MISSION STATEMENT
“At SSRC we strive, through our relationship with Jesus Christ and with one another, to welcome all regardless of
race, marital status, or sexual orientation. We seek especially to accompany those on the margins of society, those who have fallen away, the lonely, and all of those
searching for the presence of God. As a community of believers we seek to grow in faith
through worship, grow in love through works of justice and mercy, and grow in hope that God may be glorified
in all.”

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
To go in the dark with a light is to know the light. To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight, and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings, and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.-Wendell Berry, “To Know the Dark”
Hooray, it’s Holy Week!!
For those of you that love liturgy and ritual like I do, this week we really get our money’s worth with the rich and meaningful opportunities for community, worship, and reflection. It’s a week that sends us on a roller coaster of emotions beginning with Palm Sunday, where we praise and honor Jesus as King, waving palms and singing Hosanna and only a few moments later join the crowd in calling for his crucifixion, all with the background of blood-red vestments and banners.
Lent formally ends on Wednesday and we enter the holiest season in the church year: the Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Here too we accompany Christ and one another on the journey to the cross stopping to celebrate and give thanks for the gift of the Eucharist and practice the Greatest Commandment (“love one another as I have loved you”) on Holy Thursday and then stripping the altar and church and grieving with the disciples on Good Friday even as we pause to adore the instrument of torture.
On Holy Saturday we wait, a hopeful waiting as we know the end of the story. And again, at the Easter vigil we begin in the darkness surrounded only by candlelight until that glorious moment when the Gloria returns, the lights come up, and we sing of the joy of the empty tomb and Christ’s promises kept. The meaning and glory of the light can only be experienced if we have fully entered into the darkness that precedes it.
So this Holy Week, I invite you to fully enter into the mystery of our faith and of the peaks and valleys of these last days of Jesus’s life. Even though we have the gift of knowing the victory of the light, let’s enter together into the darkness for a while first, and find the story that it too has to tell. Who around the world and around our own community is experiencing their own Good Friday and can we accompany them into the darkness of their pain? And how can we multiply the light we all experience at the Vigil and on Easter morning?
A blessed and meaningful Holy Week to you all--I’ll see you along the journey this week from darkness to light.

I can’t believe that our Faith Formation year has come to end for grades K-5. Thank you all for such a great year. I love seeing the children grow in their Faith and I hope to see them all at VBS in the summer.
Thank you to all our wonderful teachers for all their hard work and dedication to our Faith Formation program without them the program could not happen. Thank you for following your Baptismal Promise by working with our youth in their journey in Faith.
Please continue to pray for all our Faith Formation students especially our First Communion and Confirmation students as they continue to prepare for their sacraments this coming May.
