FOR CELEBRATION OF BAPTISM 1. Your family should be registered with the parish in order to have your child baptized. 2. If this is your first child, you must attend a baptism preparation class before receiving a date for your baby’s baptism. Call the Parish Office to sign up for the class. Classes are held on the 1st Monday of the month. 3. Call the Parish Office to schedule a date for your child’s baptism.

Fr. Sebastian Gargol

I was born on April 30, 1985 in the 1,000-year-old town of Wrocław, Poland to a traditional Catholic family. At the age of 5, I became an altar server and felt in love with the liturgy. In 2004 after graduating from seminary high school in Czestochowa, I returned to my home city and started formation for the priesthood at the Metropolitan Major Seminary. After I had completed my philosophy studies, I transferred to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan, which is affiliated with the Diocese of Joliet. I graduated in 2012 and received my Master of Divinity degree. Shortly afterwards, on June 2, 2012, I was ordained a priest by Bishop Daniel Conlon and was appointed Parochial Vicar at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Romeoville. I'm very happy about my new assignment and I look forward to working at Saints Peter and Paul. -Fr. Sebastian Gargol

The Catholic Home Missions Appeal supports dioceses in the United States and its territories that lack the resources to provide basic pastoral ministry to their populations. Through annual grants, Catholic Home Missions funds catechesis, seminarian education, lay ministry training, Hispanic ministry, and other pastoral programs for dioceses in need. As a result of parishioners’ generosity, Catholic

Home Missions impacts the lives of nearly nine million Catholics. The dioceses funded by the appeal comprise nearly 45 percent of all US dioceses. For the Diocese of Crookston, Minnesota, the call to a New Evangelization rings home. While there are approximately 35,000 Catholics living within the borders of the diocese, several thousand of these Catholics have become estranged from the practice of their faith. In order to reach out to these people, the diocese must overcome the challenge of distance, as well as a shortage of priests. The small Catholic population spans 14 counties, with only 36 active and 12 retired priests. This shortage leaves one county in the diocese with only a single Catholic church and one priest. With a grant from Catholic Home Missions, the diocese is training seven seminarians for the priesthood. These young men will return to their diocese in order to administer the sacraments within the parishes and to evangelize those who have fallen away and are waiting to be called back into the fold. Mission dioceses often struggle with high rates of poverty and a lack of educated pastoral and lay leadership. With your support, the Catholic Home Missions Appeal can continue to provide catechesis, lay leadership training, funding for seminarian education, and other essential pastoral outreach in home mission dioceses. A Message from our Pastor

Dear Parishioners of Saints Peter and Paul, Father Sebastian Gargol

It is a pleasure to introduce to you Father Sebastian Gargol who has been ordained three years and will begin service at Saints Peter and Paul Parish the third week of June. Father Sebastian has served as parochial vicar at Saint Andrew in Romeoville for three years, coming to us with a great deal of experience. Father Sebastian's photo and biography are printed in the bulletin this week. Father Steven Borello will be with us through the end of July when he will depart from us to teach in the seminary

in Minnesota where our parishioner, James Guarascio, is studying. Father Rosimar Dias who has helped us out on a part-time basis for the last five years will be moving to Arlington, Virginia, to do his internship in counseling with the Diocese of Arlington. We will have a celebration for Father Borello and Father Rosimar the second weekend of June to wish them well. Father Paul Solomon

Paul Solomon will be ordained a priest at the Cathedral of Saint Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet on May 16th. Father Paul's first Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at 12:30 pm on May 17th. Paul is a graduate of Saints Peter and Paul Parish School and is a long-time member of the parish. Please join us for Mass on the 17th followed by a reception and wish Father Paul well.

Confirmation

Congratulations to our Confirmation class! Bishop Daniel Conlon confirmed 143 young people from our parish school and parish religious education programs this Saturday. These students have worked hard to prepare themselves for the reception of this Sacrament by a life of faithful love in Jesus Christ. They not only attend regular religious education classes but have also volunteered for service within the community, take a rigorous written exam, an oral exam administered by priests, deacons and staff as well as making weekly written reflections on the Sunday Mass readings. Please pray for our Confirmation candidates that they will continue to be true examples of Christian faith, hope and love. May Almighty God bless you and keep you.

