• This document provides a quick overview of the automa6c update func6onality available with SAP Host Agent
• The SAP Host Agent is installed on every system hos6ng an SAP instance
• Upgrading the host agent on your en6re SAP estate can be a very 6me consuming task
• An fully automated update of the host agent can be achieved with minimum setup effort
• This document describes how this can be achieved in a UNIX environment but can be easily adapted for the Windows plaForm
• The document is aimed at system administrators familiar with the system copy process for ABAP-‐based systems such as ECC
Introduc4on
Pre-‐Requisites • SoKware Repository for Host Agent
– a shared soKware repository file system located on a NAS or SAN that can be mounted on all your SAP hosts
– the host agent will be downloaded into this loca6on as and when a new version is made available on the SAP Support Portal
– for the purposes of this document, let’s assume the shared soKware loca6on is named /sap/soKware and the host agent is stored in sub-‐directory HOSTAGENT i.e. /sap/soKware/HOSTAGENT
Prepara4on • Prepara6on on each SAP host
– adapt parameter DIR_NEW which informs the host agent where to find the new updated host agent • DIR_NEW = /usr/sap/hostctrl/new
– adapt parameter hostexec/autoupgrade_delay to indicate the length of 6me in minutes between each check for a newer version • hostexec/autoupgrade_delay = 10
– establish link to soKware repository • ln -‐s /sap/soKware/HOSTAGENT /usr/sap/hostctrl/new
Ac4va4on • Ac6vate the auto update
– downloaded the latest host agent patch level to the soKware repository loca6on /sap/soKware/HOSTAGENT
– restart the host agent on all hosts in your SAP estate – this could be scripted
– aKer 10 minutes, check files dev_saphostexec and upgrade.log in the work directory of the host agent /usr/sap/hostctrl/work
