IBM One Cloud: Building the Worldwide Cloud Platform for Enterprises

IBM Cloud: If We Could Do One Thing for You, What Would It Be?

How Banks and FinTechs are Reshaping Their Businesses with IBM's "Bank-Grade" Cloud

Abstract

In this session, we will cover the architecture patterns and technologies that enable us to build the IBM Cloud with worldwide and enterprise-grade scalability, reliability and security. Learn how-to tips and best practices to apply in your organization for building cloud-native and scale solutions on the IBM Cloud by exploiting its architecture and capabilities.

Help us to help you! What things do you need from IBM that would make it easier for you to use the IBM Cloud? What would you need from us to use more cloud tomorrow than you use today? Come hear what our plans are. Critique them and give us feedback on what would work best for you to be more successful with IBM Cloud.

The banking ecosystem is in a state of transformation driven by FinTechs and new cloud technologies. But collaboration between banks and FinTechs is far from simple, derailing many proposed partnerships. Further, cloud transformation requires firms to have a multi-dimensional approach across the entire organization to become digital and cognitive banks. Hear how IBM banking customers are leveraging IBM’s “bank-grade” cloud and its industry-leading Watson AI and machine learning capabilities to process increasing amounts of data in real-time, and enable robotic process automation (RPA) and chatbots with on-premise transactional data and distributed ledger technology—to deliver differentiating capabilities and collaborate with FinTechs.

4060 Enterprise Design Thinking and IBM's Board of Directors

When you build or migrate your apps to the Cloud, securing them becomes a collaboration between the cloud platform provider and your development teams. As a cloud platform provider, IBM wants to give you the control and visibility you need to understand the security state of your IBM Cloud based workloads—so you can quickly detect and respond to threats, introduce and enforce policies reflecting your specific security or compliance requirements, and deploy your choice of advanced security solutions from IBM or external vendors. Join us for a brainstorming session using design thinking methods to uncover your most important needs and concerns that have to do with security visibility and control that you would like to see addressed.

It’s known that there is a mutual impact among the various stocks within and across industries. The challenge is how to identify the key representative stock that actually contributes the most impact to others within and/or among industries, and how to take advantage of those impact relationships. In this session, we present how we apply Temporal Causal Model and Spatial Temporal Prediction, two IBM SPSS patented machine learning algorithms, to figure out internal relations in stocks and do what-if and goal-seek analysis to assist people in seeking a good target stock to trade. We'll also demonstrate how easy and efficient it can be to use IBM Watson Studio collaboratively on this stock analysis journey.

IBM has responded to a rapidly changing technology ecosystem in many ways. At the core of that transformation is changing the way we work, not just what we work on. Over the summer of 2018, our CEO, Ginni Rometty, spent an afternoon with IBM's Board of Directors sharing how Enterprise Design Thinking has been key to IBM's shift. Hear the story that was shared and discover how IBM clients can have the same experience.

Security and Resiliency

1397 Protection of Critical Infrastructure

For years, the primary focus of cyber defense and its adaptation to changing attack tradecraft has been on the protection of applications, data, operating systems and networks. It was always assumed that the base IT infrastructure hardware, firmware and BIOS were relatively safe, though some security safeguards have been slowly introduced in the last few years. Spectre and Meltdown changed all our assumptions on physical hardware and protected memory exposures to micro-attacks ranging from privilege escalation to secure boot to secure update. Protection of critical infrastructure is the new battle space in the cyber security defense-in-depth landscape.

Blockchain 7897 Beyond the Hype: The Reality of Enterprise Blockchain

Tue, 12-Feb 11:30 AM - 12:10 PM

Cloud 3832 Cloud Service Management and Operations: Application Health, Care, Availability and Performance

Rarely has a technology created as much excitement and interest as blockchain, and rarely has a technology been positioned as the solution to so many intractable challenges. Clearly, no technology can deliver the kinds of miracles that have been expected of blockchain. But that doesn't mean it's all hype—quite the contrary! In this session, a Forrester Principal Analyst will provide insight into: Where blockchain (aka distributed ledger) technology is today in terms of maturity and adoption; best practices for identifying appropriate use cases and running a successful blockchain project; the key use cases enterprises are working on, and going live with; and what to look for when selecting a technology partner.