John Moravecek Hello, my name is John Moravecek and I'm a candidate running for the Parish Council. I have been married to my beautiful wife Gayle for 34 years and we have been attending Saints Peter and Paul Church since we moved to Naperville in 1985. I'm 58 years old and a retired Police Officer after serving 25 years on a suburban Police Department. I am currently the Deputy Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 1369 and also a 4th Degree member with the Romeo Blanchette Assembly 3044. Since being a member of the Council I've been named twice, Knight of the month and family of the month. With the Blanchette Assembly I've been named Sir Knight of the month, twice. This past December at the Council’s annual Christmas party my wife and I were also named family of the year. I'm also active on the board of directors of a women's center called “Well of Mercy” in Chicago, IL., which gets support from the Father McGivney group and the Knights of Columbus Council 1369. As you are also probably aware, the Knights Council currently holds the Parish fish fry in which I am deeply involved and committed to, by the overseeing the kitchen operations. The reason I am vying for the Parish Council is to be completely involved in the rich tradition and heritage along with family/Christian values of the Parish and to be an asset well into the future. I will continue to be part of the Parish until I'm called home by our Lord. Thank you for your support. God bless.

I am a convert to the Church in 1978. This was the result of watching my bride Stephanie’s parent’s bright witness in all they did and said. We were living in Salt Lake City when the Bishop formed a new parish out of three surrounding parishes. Our pastor asked me to teach High School (10, 11 & 12) CCD. The class focused on life lessons, Catholic morality, the Sacraments, and Christian grace. Presently, I am a member of SSPP. I have the privilege and great fun to teach 6th grade RE on Tuesday afternoons. I’m a member of the Naperville K of C 1369. I have been married to Stephanie for 41 years! We have 2 adopted children: Mark, 25 and Katie, 23. I support directly and indirectly pro-life efforts. I am active in promoting the mission of The Acton Institute. Acton is an ecumenical, Christian think-tank, whose mission is the promotion of a free and virtuous society using individual liberty sustained by religious principles. I strongly support how the Christian message is delivered here at our Parish. Serving at the Parish Council level has been a fleeting thought for some time but it is with the encouragement of several Parish families that I come forward. I served on the Parish Council at the new Parish mentioned above for 4 years during the formation of the Parish.

My name is James Streu. I have been a parishioner at Ss. Peter and Paul Church for over 10 years. My wife Sandy and I were married here in 2006, and we have been blessed with 4 children. Our oldest daughter is in first grade at Ss. Peter and Paul School. My wife and I are on the Parish Pre-Cana team and have been involved with marriage preparation for 7 years. I am a Firefighter/Paramedic for the city of Naperville. I would like to be on the Parish Council because the Catholic faith is a priority to my family and myself. I wish to aid in the mission of the Parish and the Church. In my career, I have acquired the skills to work as a member of a team and make sound decisions. Operation Andrew Dinner Fathers Milota, Raj and I would like to invite all men 8th grade and older whose hearts are open to a priestly vocation to join us for an Operation Andrew Dinner with Bishop Conlon on Wednesday, April 22nd at St. Francis Parish in Bolingbrook. NEW RCIA Classes starting April 22

Do you know anyone who might be ready to become Catholic?? Perhaps you have been coming to Mass for years and haven’t yet come fully into the Church. RCIA is the process that prepares and welcomes people into the Catholic Church. If you know of anyone interested in learning more about becoming Catholic, please have them contact Sister Sandra Zorko at 630-718-2154 for more information. A new session will be starting Wednesday, April 22, 2015. and classes will be held on Wednesday evenings.

Religious Education Update

REGISTRATIONS for the 2015/2016 Religious Education year were sent home with the youngest student in each family this past week. Please check your child’s bag. If you did not receive a packet, please contact the Religious Education office at 630-357-2436. Return your registration by the due date of May 4, 2015 for the lowest discounted tuition.

