"Science may have found a cure for most evils; but it has found no remedy for the worst of us all -- the apathy of human beings

Juvenile Care was formed with a mission to empower the downtrodden and works towards educating the underprivileged children. This team comprises student from various fields who expertly bring their experience and own unique perspective and work together to create bright for the children.

Our special focus is child rights i.e. providing a right to live with dignity. Our objective is to make the children aware of their rights so that they can play an active role in the society. To accomplish this, we are also working constantly to make the society aware of the concerns

regarding these and also promoting better understanding of similar issues.

The goal of Juvenile Care is to constantly search out for avenues to provide educational opportunities, training facilities and knowledge centers. The education is not just being confined to the basic knowledge of numerals and letters, but also as per the demands of the modern day world, the information technology enabled, thus enhancing the spectrum of opportunities. There are several case studies to substantiate this fact the effort is not to prove a point to anyone, but to boost the levels of confidence and instill a sense of self reliance and self esteem in the hearts and minds of the disabled and disadvantaged, thus rooting out any stigma and phobia that is generally associated with them. As the adage goes “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, was not overlooked, with due encouragement and facilities also being extended to nurture the talents for participation in sports, extracurricular, music, singing, and art related activities. This is being undertaken to mould and develop well molded personality of the wards and preparing them to take on the challenges of life and the world

“Who are they?” you may ask, if you even think to ask.

More than likely they will be ignored, shut out of mind, not noticed because they make us uncomfortable.

The closest we might come to helping them is to wonder in the silence of our minds, “Why don’t the authorities do something about them?” – Ed di Thomas.

Left unattended, those so afflicted face a lifetime of challenges few of us can understand. One could spend a lifetime exploring the causes and issues related to poverty and homelessness, but it takes a strong heart and will power to be shade for them and empower their mental strength and feed them with realistic hopes for their life.

“Auxilium Snehalaya” is a New Delhi based charitable organization working among the young at risk particularly among young vulnerable girls from the street and from other exploitative situations. Snehalaya started its work in the year 2002 in a small rented house in Palam Gaon with 5 children in need of care. Since then Snehalaya has grown into a safe haven for young girls in need of a home, love, an opportunity to learn and to enjoy their childhood. Over the years Snehalaya has helped over 250 girls to rebuild their lives and the hope for a promising future. Major Activities: 1. Shelter Home 2. Formal Education 3. Non-formal Education 4. It was very gracious of Sr Rose Simon (chief functionary of auxilium snehalaya) to guide us as we introduced our project and its details to her. She was very happy to receive voluntary service at her doorstep. She was indeed very empathetic to allot our work timings to our convenience by which we could manage to do our work.

We started our venture with an icebreaking session where the volunteers actively contributed to reduce the communication gap between the children in snehalaya. This session included games like “Find Your Partner”, “Getting to know you”, “Make a name book”, “My favorite things” and “who am I?” Whenever we got a chance, we used to call one of the kids and asked them about the NGO and how the teachers and everyone treat them. Their response was very positive and they were all happy for what they are naturally.

As the session ended the children accepted the team as one part of their family and it made the situation easy for the sect to carry on with the rest of the schedule.

By 1pm team (we) organized fun events and games like sprints, football, passing the parcel, “pakadam pakadi” etc and the children actively indulged in fun.

Every member of the snehalaya was involved in one activity or the

other helping our team spend our time very interactively. Watching

them play together, laugh along with us brought back some of my memories of childhood. Their innocence, mischief was no different from the normal children from us. They helped me understand that the real joy of life is togetherness and small things which remain in our heart and soul forever.

After lunch session with the kids we commenced with an interactive presentation on “Public awareness” and it was very enthralling for us to witness their attention and respect toward our work and care.

We also initiated a “creative session” to foster creative skills of the resident children. this session included :

1. Origami2. Card making competition3. Making a toy periscope4. Wall hangers for their room

It was an ecstasy to watch them learn he art as fast they could.

Soon we started our “teaching session” which included English and soft skills. We enjoyed teaching them some elementary English. We taught them the basics as to how to greet each other and alphabets and

Page 7: SAP Report of Behavioural Science

numbers and other things and gave them home works also. Despite

their imperfections, they had great enthusiasm to learn.

As we adjourned our successful session we gathered the feedback of our first successful venture. To our surprise the organization and the kids acknowledged our work and respected our dedication towards them which was highly encouraging. We also handed over loads of confectionaries before leaving. The glow in their eyes while bidding us our leave left us drowning with feelings of a good deed done and satisfaction.

While working in the snehalaya we wondered “what makes them so special?” The answer we got was LOVE. Love is an only binding force which keeps them together. It made our day so special and unique.

Time spend with those kids taught me how never to lose hope when no help is left and to love and respect yourself. Though their underprivileged and disabled they still hope for bright and happy future. We take them as our role model as they showed us how nothing is impossible. Their positive attitude towards life really inspired us a lot and we are sure it will help us a lot to go ahead in this competitive world. Everybody who is a part of snehalaya loves each other and is united without any disparities among each other and this is one of the things that a normal people like as should understand if we want peace and harmony in this world.

We express our heartfelt thanks to “Auxilium Snehalaya” for bestowing us an opportunity to come across such people and to know them and their point of view.

EXPERIENCEFew hours being in a friendly peaceful environment was an unforgettable and amazing experience. Until now this experience has been the most fulfilling one in our life. During a little time span our group managed, we went to AUXILIUM SNEHALAYA in the area of Drawka, New Delhi where we interacted and taught to children in the age range of 5. It is incredible to see how eager and willing to learn these children are. All of them are sweet, nice and do have a very polite, respectful attitude which provides a comfortable environment for teaching which is completely different than the modern world in which we study. The schools vary a lot in different things such as

Page 10: SAP Report of Behavioural Science

school supplies or the presence of electricity or proper infrastructure. It also differs per school how many children are in one class and which grades been put together. It is possible that first grade children are in the same class as fourth grade kids; this makes it difficult sometimes to teach. As a volunteer you have to be flexible and creative at all times. For instance, the children do not have proper books at their schools; therefore, you have to search for materials which you would like to use. We did whatever we like with the kids; the best part about this is that it does not matter what you do because the kids will like it anyway which is entertaining them. Furthermore, it is important to make fun among each other and members involved within the project. Chief Functionary: Sr Rose Simon is incredible, friendly person who provide assistance and help wherever and whenever needed which made the project even more fun. The whole experience for us meant we were going to live back to the basics which is challenging but definitely worth it even it is for few hours. It is amazing to see how the children still remain concentrated in this improvised school. Finally, the main lesson we have learnt is how satisfied and happy people can be with little or nothing and we recommend everybody to experience this as well.

The kids at the orphanage changed my life completely. The enthusiasm and outlook they have on life makes you want to work as hard as possible to help them. When people say they have a life changing experience at first

Page 11: SAP Report of Behavioural Science

everyone is skeptical, but we can honestly say we are different person. Being in the orphanage taught us so much. These kids are the happiest kids we have ever seen in our life. And in reality, they have nothing but themselves. Just having been able to make a difference by working at the orphanage and to share our time with them, was so incredibly rewarding. It was one of the most genuine experiences of our life. And it means the world to us to help support them. One must please consider the opinion because when something can affect you this much you know it has a deeper meaning and purpose then just us.