Most people who say they are doing DevOps are doing mostly "Dev" and very little "Ops." Cloud Service Management and Operations (CSMO) is about designing, implementing and continuously improving the operations management processes you use in your enterprise. CSMO is organized into personas who do the work, processes that define what work is needed and how it is performed, and tools to enable and support these activities. Come learn from the experience of IBM architects with multiple customers and see how they support modern applications to: enable agile for operations; refine operations for the cloud; and realize the benefits of Ops, DevOps and CSMO. [This session complements InnerCircle session #3196, "App Modernization in Real Life."]

3337 IBM Machine Learning in Sports Analytics

Spatio-temporal data, the detailed location information of players and the ball through the course of a game, is one of the most valuable type of sports data that have been made available in recent years. This type of data has the potential to enable a paradigm shift in sports analytics. However, due to the dynamic nature and the complexity of soccer games, the rich set of information has had limited use in soccer. We partnered with a sports analysis company to use IBM Watson Studio to implement automatic ghosting, which leverages advanced machine learning technology applied to spatio-temporal data to build fine-grained models of soccer player and team behavior.

Infrastructure 4604 How Do You Store a Zettabyte?

We've all seen the projections of data growth and heard about the complexities of creating storage systems to manage "big data." But what about really, really big data? What would it actually take to store a zettabyte? Get a view of storage at massive scale while comparing the various storage technologies on storage cost, infrastructure costs, power and space, as well as look at future trends. Whether it's a custom solution architected to scale to zettabytes, or a storage system utilizing vendor solutions, it's clear that any large-scale data solution will have to utilize multiple storage technologies to meet cost and performance requirements. It's not about which storage technology to use—it's about how to use them together.

3331 Providing "Whodunit" Context to Kill Chains

Tue, 12-Feb 02:30 PM - 03:10 PM

Services 4831 Agile Contracting—A New Way to Outsource Your IT

The visualization of kill chains is a trending security topic. However, without threat actor information, kill chains of different actors are mixed, confusing threat hunters trying to discern the purpose and goal of the attacks. Detecting threat actors in security incidents can be difficult, since the actors will cover their tracks using polymorphic malware and relay servers. The Whodunit API is a proposed technology to pin down the threat actor behind a security incident, by comparing threat intelligence reports across various sources and reasoning the similarities among the documented attacks. Whodunit can point out the malware families used and the threat actor behind them, even if no existing relationships are found in the reports.

As the largest food distribution company in the US, Sysco needed to adapt and transform its IT strategy on both the local and national level. Sysco and IBM had partnered in a traditional strategic outsourcing relationship since the early 2000s. To accelerate its transformation and implement its specific business requirements, Sysco worked with IBM to transform their agreement into the next generation of IT outsourcing—"Agile Contracting." This new partnership and agreement will help Sysco succeed in its highly competitive industry, while creating an IBM model for the IT outsourcing contracts of the future.

IBM BPM Automates New Business Policy Processing and More at IndiaFirst Life Insurance

Uncovering the Business Value in an IBM WebSphere Commerce V9 Migration

Roadmap: The Future of Watson Marketing

IndiaFirst Life Insurance implemented IBM BPM and successfully migrated 20 business processes from Savvion BPM to IBM BPM within three months. IBM BPM was then integrated with CRM and its Life Asia core insurance product. New business policy processing was one of the key processes initially moved to IBM BPM. A key requirement was to migrate this business process without stopping business operations. IndiaFirst Life also implemented a claims processing solution on IBM BPM, which reduced the time to process the claims from eight days to two days, improving customer satisfaction.