We are in need of two families to host our summer Totus Tuus team. You do not have to have a child in the program in order to help! This is a wonderful opportunity to interact with the seminarians and young women who have dedicated their summer to present this program throughout the diocese. The team needs two "host homes," one for the men and one for the women. Housing of team members takes place from their arrival Saturday evening until their departure the following Friday

afternoon/evening or Saturday morning. Each team will provide their own transportation to and from the parish. Host families can take on different shapes and sizes. Families with children, older adults, etc. are all potential host families. The two teachers can be paired in one room together, two bedrooms are not needed. We do ask that separate beds, air mattresses, etc. be provided for each team member. Bathroom facilities can be shared with the family. Due to the snow/cold days this year, the last day of school for District 204 is Monday, June 8th...our first day of Vacation Bible School! Please don't let this stop you from registering for VBS! We'll catch everybody up on the second day and make sure any child who can't be there the first day gets a treat bag filled with EVEREST VBS goodies. They'll even get a bag of snow seeds so they can make their own snow. How's that for getting back at Mother Nature?! For District 203 and other school districts: You may have finished school but we want you to join in the fun too! DINNER DANCE ON HORIZON- A night to celebrate, give thanks, and have fun!!

One of everybody's favorite teachers, Mrs. Claudia Cassells, is being inducted into our school's Hall of Honors on Friday, April 24, at our annual dinner dance being held at the Naperville Country Club. She will be joined in our induction ceremony by Mr. Bill Blum, Sr. from the class of 1962. Sponsored by our Advancement Board, this celebration of Catholic Education is a also a wonderful opportunity for a marvelous evening of fellowship, frivolity, dining, and dancing. On this occasion we will also be acknowledging members of our faculty and staff who are enjoying milestone anniversaries.

Mark’s Gospel Corner

Today’s Gospel is taken from Luke 24:36-48. Later in Luke 24:53, Jesus ascends to His Father in heaven. Once again, Jesus appears suddenly, announces peace, and shows the disciples His hands and feet. While astonished and bewildered, the disciples experience joy mixed with incredulity. Jesus then explains all that the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms reveal about Him. Like on the Road to Emmaus, Jesus uses the Scriptures to reveal Himself to his disciples and teach them that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and die. He tells them that once the Father sends the promised Holy Spirit, they are to go out, beginning at home in Jerusalem, and preach the forgiveness of sin. This pattern repeats what was just experienced in Luke 24:13-35, on the Road to Emmaus. There is an inkling, an inclination, a burning desire in the hearts of the disciples, but there remains something lacking in their faith until Jesus is finally recognized in the breaking of the bread. Complete faith is not attained until the disciples witness Jesus ascending to His heavenly Father, Luke 24:52. At the Ascension, Jesus’ blessing prompts them to “worship him with great joy…. constantly praising God.” Returning to the Temple in Jerusalem, they openly proclaim God’s work of salvation as recounted today in the reading from the Acts of the Apostles. Now they experience a fuller faith and confidence in Jesus, which leads them to share the good news. The Gospel reminds us that faith and the persistence of doubt are not inconsistent on our journey to God. The Apostles believed, yet remained for a while incredulous. Faith is a gift. It is a journey. While some recognize Him quickly, as Mary Magdala did, others come to believe gradually, incrementally, much like the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4 and Nicodemus in John 3. What the Apostles, the Samaritan woman, and Nicodemus have in common is their willingness to listen, to remain open, and to admit their limitations and sinfulness, in the face of Jesus’ gradual revelation. They do not turn away like those in John 6:60: “His words are hard, who can believe?” Rather, the disciples remain and do not persist in their doubt, even when Jesus’ words are hard to believe, thereby allowing their faith to steadily grow. Like the father in Mark 9:24, a model disciple, we must proclaim, “I believe Lord, help my unbelief,” while simultaneously bringing our children and others to Jesus so that He might heal them.

Six candles burn perpetually around the Blessed Sacrament in our St. Francis Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. The burning candles serve as a constant prayer before the Lord, present in the Blessed Sacrament. Envelopes for you to have your intention remembered with one of these candles and
