Sam’s India visit January 3, 2011 – February 3, 2011

Dear Sponsors, Friends and Well Wishers,

I am very thankful to my employer, Discovery Communications LLC (The popular Discovery TV Channel) and

my management, for allowing me to take a long vacation to participate in our mission trip to India. With my

team, we were able to visit approximately 90% of our 1000 sponsored children. I could not visit the remaining

10% due to the time factor. Therefore, I arranged my PA (in India) and north India Director to visit them on my

behalf prior to my India visit. That way, we covered meeting all of our children.

With the help of our friends, local volunteers, and our directors in India, we conducted Annual Awards &

Rewards ceremonies to our children for their performance at school. These are public meetings attended by the

school staff, sponsors, children, their parents, local government executives, social workers, friends and well-

wishers. We celebrated our 10th

anniversary this year. The largest public meeting was conducted at MVP SDA

school ground in Visakhapatnam, AP, India on January 23rd with approximately 1100 people. We had great

success in getting one of the top notch government officials for our program this year for our main event in

Vizag. It was Dr. Daggubati Purandeshwari. She is the cabinet minister (for Human Resources Development &

Higher Education – Government of India). She awarded the certificates and cash awards (Boggavarapu

Awards) to our outstanding children who secured ranks. These types of events have proven to be very

successful. Many of our sponsored children are inspired and motivated to do well and to receive these awards.

Each program concludes with a meal to all the children and parents. The meal expenses are shared among many

of our sponsors. Each year these programs are eagerly received and celebrated by our children and families.

CHALLAPALLI AWARDS

First of its kind is Challapalli Award

(Dr. Challapalli Rama Rao Award). We

are thankful to the family of Ch. Surya

Rao and Dr. Syamala for coming up

with this award. This award is helping

children to move forward as it is giving

an incentive to those who are left

behind. If they show an improvement of

20% from the previous year to the

current, the child receives an Rs.250

award and a certificate. In Vizag, we

had around 18 children who received

these awards.

The Boggavarapu Foundation sponsored all the educational awards all over the country. They awarded a

certificate along with a cash award of Rs. 1000 for 1st rank, 750 for the 2

nd and 500 for the 3

rd rank.

We are thankful to Dr. Lava & Dr. Navin Boggavarapu & family of Marlboro, New Jersey, USA. Their

We are thankful to the following people for their contributions during our Annual Awards Program

1. Boggavarapu Foundation provided cash awards to all the 150 children

2. Ms. Susan Carson donated money to provide food for 25

3. Mr. & Mrs. Surya Rao Challapalli – provided transportation help (cars) during our events and

donating money for food at our annual event.

4. Mr. & Mrs. Srihari Rao Bollina – provided transportation help (cars) during our events.

5. Roy Prakash Tanukula & Sudhakar Kaligithi – provided transportation help (cars) during our events.

6. Raja Mallepeddi family in USA & Vinodh Mallepeddi family in India as well as the family friends &

host of relatives who coordinated all our programs in Pedalanka.

7. Pr. Joseph Kalekuri in coordinating all our programs in Nizamapatnam.

8. Thanks to Swathi Model School in Pedalanka, Ideal Public School in Nizamapatnam, SDA high

schools in Tenali, Chirala, Bobbili, Vijayawada, Manikonda, Pitapuram, Vizag, Rajahmundry

& Kesanapalli, Golden Rule English medium school in Mandadam, Apollo School in Tuni for

arranging Venues & conducting cultural programs for us. Great team work from everyone!

9. Mr. Ch. David Raj of Vizag, SDA school, MVP colony for working with MLA to bring our Central

minister as our chief guest for our Vizag program and doing our program at his school venue.

10. Our team of Volunteers for Vizag and all locations worked very hard in planning and coordinating our

programs. A special thanks to those who took one full week off to travel to 8 locations visiting our

children.

11. Krishna Donka, our Uplift a Child – India, office manager for almost 80 hours a week of hard work

during the month of January.
