In the discourses of Art, the term 'video' is one of the words that best seems to combine with

other terms of this environment: Video-dance, video sculpture, video installation, video art ... This

new technology interacts (better or worse) with the art world so giddy expanding the range of

applications. Sometimes it seems that the medium itself is the message or simply that the

articulation its multiple possibilities is enough to validate the work.

The pictorial-video, or pictovids, as the artist prefers to call this video work, is a calmer approach

to this technology, always from the point of view of the painter. The new digital video technology

offers so many resources that sometimes drowns the “traditional” inspiration of the painter and

gets him lost in the endless possibilities that the combination of keys and buttons makes it

possible. This partly explains the great divide that occurs between traditional painting and artists

working with new technologies.

Santi Delgado shows that there may be a continuum between the classic job of painting and the

new technological resources and that it is possible to remaining consistent with the contemporary

artistic legacy of Modernity. If the Fauves artists used the foundation of the concept of the

liberation of movement as the color from the color contrasts exalting drawing, Santi Delgado

encourages color movement as creating a perceptual game, as color in motion. The timing this

artist´s videos is essential. Timing understood as a diastolic or systolic expansion or contraction

of the cardiac motion to relax or boost. The slow, the deliberate plan to take control of time,

rather than submit to his tyranny, it is more of a celebration of the values of pleasure to enjoy

and savor life. The philosophy of slow, steady synonymously.

Pictovids, or pictorial videos, are video-clips conceived as paintings in so far as the main criteria

for its creation and functioning are the same as for paintings (i.e. Composition, colour scheme,

figuration-transfiguration-abstraction, content, message...) They are to be exhibited and

appreciated as you would do so for a painting or a photograph. They are loops with no beginning

and no end. The spectator decides the time lapse of attention paid to the piece. Most of them are

abstraction base on figurative deformations and just a very few are narrative in a conceptual

manner.
