Devesh Kumar took over as New Managing Director, HPPCL Sh. Devesh Kumar, IAS officer of 1998 batch joined

as new Managing Director of HPPCL on 21.04.2017.

Earlier he was posted as Divisional Commissioner,

Mandi.

Mahesh Sirkek Joined as Director (Electrical), HPPCL Er. Mahesh Sirkek joined as Director (Electrical) in

Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. on

19.04.2017. He is an Electrical engineering graduate

from Shivaji University and possess MBA degree

from IGNOU. He has 34 years of experience at

various capacities in HPSEB Ltd. He was earlier

posted as Chief Engineer (Commercial) in HPSEBL,

Vidyut Bhawan. The Post of Director Electrical was

lying vacant due to retirement of M.S. Rana on

02.04.2017.

Managing Director, HPPCL inspects

Sawra-Kuddu Hydroelectric Project

Sh. Devesh Kumar, Managing Director,

H.P. Power Corporation Ltd. visited

Sawra- Kuddu Hydroelectric Project on

17.05.2017 and inspected the progress

of works at the site. He inspected the

Diversion Barrage, underground Power

House and Head Race Tunnel of the

Project.

Managing Director also held a meeting

with the officers of Project and

contractor of tunnel and directed them

to complete the project on fast track. He

said the works of diversion barrage and

underground Power House have been

completed. The balance 350m Head

Race Tunnel is now progressing

smoothly and will be completed by

September, 2017. The project is slated

to be commissioned by December, 2018.

Sawra Kuddu Hydroelectric Project is a run-of-river

project on Pubber river in Jubbal Tehsil of Himachal

Pradesh. The Diversion barrage is located near

Hatkoti and Underground Power House is located on

the left bank of Pabbar river near Snail village. The

Project will generate 386 million unit per annum.

After commissioning each project affected family will

be provided 100 units of electricity per month for a

period of 10 years. In addition 1% of revenue from

power generation shall be contributed towards LADF

during the operation stage. Other benefits provided

to the project affected families in the project area

include; Local Area Development Fund (LADF) @

1.5% of project cost, training & awareness camps,

merit and sports scholarships, skill-upgradation

schemes to project affected families.

Sirkek, Director (Electrical); Sh. D.S. Verma, General

Manager, Sawra Kuddu Hydroelectric Project and Sh.

Udyan Ukhal, General Manager (Electrical) were

present during the site visit.

Sh. D.K. Sharma appointed Chairman, BBMB Sh. Devendra Kumar Sharma has been

appointed Chairman, Bhakhra Beas

Management Board by the Govt. of

India. He is having more than 35 years

of experience in energy sector in India

and abroad. He did his graduation in

civil engineering from University of

Indore in the year 1981.

He joined as Managing Director and

Member of the Board of Himachal

Power Corporation Ltd. on September

13, 2012. As Managing Director of

Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation

Ltd., he has been responsible for

commissioning of 3x65 MW Kashang

Hydroelectric Project and has

completed 100 MW Sainj Project. Both

these projects have been completed on

fast track inspite financial constraints

being faced by the contractors

working for construction of

hydropower projects. Other two

projects namely Chanju Stage III(48

MW) and Deothal Chanju (30 MW)

being funded by the AFD of France are

in the tendering Stage.

Renuka Dam (40 MW), a storage scheme in

Yamuna basin, declared as project of National

Importance Project and would be taken up for

construction in near future. He has brought in

accountability and efficiency into the system and

have converted a very young organization into a

fast upcoming power generating utility with the

technical and organizational capabilities at par

with any Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU)

working in energy sector in India.

As Managing Director, he achieved highest return

on talent deployed per person per year and

improved organizational performance/efficiency.

He worked on institutional strengthening,

manpower training and capacity building in

HPPCL. He has implemented Systems Applications

Products Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP/ERP)

solution in HPPCL in order to bring transparency

and efficiency in day to day working of the

organization and thereby becoming the first State

Government Utility to implement this system.
