WOMAN’S AUXILIARY CONGRESS DEPARTMENT

In preparation for the National Oratorical Contest, the Salem Baptist District Association

encourages all high school seniors scheduled to graduate in June 2018 to participate in the Salem Baptist District Association Oratorical Contest to be held March 20, 2018.

The Oratorical Contest provides young people with an opportunity to develop and receive recognition for their public speaking skills. Contestants are judged based on a set of criteria that measure their demonstration of intellectual thinking and positive expression in an original written and oral presentation of the annual theme. College scholarships are awarded to the contestants with the highest scores at the district, state and national level The National Oratorical Contest is held annually during the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education Annual Session.

The theme for the 2018 Contest is: “ENVISIONING THE FUTURE EXCEPTIONALLY AS WE LEAD DISCIPLES FOR CHRIST”. Scripture references include Proverbs 29:18; Matthew 10:1; Romans 12:4; I Corinthians 12:17 and Ephesians 4:11.

Each church is encouraged to have at least one high school student from their congregation participate in this Contest. It is a wonderful opportunity for them to practice their oration skills and to receive scholarship funds that can be used to help them attain their education dreams.

Please contact Janet D. Jamieson, Oratorical Dean [[email protected]] or Reverend Sott Onque‘, Congress President [[email protected]] with any questions and to share your contestant’s name.
