Everyone is invited to join us for all or any part of the hour. MEALS FOR HOMEBOUND ELDERLY—Do you know someone who is homebound, can’t prepare nutritious meals, and has no one to help with cooking? Club Room. We will make our Scholarship presentation during the meeting with our recipients and families present. PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION – JUNE 27 AND 28—Participation in the Peter’s Pence Collection gives us an opportunity to be a witness of charity to our brothers and sisters around the world. Gifts to this annual collection help our Holy Father, Pope Francis, to support victims of war and natural disasters and others most in need of assistance. The Peter’s Pence Collection unites us in solidarity with the Holy Father and his works of charity toward those who are suffering around the world. Pope Francis reminds us that true power lies not in amassing possessions and resources for ourselves but in giving. “We must never forget that true power, at any level, is service, whose bright summit is upon the Cross...it means entering the logic of Jesus who kneels to wash the Apostles’ feet,” he said. Your contributions to the Peter’s Pence Collection join with the power of Christ to give support to those in need. Join Pope Francis and be a witness of charity throughout the world. Your support is greatly appreciated.

JUNE 28, 2015

ALWAYS OUR CHILDREN WELCOMES YOU—Always Our Children, a support group for parents, grandparents, family and friends of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, meets monthly on the first Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Parish Community Room located in the convent building at 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, Mass. Using the quote from the National Conference of Catholic Bishops’ statement to parents of gay children, “You are always my child; nothing can ever change that. You are a child of God, gifted and called for a purpose in God’s design”, this group seeks to assist families and friends through education and support. Always Our Children welcomes family and friends of LGBT persons to its monthly meetings. Call Sacred Heart Rectory, 732-3721, weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for more information or e-mail [email protected] and a contact person will reply. RACHEL’S VINEYARD RETREATS—A Rachel’s Vineyard weekend retreat is an opportunity for any woman, man, couple, grandparent or sibling who struggles with the emotional or spiritual pain of abortion. This powerful experience allows the soul to speak its sorrow, as participants enter the grieving process, identify effects the abortion had and release deep feelings of anger, shame, and guilt that frequently accompany an abortion experience. This unique retreat process is designed specifically to help retreatants experience the gentleness, mercy, compassion, and the unconditional love of Jesus as they walk through the journey to forgiveness. Participants re-connect with the child/children who have been aborted on a spiritual level and give them honor and dignity through many special exercises as well as in a memorial service. Those who journey through their grief allow God to transform the experience into something that gives hope, liberation and peace. The next Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat will be held in Stockbridge, MA on July 17-19, 2015. If you or a friend are hurting from an abortion experience don’t delay, take the first step toward healing. For more information or to register for a weekend call: 413-452-0661. You may also e-mail Suzanne deFriesse@ [email protected], or call 203-417-0504. All calls are confidential. SUMMER BIBLE STUDY—Deacon David Southworth is running two Bible study classes this summer for eight Thursday nights starting July 9 and ending on August 27 at St. Mary’s Parish Center, 519 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow.

Study #1: 6:00-7:00 p.m. ~ Unlocking the Mystery...provides an

excellent introduction and overview of Scripture from a

Catholic perspective. This study is perfect for those who are

new to Bible study. Cost is $20 per person.

Study #2: 7:15—8:30 p.m. ~ Matthew: The King and His

Kingdom is an exciting study that explores the life and mission

of Jesus as recorded in the Gospel. Matthew demonstrates how

the promises and prophecies of the Old Testament are fulfilled

in Christ, who establishes a New Law and inaugurates the

Kingdom of Heaven on earth. Cost is $25 per person.

You can take either or both classes (if you are ambitious!) No problem if you miss one or two sessions, you can view at home. Take both classes and receive a $5 discount (two classes total: $40). To sign up please contact the Parish office, 567-3124, or email [email protected]. Fees include participant workbooks and will be collected at the start of class. Anyone interested is invited to participate.

Vin Govoni will lead us in singing the patriotic songs, which will be sung after each decade.
