Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, People of Our Lady, Mother of the Church Parish,

Jesus’s disciples came back to Jerusalem. We are there as well in the Upper Room with the Eleven, and with Mary, vigilant in prayer for the Consoler, the Advocate, the Spirit of Truth. The Upper Room reminds us about the first Eucharist celebrated by Jesus. Eu-charist builds up the Church; Eucharist is our Communion with God, as well as with sisters and brothers gathered around the altar. The Last Supper was not the last step to establish the Church by Jesus Christ. He commanded us to “do it in memory of Him”, and on the Day of Pentecost He gave us the power, the ability, the understanding to tru-ly be His disciples in words, and in actions.

Many times we live our faith through contemplation and action. We need to both contemplate and remember at Eucharistic celebrations and to give testimony to the world in the power of Holy Spirit by what we do and what we proclaim. Today is the day when disciples filled with the Holy Spirit, began to proclaim the Good News about the Resurrection. The Church was born on this day. We are the Church when we pass the Good News to the world, not when we secure doors in the fear of persecution. On the day of Pentecost the Church was born, and Mother was there, yes, Mother of the Church. Even in our liturgical calendar there is no feast for Mother of the Church, today at the birth of the Church, it is a proper day to honor her as well. She is a model of contemplation and of action, of accepting the One who comes in the power of the Holy Spirit, and of hastening to take care with love. This Sunday at the 11 o’clock Mass we give thanks, with our Confirmandi, for the gift of the Holy Spirit they received. In two weeks, at the 5 o’clock Mass, on the Vigil of Corpus Christi, we will commission Ministers of Care who bring Holy Communion to the sick, to the homebound, and to those in hospitals and nursing homes. Also, on Corpus Christi Sunday, June 18th there will be a Eucharistic Procession to four stations around the church following the 11 o’clock Mass. May God bless you! Fr. Andrew

Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement

We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and

workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

To learn how to rise up out of your chair and donate, contact Fr. Andrew or the Diocesan

Office of Stewardship & Development at 312-534-7615.

Five Finger Prayer Using the fingers on your hand, start with the thumb and pray these intentions in this order: 1.) The thumb is closest finger to you. So start praying for those who are closest to you. They are the persons easiest to re-member. To pray for our dear ones is a "Sweet Obligation." 2.) The next finger is the index. Pray for those who teach you, instruct you and heal you. They need the support and wis-dom to show direction to others. Always keep them in your prayers. 3.) The following finger is the tallest. It reminds us of our leaders, the governors and those who have authority. They need God's guidance. 4.) The fourth finger is the ring finger. Even though it may surprise you, it is our weakest finger. It should remind us to pray for the weakest, the sick or those plagued by problems. They need your prayers. 5.) And finally we have our smallest fin-ger, the smallest of all. Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. When you are done praying for the other four groups, you will be able to see your own needs but in the proper perspective, and also you will be able to pray for your own needs in a better way.

A stroke occurs when a vessel in the brain ruptures or is blocked by a clot. (Ischemic-blocked; Hemorrhagic-ruptures) Fifth cause of death in the US. Women have a greater risk of stroke than men.
