• Satya Bharti School Program• Flagship program of Bharti Foundation.• It aims to deliver free quality education to underprivileged children, with special focus on the girl child across rural India.• Goal to establish 500 Primary and 50 Senior Schools reaching out to over 200,000 students
• Present Operational Status• Number of Schools Operational:250• States of Operation: Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu & West Bengal • Number of Students Enrolled: Over 36,000
About the Community
Geographical Location:
•Mori village is situated near Kanina 18 K.M. from district
Mahendergarh.
•Sandy soil.Socio- Economic Background:
• Major casts are : Ahir, Chamar, Kumhar, etc.
• Dominating castes : Chamar
•Main source of earning is agriculture, animal husbandry, labor, etc.
Population : 1275, Literacy Rate: 36%
We ‘Feel’:
The child marriage is a common tradation in Mori village. The dominant caste is chamar . 45 % parents have more than three children. Due to poverty, they are unable to provide them better opportunities to develop. They are not aware about their responsibility. They think that they have to marriage them and hand over their duty. In last one year , 5 child marriage were organized in the village. As a result , children can not develop themselves and they have to take extra responsibility before time. Two person tried to commit suicide due to this problem.
After over all discussion in school, we met the sarpanch and shared our concern. Initially he was not convinced but when all the planning was shared ,he assured us to help us at every step. A meeting of community members was organized.
Going out:
We ‘Imagined’
All the community members will understand their responsibility, aware about the harms of child marriage. Child marriage will be stopped. Every child will get proper opportunities for holistic development. The mentor teacher planned the following activities:Rally to aware people.•Role Play•Counseling•Slogan on walls
We ‘Did’
A rally was organized with the posters showing the harms of child marriage.
Community meeting to counsel members .
A water storage tank was not in use for some time, we discussed with community and it was replaced in common dustbin .
We ‘Did’
Impact on Community:Community members realized t their responsibilities or accountability for their children. All the members took an oath to marriage their children at proper age. The sarpanch appreciate the students very much.
Impact on “Us”
•Students felt leadership quality .
•Students start initiating on “awareness of social evil” in the
community.
•Students realized their role in society.
The Road Ahead…..(in the next 3 months)
•Regular follow up for the program.
•Slogan writing on common places of the village.
•Two persons were assigned duty by panchyat to keep the drains clean.•Our school will be role modal for health & hygiene for community.
