“[Biographers] make it sound like there’s some great individual in a garage or a garret who has a light-bulb moment, and all of a sudden innovation happens. But when you look at innovation, especially in this day and age, it happens in teams. Creativity is a collaborative effort in the digital age.”
Walter Isaacson, Author of The Innovators and President of The Aspen Institute, on NPR’s Fresh Air, October 6, 2014

SAP Co-Innovation LabKnowledge brokering
SAP Co-Innovation Lab provides extensive knowledge brokering, an effective way for finding and working with key subject matter experts, substantive specialists, and relevant stakeholders. Most common means to source expertise through SAP Co-Innovation Lab knowledge brokering:
Project requestor – The lead project requestor and chief business stakeholders identify and manage all primary project management and can sufficiently source subject matter expertise needed from SAP and partners.
Personal networks – SAP Co-Innovation Lab actively taps into established channels inside development, product, and partner channels, as well among ecosystem partners to source subject or domain experts. Some project types are served by large communities.
Repeat project participation – Repeatedly active project participants are a unique community of expertise and talent becoming beneficial to future projects.
Social networks – These are not as extensively used, yet there is an ongoing effort to tap into local social networks to broadcast information about the project, its value, and/or the need for specific help or guidance for select matters

Network Watch Dog – attack finderSAP Co-Innovation Lab Tokyo, A10 Networks, Cisco, SAP Japan team
Background: Until now, knowing the details of
packets flowing into the network was not possible. The project set out to use the SAP HANA database running on Cisco hardware and A10 Thunder 3030s to enable visualization of packets flowing into the network in real time.
SAP Co-Innovation Lab worked with A10 Networks, Cisco, and the SAP Japan team to enable visualization of incoming network packets from all over the world in real time, and provide suggestions for preventing system attacks over the network from unknown sites. Network Watch Dog indicates the source IP address, target port, etc. with a graph report. Using SAP InfiniteInsight and other software, automatic notification of attacks over the Internet is now possible.

Real-Time Situational Awareness (RTSA) solution with SAP HANA –Phase 2 Big Data Fusion with SAP NS2, Cisco, Critigen, and Encryptics
Background and objectives: The initiative created a documented working
prototype that will be resident within SAP Co-Innovation Lab to be used as a rapid-deployment solution for SAP NS2. A development template for SAP HANA integrates
geospatial analysis, predictive analytics, map generation, multi-source data integration, and secure end-to-end processing and dissemination of information products. The RTSA solution can be deployed in an “on-
premise cloud-based environment” enabling integration of multi-source data (social media, sensor, location, image, unstructured, structured, etc.) to perform geospatial event analysis based on the aggregation of person of interest, location of interest, activity, and semantic analysis.
SAP Co-Innovation Lab leveraged the proof-of-concept prototype developed by SAP National Security Services, Inc. (SAP NS2) for a Department of Defense intelligence agency, and incorporated remote device position location and securely extended “desktop” analyst capabilities to the remote users.

Tax management framework initiativeSAP Co-Innovation Lab Brazil with SAP Globalization Services team
Background: Brazil has one of the highest tax
burdens worldwide (2011: 35% of GDP). Complying with the complex fiscal
regulations is a serious challenge. At the same time, Brazilian authorities have introduced SPED (electronic bookkeeping) and NF-e (electronic invoicing) to have full, near-real-time transparency on compliance. The SAP globalization services team
developed the tax management framework on SAP HANA to mitigate the financial risk of unintended noncompliance.
SAP Co-Innovation Lab supported and guided selected partners from the Brazilian ecosystem to develop solutions complementary to the tax management framework from SAP globalization services, which runs on SAP HANA.

Background: Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) is
building an analytics platform that it can roll out nationwide to all of the hospitals under its control.
MOH Holdings, which represents the IT government arm of the health ministry, is tasked with building strategic and transformational solutions for Singapore’s healthcare sector.
The lab and SAP field teams, together with T-Systems and Hypercube, built an analytics appliance solution for a federated business intelligence paradigm using the smart data access, information modeling, data virtualization, and dynamic tiering capabilities of the SAP HANA platform. Phase 1 –interactive analytics, completed; Phase 2 –predictive analytics, ongoing.
