Do you enjoy learning new things? So do your residents. This session will give you some simple steps to developing a series of Leisure Learning Activities to use with your residents. It will also review the basic learning styles and how those can be used to engage your residents not only in the leisure learning series activities but also in other activities as well. By creating a Leisure Learning Series that you can use in your facility, you will provide engaging learning opportunities for your residents. A Leisure Learning Series can also be used as a marketing tool. These sessions offer a great opportunity to invite the community in for an educational session. The session will provide session ideas and resources to help you make the most program or a renovated program.

Learn about how the multi-sensory room experience can increase communication, functionality, and well-being for residents with dementia from departments. Assessment protocols, therapeutic intervention, maintenance programming, and case studies will be explored. Different modalities and examples of room equipment will be addressed.

Attendees of this session will be able to describe how liberating residents from restrictive diets brings greater health and quality of life without harm. You will also learn how to use principles and tools in the CMS Hand in Hand Toolkit to educate your staff and volunteers in person centered interactions. Attendees will be able to name the key features of care planning to honor choices seen posing some degree of risk. You will also be able to understand the national antipsychotic drug reduction project and how person centered interactions can alleviate resident reactions that caused them to receive these dangerous drugs.
