Vestry candidate forms due Oct. 16; election Nov. 2 & 3On Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3, the Parish will vote to elect four members to serve three-year terms—from 2020 through 2022—on the St. Andrew’s Vestry. In addition, we’ll elect one person to serve through 2021, filling the unexpired term of the late Christie Carter, who died unexpectedly last December.

Vestry’s overall responsibilities include visioning, overseeing the direction of the Parish, and promoting our purpose and mission. They meet monthly on the third Monday evening.

If you’re interested in serving our parish on Vestry please speak with a current Vestry member about what’s involved, or talk with Fr. Ron. Vestry names and contact information are listed on the Member Connection of our website, standrewspolaris.org, and on the wall just inside the Gathering Area to the right.

Vestry candidate forms are available at the Information Desk in the Narthex and can also be downloaded from the main page of our website, standrewspolaris.org. Candidate forms must be completed and returned to the parish office no later than Wednesday, Oct. 16. This will allow the forms to be prepared and made available to the parish on Sunday, Oct. 20, which is two weeks prior to the election, as our bylaws require.

The first Sunday in November is also Pledge Sunday, when we’ll lift up to God our pledges to the 2020 General Fund. Watch for stewardship materials in mid-October.

Prayers for the ChurchAnglican Church in North America: Brad Root, Provincial Office treasurer, and his wife Holly; and the Rev. Kirk Patterson, Provincial Office controller, and his wife Tricia.Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes: The people of St. George Anglican Church, Muncie, Indiana. Parish Cycle of Prayer: Ted and Daphne Spradling and Madison Martin; Bill and Debbie Sterling; our High School Youth Bible Study; and the Harvest Festival coming up next Saturday.

Encouragement for your prayer time with GodGiving God thanks should be in our prayers as much as asking him for something. “We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you …” (Colossians 1:3) “Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” (Psalm 106:1) — From the St. Andrew’s Prayer Ministries Team

his wife Melinda worshiped with us on a number of occasions when they visited family in Central Ohio.

In addition to his role in our diocese, Bishop Beckwith served throughout the Midwest, including as rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Worthington, from 1978 to 1992, and as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield, Illinois, from 1992 to 2010. He was also a chaplain in the U.S. Navy, and at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan.

We’ll let you know by email when we have details about the funeral service, which will be at Hillsdale.

Please keep Melinda and the Beckwith family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of their beloved husband, father and grandfather. And pray also for Bishop Peter as he enters his new life in the nearer presence our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he served so well. May his soul and the souls of all the saints rest in God’s peace, and may light perpetual shine upon him.

Holy Land pilgrimage presentation todayIf you want to know more about the Holy Land pilgrimage that Fr. Ron and 12 others went on this past summer, please join us for a slide presentation and insights from our pilgrims during the Sunday Forum today, Oct. 6, from 10:15 to 11 a.m.

Anti-trafficking efforts topic of Oct. 13 ForumPrompted by several members of St. Andrew’s, our parish’s Outreach Committee has been exploring how we might join the fight against human trafficking. On Sept. 26 we took the first step when Marty Scott, our outreach ministries coordinator, and Karen Osmond, a member of our Vestry, attended the annual dinner of “Out of Darkness.”

“Out of Darkness.” is an anti-trafficking outreach and rescue organization in Columbus that provides immediate short-term crisis stabilization and hope through God, to transition exploited adult women into long-term recovery programs.

Jami Gray, the group’s community development director, will share with us about its mission during the Adult Forum next Sunday, Oct. 13, from 10:15 to 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Please come and learn more about the vital work “Out of Darkness” is doing, and how we might help.

Please contact Marty at [email protected] or 614-284-0182 with questions or for more information.

Harvest Festival ScheduleWe still have a lot of open spots to fill, and are especially in need of adults to monitor the inflatables in the children’s area. If you can help, please sign up today at the the Information Desk, or online through SignUp Genius by visiting standrewspolaris.org.

“Trades of Hope,” which works with artisans and organizations around the world to help provide a brighter future for women in difficult circumstances, will have a vendor table at the Harvest Festival on Oct. 12.

So many women around the world live in poverty, not because they lack abilities, but because they lack opportunity. These women have never had the chances we have had, yet they are just like us in so many ways. They love their families, and hope and dream of a better life for them.

“Trades of Hope” helps create a living wage for women around the world by marketing products they have created through the home party model. Each woman behind a “Trades of Hope” product has a story; a story that has changed from pain and struggle to an account of hope,

as they’ve been empowered to put food on their family’s table, a roof over their head, get medical care, and provide an education for their children.

With a heart for ministry and business, “Trades of Hope” has started separate successful non-profit organizations and businesses. They partner with organizations that work to rescue women from sex slavery, and provide aid to those raising handicapped children alone, women in war-torn countries, others living with AIDS, and those affected by other difficulties.

Please stop by “Trades of Hope” and give Nicole a warm St. Andrew’s welcome as she shares the hope of women from around the world. For more information, please contact Marty Scott at 614-284-0182.
