Hundreds of high school students from across southern Ontario and Michigan are hoping to turn their science skills into careers at some of the world's top engineering firms. "It gives these teams an opportunity to learn better," Maria Arshad, the organizer of First Robotics Canada says, "get outside of the classroom and build some of their skills." It was a little bit science and a whole lot of fun as students built basketball playing robots. Oakville Trafalgar High School student Andrew George says "First we get our challenge and we hold a brainstorming session with our entire team. And we see what we want to accomplish in this game." The goal is simple. Each team has to score baskets using the robots and forces the students to sharpen their classroom skills. The First Robotics Competition offers $14 million in scholarships from universities around the world including the University of Waterloo. Student robots take aim at a competition in WaterlooCTV Southwestern Ontario

Robotic competition in Waterloo

Creativity was on display at the University of Waterloo Saturday.

Hundreds of high school students from across southern Ontario and Michigan are hoping to turn theirscience skills into careers at some of the world's top engineering firms.
