MARKET CHALLENGE
The fourth graders took their annual trip to the recycle plant recently. They were taken on a tour and
viewed a film which explained how and why they should recycle. The students also learned how the items they put on their own curb sides become new products and what they could do with the items that cannot be recycled. It was a great educational experience as always.
The eighth grade Knitting Club has begun. Thirteen eighth grade students have begun work on the knitted hats they will eventually donate to an area shelter. Last year's donation included approximately twenty hats, and this year's group is hoping to do the same. Knit on! If you wish to learn more about St. Thomas the Apostle School, please visit us at www.stthomasws.org. Thank you!