IBM's next-generation modern commerce platform is designed to give B2C and B2B organizations the power to rapidly innovate and drive their omni-channel business with less overhead. Putting together a business case for any migration that weighs risks and costs against the benefits will guide the path you take. In this session, we will share a business value assessment for migrating to IBM WebSphere Commerce V9, and identify any triggers that suggest whether SaaS would be a better option.

This session covers recent trends in the marketing technology landscape and how the Watson Customer Engagement portfolio is adapting to take advantage of these trends, such as microservices. These innovations will benefit customers through increased levels of visibility and integration across the marketing technology stack, leading to faster innovation.

Run and Manage Kubernetes-Based IBM Cloud Private Cloud in Multicloud Environments: Best Practices

Launching Egyptian Companies into Global Markets through a National eBusiness hub

Cloud Security: Threat Intelligence and Analytics

Multicloud is the new normal for many clients adopting cloud computing. Clients align their workloads and strategy with perceived strengths for each cloud. One challenge here is how to develop and operate the workloads and applications portably, yet with flexible and consistent control. Adopting a Kubernetes-based platform such as IBM Cloud Private (ICP) lays a foundation to address this challenge. This session shares experiences and recommendations, based on direct experience helping clients plus internal research, on how to deploy ICP-based solutions in multicloud environments. Topics include DevOps pipelines, automating infrastructure pipelines with IBM Cloud Automation Manager, and managing and monitoring multiple Kubernetes clusters.

The digital channel can connect B2B and B2C organizations with customers anywhere in the world—but many companies in Egypt don’t possess the skills, processes and systems to support eCommerce. To help launch Egypt’s businesses into global markets, EG GATE is using IBM Watson Customer Engagement solutions to build an eBusiness hub.

Customers deploying to cloud need to continuously monitor their workloads for hazardous network communication with their compute clusters, as well as prevent any unauthorized access or behavior. This entails layering analytics on centralized vulnerability data, network activity, audit logs, and application and system findings from various IBM services, partners and user-defined sources. IBM Cloud Security Advisor layers threat intelligence and analytics from IBM Security and Research to detect any suspicious malicious network activity, as well as detect any abnormal behavior or suspicious access of cloud resources based on activity tracking analytics. It provides a central place to monitor threats and manage security in IBM Cloud.

End-to-end, Multi-Architecture CI/CD in IBM Cloud Private with Jenkins and IBM UrbanCode Deploy

Come find out how UPS is leveraging the IBM Garage model to help transform the company and has introduced IBM Watson, Blockchain, and data science to create new markets and disrupt the shipping industry.

Food’s journey from farm to table is complex, involving numerous actors and transactions. A number of issues, including food waste, food fraud, and food-borne illness, are exacerbated by limited transparency in the supply chain. IBM Food Trust uses Blockchain technology to create unprecedented visibility and accountability in the food supply chain. It is the only network of its kind, connecting growers, processors, distributors, and retailers through a permissioned, permanent and shared record of food system data. Learn how Blockchain builds trust and transparency and how IBM Food Trust is transforming the food industry.

IBM Cloud Private gives customers a platform that helps them achieve their longstanding goals of speed and flexibility by automating build, testing and deployment of applications. However, for many the road to an end-to-end CI/CD pipeline, which often starts at the developers desktop and ends in production, is long and troublesome. This session shares some "best" practices that the IBM Cloud Garage team used to implement an end-to-end CI/CD pipeline for a large US health insurance provider. Using real-life case studies, we will share some of the key lessons learned building a set of CI/CD pipelines used to deploy containerized WebSphere Liberty and Node.js applications to both x86 and zLinux IBM Cloud Private environments.

3239 Go Seek Analysis for Achieving Sales Targets

Enterprises often use time series models to forecast future sales values based on historical data values. However, time series forecasting only provides forecast values—not suggestions for sales goals. For example, suppose the number of Twitter mentions affects sales. Then what actions should be taken on the Twitter mentions to meet the sales goal, which is 10% higher than the forecast value? This session introduces go seek analysis, which can recommend actions to meet a goal based on time series forecast values. This approach helps you to set business goals and understand how to achieve them based on recommendations from go seek analysis.

