Installing SAS 9.2 Phase 3 (32-bit) on Windows Operating Systems 1

Requirements

1. Windows desktop Operating System (OS) such as Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista (Business, Ultimate, Enterprise), or Windows 7 (Professional, Ultimate, Enterprise).

2. SAS may not install properly on Home or Home Premium editions of Windows XP, 7, or Vista. 3. You cannot also install our version of SAS on Linux, any server OS, or directly on MAC. Please

see the Installing SAS on MAC section for details. 4. Administrative rights on the computer. 5. A DVD Drive. 6. At least 5GB of free space just for the installation files. Because SAS creates huge temporary files,

you will need additional disk space for smooth operation of the program.

Installing SAS on MAC

SOPH MITS do not own a version of SAS that can run directly on MAC. To install SAS on MAC computers, you must have virtualization software such as Oracle VM VirtualBox, VMWare Fusion. These virtualization packages can host Windows OS such as XP, 7, or Vista. Barnes & Nobles at UAB Bookstore sells the Windows OS installations discs at a nominal price (~$15.99). Once the preceding two steps are done, SAS can then be installed on the guest Windows OS. The links for these packages are listed below:

- Oracle VM VirtualBox: http://www.virtualbox.org - VMware Fusion: http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/ - Parallels: http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/

Recommendations

1. If you have 64-bit version of Windows OS, we recommend that you get the 64-bit version of SAS so that you can get the full potential of a 64-bit statistical program.

2. Even though may be possible for multiple versions of SAS installed on the same machine, we recommend uninstalling older versions of SAS first before proceeding with this new installation. Uninstallation of SAS 9.2 (all Phases) requires following of a certain order. The instructions can be found on page 10.

3. It is recommended that you have the latest Service Pack for your Operating System (i.e. SP3 for XP, SP2 for Vista) installed before you continue with SAS 9.2 setup.

4. Turn off System Standby or Hibernation mode features. You can reset these features after the setup.

5. If using laptop, please use the AC Adapter. SAS setup can take a while to finish. 6. You can turn off any Anti-Virus program during the SAS installation process. However, make

sure to turn back your Anti-Virus program at the end of the installation.

Main Setup Process Insert the SAS installation DVD. If the SAS Deployment Wizard does not start automatically, double click on the DVD drive (D: in this example) and the wizard should start.

For the language, you must select English. Click OK.

Choose Install SAS software and click on Next >.

Provide a path for SAS installation files or you can keep the default path (C:\Program Files\SAS). Please note that all future SAS installation will use this path. Click Next >.

By default, the original SID file will be shown with an expiration date.

By default, SAS will try to install for multiple languages. The installation DVD you received contains setup files for the English language only. So, you must click on Clear All to deselect all non-English languages. The required components will then be grayed out and cannot be changed. Click Next >.

Choose the Use the recommended Java Runtime Environment option and click on Next >.

Click on Start to initiate the System Requirements Wizard. Click Next >.

Depending on your Windows XP/Vista/7 installation, you may see additional requirements. Click Next >. Click Finish when the System Update finishes.

Setup will now continue to install the main SAS program and its components.

Setup is in progress and it may take a while. Click Next > when all the components have been installed.

Check Do Not Send button and click on Next>. Click Finish to end the setup process. SAS has been successfully installed on your computer.

You can now run SAS by going to Start -> Programs -> SAS and then clicking on the SAS 9.2 (English) shortcut. When the Getting Started with SAS dialog box is presented, check the option Don’t show this dialog box again and click on Close.

Renew Yearly License SAS License must be purchased and renewed every year around May if you would like to continue using this product. Please contact SOPH MITS to renew the license. When payment is confirmed, MITS will most likely give you a new license file (SID), which is valid for another year. If a new version of SAS is available, MITS will give you new installation media. To renew SAS license, go to Start -> Programs -> SAS -> SAS 9.2 License Renewal & Utilities and click on Renew SAS Software.

Browse to the location where you saved the new SAS license (in .txt format). Click Next>.

Check the expiration date (it should be next year). Click OK.

If you have installed SAS on any folder other than the default folder, browse to that folder. Click Renew.

SAS should prompt you that the license file (setinit) was successfully applied. Click OK.

Uninstalling SAS 9.2 Phase 1 and 2 SAS 9.2 Phase 1 and 2 must be uninstalled in the correct order. To uninstall SAS 9.2, please follow the instructions below. I have not found a single command to uninstall all of the installed components at the same time. The process involves uninstalling each component individually.

Part 1 – Uninstall most the components First, uninstall these components from Add or Remove Programs:

- SAS 9.2 - SAS Drivers for ODBC - SAS Formats Library for Teradata 9.2 - SAS Online Doc 9.2 for Windows - SAS Power and Sample Size 3.1 - SAS Simulation Studio 1.2 - SAS SQL Library for C 9.2 - SAS Stat Studio 3.1 - SAS Universal Viewer 1.0 - SAS XML Mapper 9.2 - SAS/Graph NV Workshop 2.1 - SAS/Graph ODS Graphics Editor 9.2

Do not attempt to uninstall SAS VJR at this point. SAS VJR has a dependent program called SAS Report Fonts for Clients, which must be removed first. SAS VJR must be the last component to be removed.

Part 2 – Uninstall SAS Report Fonts for Clients Browse to the SAS installation folder, which is typically at C:\Program Files\SAS. Go to the C:\Program Files\SAS\ReportFontsforClient\9.2\_uninstTTFONTS\ folder and double click on the UninstTTFONTS.exe file. Follow the wizard to complete the removal of this component.

Part 3 – Uninstall SAS VJR Go back to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall this last component

- SAS VJR

Part 4 – Clean up the installation folder, if necessary This should remove most of the installed SAS files from your system. If no other version of SAS is installed, we highly recommend that you rename the SAS installation folder (i.e. from C:\Program Files\SAS to C:\Program Files\SAS2) before attempting to install other version of SAS (i.e. SAS 9.2 Phase 3).
