In 1966 he along with his brother, Sohail,Rahman started business by running ajute mill, which was left behind by theirfather.

The government nationalized the mill in1971, which forced them to look for otheropportunities.

The brothers established BangladeshExport and Import Company (BeximcoGroup) in 1972.

They started exporting seafood and

crushed bones in Belgium, France,

Britain, Germany, and the Netherlands.

At that time, foreign exchange control

by the Bangladesh government was

strict.

They imported medicines with the

foreign currency earned from exporting

seafood and crushed bones.

In 1976, Rahman brothers establishedBeximco Pharma. Later on this companywas listed as the first Bangladeshicompany at the London's AlternativeInvestment Exchange.

Over the years Sohail F Rahman andSalman F Rahman expanded theirbusiness in other sectors and graduallybecame one of the largest corporatehouse of Bangladesh.

Salman F Rahman participated in the

student protest against President Ayub

Khan in the late 1960s.

After a long gap, in 1996, he formed a

political party named 'Prosperous

Bangladeshi Movement'.

He contested in the 2001 general

election but lost.

In 1982, Salman F Rahman, along with hisbrother Sahail F Rahman, partnered withthe Dubai-based Galadari BrothersGroup and established the ArabBangladesh Bank (AB Bank).

In 1985, he sold stake to the remainingpartners.

Soon after he and his brother bought a30% stake in IFIC Bank. Currently SalmanRahman is the chairman of this bank.