Reinvention by Design in a Telecom in West Africa, Powered by a Digital Lab

How a Leading Automaker Gains Insights and Addresses Critical Issues Early from Customer Calls

Walk-Up Demo: Preview the Next Generation of Cloud Infrastructure

Learn how a leading West African telecom operator partnered with IBM iX to establish a digital lab, and used design and digital services to reinvent its customer experience and re-ignite its employee engagement.

A leading US automaker was challenged to find insights and trending issues within audio of customers interacting with call center agents. The IBM solution used the Watson Speech to Text service to convert audio to text. With minimal customization of the Speech to Text service, it was able to produce highly accurate transcriptions of the audio files, including domain-specific terms. The text was then used within the Watson Voice of Customer Business Solution to find insights and trends. All this was achieved in two weeks using audio files and minimal metadata as the only input from customers. How we did it can be replicated in many Speech to Text based customer engagements irrespective of industry.

Brand Monitoring Using Watson's AI

Robotic Process Automation Roadmap and Direction

Local weather is a strong indicator of customer buying behavior. Enterprises, however, struggle to leverage weather conditions and forecasts at scale to personalize messages and campaigns to take advantage of this. IBM has the most powerful set of weather data in the world in The Weather Company. Using this data, marketers can set triggers for campaigns to occur during certain weather conditions, as well as personalize messages and content based on the weather. This session covers current capabilities and the upcoming enhancements and roadmap to better leverage weather forecasting at local level to personalize campaigns.

Watson Media, in collaboration with IBM Research AI, have developed a brand monitoring system that is based on AI capabilities. 1410 Air Quality Analysis and Prediction Using Spark in IBM Watson Studio and IBM SPSS Modeler

Carhartt's need for better visibility into customer behavior and market trends was highlighted by a spike in demand after Matthew McConaughey appeared in the Academy-Award-winning film "Interstellar" wearing a Carhartt jacket. When the movie opened, demand for the jacket blew up, but it took Carhartt a week to identify the trend and by then they had missed a significant opportunity. The Carhartt story is a compelling example of how AI is helping IBM clients gain insight into their customers, markets and business performance to make better, faster decisions about how to market and merchandise their products.

Air pollution is a worldwide health concern, particularly in China. A system that reliably predicts future air quality and gives early warnings is urgently needed. Weather factors like temperature and wind, and geographic factors like local industry and population distribution, affect air quality. Because air quality and weather data is often collected regularly over weather stations in a region, air quality has spatio-temporal dependency. We present a Spark-based spatio-temporal model in IBM Watson Studio and IBM SPSS Modeler that evaluates the impact of these factors, and predicts future air quality over locations. We demonstrate data preparation and visualization of results using monitoring data from 150+ Chinese cities.

The Security Camera for Your Digital Cash Register: Prevent Fraudulent Transactions with IBM Tealeaf

Driving the IBM Customer Journey through Advocacy

Driving Assistant Powered by IBM Watson

"On the Internet, no one knows you're a dog!" quipped one K9 to another in the famous "New Yorker" comic. The anonymity of the Internet, liberating in some cases, can also lead to illegal behavior. Fraud doesn't always involve stolen credit cards, identity theft or phishing. Sometimes customers are less than truthful when buying online to get a lower price, or abuse promo codes, or exploit unintentional defects in our shopping journeys. While not originally designed for this purpose, enterprises are using IBM Tealeaf in innovative ways to identify fraud by flagging behavior that is consistent with known cases of online and mobile fraud.

The customer experience is everything. From engaging future customers, through offering support for current customers, to building on the work of passionate fans, IBM is improving the customer journey by inserting advocacy. We’ll share how we’ve brought existing advocacy programs into Influitive's advocacy software, and how we’re transforming support and engagement with customers across the business. Come to this session for a hands-on demo of the new IBM Advocacy program!

An automotive technology company is committed to designing innovative vehicle models and delivering superior driving experiences to drivers.
