This year, the 2nd annual Sunscreen West took place in Los Angeles with more than 100 films competing for awards. In preparation for the festival, I created newsletters to send out to those on Sunscreen's e-mail list. I used the website Constant Contact to design and send these e-mails announcing the festival's accepted films, opening night film, and festival workshops that included well-known industry professionals like actors Patrick Warburton and Joe Morton. I also used Ticketfly to set up ticketing webpages where Sunscreen attendees could purchase tickets to the film screenings. Later, I created blog posts and e- mail newsletters to announce the winners of the festival’s many awards. AN EVENING WITH GEORGE TAKEI I assisted the St. Pete Clearwater Film Commission in marketing an exclusive Q&A with Star Trek actor George Takei. I used Constant Contact to send out e- mails and created a Facebook page announcing the exclusive event. I also created a blog post announcing the event for Sunscreen's webpage. When the time came to host the event, I helped organize seating arrangements and attendee wristbands before greeting guests and ushering them to their seats. After assisting the event planners, I was able to watch Tampa Bay Times film critic Steve Pearsall and George Takei engage in an incredibly thought-provoking conversation about the industry and Takei’s life. MARINE SCIENCE FILM CAMP One of the biggest projects I worked on was the Rescue, Rehab, and Release Film Camp sponsored by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Before the camp began, I was in charge of creating a newsletter announcing the camp and ticket information. The camp met on Saturdays and Sam and I assisted the campers in making their short documentary films. I worked with a group of high school students and helped them with the technical and editing aspects of their film. I was there as a sort of mentor for the group, making sure they knew the day's shooting schedule and helping them map out their plan for their film. Planning, shooting, and editing a short film over just five Saturdays was an eye- opening experience into all the hard work that is put into making a film. SUNSCREEN FILM FESTIVAL From April 30 to May 3, the 10th Annual Sunscreen Film Festival took place at multiple venues in downtown St. Petersburg. Sam and I helped out at American Stage, Muvico Sundial, the Dali Museum, and the Mahaffey Theater checking in guests at the festival and setting up for the many screenings, workshops, and panels taking place over the weekend. I was lucky enough to sit in on a couple of screenings and workshops at the festival, and really see how our hard work over two semesters paid off. INTERNING FOR SUNSCREEN Interning for the Sunscreen Film Festival this semester has been an incredibly rewarding, exciting, and inspiring. It is obvious that Sunscreen and, by extension the St. Pete Clearwater Film Commission, values local filmmakers and talent; being from St. Petersburg myself, I too shared this affinity and it was great to work with an organization that expressly supports the local community. Additionally, it was a great feeling to know that my work, ideas, and input were integral to the festival taking place in the Spring. “KEVIN’S ADVENTURE” One of my first tasks interning for Sunscreen was assisting the production team of "Kevin's Adventure," a short film highlighting the St. Petersburg Clearwater area. My duties included shadowing the script supervisor, hauling equipment between shooting locations, and assisting the talent. This film, commissioned by the St. Pete Clearwater Film Commission, aimed to promote Pinellas County as an excellent place to make films and utilize local crew and talent.

MARINE SCIENCE FILM CAMP

One of the biggest projects I worked on was the Rescue, Rehab, and Release Film Camp sponsored by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Before the camp began, I was in charge of creating a newsletter announcing the camp and ticket information.

The camp met on Saturdays and Sam and I assisted the campers in making their short documentary films. I worked with a group of

SUNSCREEN FILM FESTIVAL

From April 30 to May 3, the 10th Annual Sunscreen Film Festival took place at multiple venues in downtown St. Petersburg. Sam and I helped out at American Stage, Muvico Sundial, the Dali Museum, and the Mahaffey Theater checking in guests at the festival and setting up for the many screenings, workshops, and panels taking place over the weekend. I was lucky enough to sit in on a

couple of screenings and workshops at the festival, and really see how our hard work over two semesters paid off.

INTERNING FOR SUNSCREEN

Interning for the Sunscreen Film Festival this semester has been an incredibly rewarding, exciting, and inspiring. It is obvious that Sunscreen and, by extension the St. Pete Clearwater Film Commission, values local filmmakers and talent; being from St. Petersburg myself, I too shared this affinity and it was great to work with an organization that

expressly supports the local community. Additionally, it was a great feeling to know that my work, ideas, and input were integral to the festival taking place inthe Spring.

“KEVIN’S ADVENTURE”

One of my first tasks interning for Sunscreen was assisting the production team of "Kevin's Adventure," a short film highlighting the St. Petersburg Clearwater area. My duties included shadowing the script supervisor, hauling equipment between shooting locations, and assisting the talent. This film, commissioned by the St. Pete Clearwater

Film Commission, aimed to promote Pinellas County as an excellent place to make films and utilize local crew and talent.
