ROSTER UPDATE: The Astros have activated OF Kyle Tucker from Corpus Christi’s disabled list. Tucker, who has missed the last 9 games due to a back injury, is in the lineup tonight, batting 2nd while playing center field. Houston’s top position playing prospect is batting .294 with 56 runs, 22 doubles, 5 triples, 17 home runs, 63 RBIs and 19 steals in 84 games between Buies Creek and Corpus Christi this year. Tucker enters tonight riding an 11-game hit streak. The 20-year-old from Tampa, FL, is hitting .371 with 6 home runs and 14 RBIs in his last 18 assignments for the Hooks. Houston released RHP Andrew Walter following last night’s game. Walter, who began the year in extended spring training re-covering from Tommy John surgery, pitched shutout ball in 5 of his 9 appearances with Corpus Christi. The 26-year-old made his Double-A debut June 17 in Midland, where he converted his only save chance on July 13. Walter won 2 championship rings in 2013 (Tri-City and Quad Cities), and picked up 2 saves over 5.0 scoreless innings during the 2014 postseason as Lancaster claimed the California League crown. TOUGH SLEDDING: Last night’s setback ran Corpus Christi’s losing streak to 4 games. This downturn began Friday in Mid-land when the Hooks let a 5-0, 4th-inning lead slip away. Corpus Christi has been outscored 35 to 4 in the last 3 contests, with San Antonio and Midland combining for 44 hits against the Hooks’ 16. Two days ago, Corpus Christi owned a 3.68 team ERA, which ranked 2nd in the Texas League. The Hooks are now saddled with a 3.88 ERA, which slots 4th in the circuit. Corpus Christi had won 11 of 16 prior to this drought. HIGH HONORS: The Hooks swept this week’s Texas League awards with LHP Alex Winkelman tabbed as the circuit’s best pitcher and OF Jason Martin taking home top hitter honors. Winkelman made a strong bid at Corpus Christi’s first 9-inning no-hitter. Last Wednesday, Frisco mustered only an Andy Ibanez two-out single in the ninth inning. After the knock, Winkelman was relieved by Andrew Walter who promptly induced a fly ball to complete the 6-0 win. Winkelman retired 26 of the 29 batters he faced, striking out 6 against 2 walks. The lefty achieved career-highs in innings (8.2) and pitches (106). In 9 games July 15-23, Martin hit .448 with 10 RBIs and a 1.736 OPS. During this stretch, 11 of his 13 hits went for extra bases: 5 doubles, 1 triple and 5 home runs. He is the 3rd Hook to be named player of the week this season, joining Drew Ferguson (May 22-28) and Ramon Laureano (July 3-9). Winkelman is the first CC pitcher to take home the weekly award in 2017. WOLFE RETURNS: IF Tyler Wolfe rejoined the Hooks yesterday. Wolfe, a 39th round pick last year out of Kansas State, is coming off a 3-game stint in Buies Creek where he went 3-for-12 with 4 runs scored. He also played in 16 games for Quad Cit-ies of the Midwest League, hitting .157 with 2 doubles, 1 triple and 4 RBIs. Wolfe worked for Corpus Christi from April 27 to May 15. Of his 2 Double-A hits, 1 was a home run off San Antonio’s Rafael De Paula on May 6 at Whataburger Field.
