Domestic Outbound Scenario
1 Preface
A SAP based solution for Transportation Management is enhanced with functionality for
optimization, in terms of determination of most cost efficient route/scheduling and carrier
selection. This document depicts a Load Space Optimization within a vehicle resource.
This functionality for Load Space Optimization is provided by ORTEC´s OPLB (Ortec Pal-
let and Load Builder). OPLB can be integrated in SAP TM.
ORTEC PLB can plan the loading of cartons and boxes, pallets and trucks, containers and
other load space types taking into account the organizational and physical planning con-
straints from your transportation partners, products and different transportation equipment
used. ORTEC PLB supports multiple stage packaging from carton via pallet up to contain-
er and delivers clear instructions regarding the work preparation for order picking and load-
ing in seconds and gives you reliable planning of required resources. With this, your ca-
pacities can be planned effectively, the order picking and loading times can be minimized
and the number of freight cost relevant packaging and transport units will be reduced. The
user can check directly in SAP the packaging proposals in 3 dimensional graphics.
ORTEC Pallet & Load Building (PLB) for SAP Transportation Management provides en-
hanced functionality for the planning and optimization of loads embedded into SAP TM.
Highlights of Planning Features in SAP TM:
Automated Packaging Optimization for SAP TM Freight Unit
Display of Load KPI´s (Weight/Volume/Footprint Utilization, Axle Weights, Centre of
Gravity) per Load Space in the SAP TM Freight Unit screen
Display of the 3-dimensional Load Graphic including a detailed item list per Load
Space in the SAP TM Freight Unit screen

Domestic Outbound Scenario
2 Overview
The following shipper scenario has one shipping point and two destination points. The
shipper is creating two Sales Orders in ERP and is going to execute them with one vehicle
resource. First unload the products at the first destination and then unload the rest of the
load at the second destination.
The SAP Standard functionality calculates the weight utilization of the resource and does
one dimensional optimization. The OPLB instead takes into account other parameters
(See Chapter 5), in order to optimize the load space utilization in a more efficient way.

Domestic Outbound Scenario
3 Background
3.1 Operational
This demonstration is designed on a transportation network dedicated for a Domestic Out-
bound Shipper Scenario.
Highlights:
Plan the first Freight Unit
Create a Multi-drop and planning of the 2nd Freight Unit
Display the Load Graphic
3.2 Technical
Scenario is based on SAP Transportation Management 9.0
Involved Architecture:
SAP Transportation Management 9.0
SAP ERP ECC 6.0

4 Process
The Shipper creates two Sales Orders in ERP which are represented by OTR´s in SAP
TM. Then the dispatcher is starting the Transportation Cockpit, in order to plan manually
the Freight Units. As a result of planning activity, the dispatcher receives a Freight Order,
where he can display the Load Graphic with the optimal result.
4.1 Manual Planning of the first Freight Unit
After the creation of two Sales Orders, which are represented trough the Order based
Transportation Requirements in SAP TM, start the Transportation Cockpit. Select the ap-
propriate Selection Profile and the Planning Profile.

Domestic Outbound Scenario
Select the first Freight Unit and the respective Resource.
Click on Plan Selected Items.

As a result you receive a Freight Order. Save it.
4.2 Plan the 2nd Freight Unit
Open the Freight Order and go to Tab Stages. Insert a second Stage, in order to create a
Multi Drop.

Press Save the FO.
Select the second Freight Unit and the Freight Order. Press “Plan Selected Items”.

As a result the Second Freight Unit is inserted in the Freight Order.
4.3 Display the results of Load Optimization and the Load Graphic
Open the Freight Order. Here you can see the utilization of the ressource (SAP Standard).

Domestic Outbound Scenario
Due to the Integration of OPLB. The Freight Order has an additional Tab (Load
Optimization). As the Load Optimizer is taking into account more parameters as the SAP
Optimizer, you can see the utilization of other scales (weight, volume, footprint, axle load).
