Elephants adapt to their environment because they use their trunks to drink water. They also have big ears to fan with to keep cool
Cheetahs adapt to their environment because they are the fastest animals on this planet. Their also
camouflaged to hide while hunting the prey.
Ostriches have very good eyesight. Their heads can be turned into any direction. Their long legs
enable them to deliver powerful kicks to their predators.
The Baobab is a slick and shiny tree to reflect light and heat, keeping it cool in the intense savanna sun. The slippery skin is also useful in keeping
elephants and other small herbivores from climbing it.
Eucalypts trees are adapted to survive frequent fires by having a la root system to both find water
and store a good amount of food.
Acacia trees adapt because of their waxy small leaves that resist loosing moisture
and large thorns for protection.
The climate is often warm, it ranges from 20 to 30ºC. The monsoon rains start at May. An average of 25 to 75 cm of rain falls throughout this time. It also gets hot and humid during the rainy season.
The savanna's dry season affects the animals and plants living there because the mud can get really deep into the ground where they can get stuck in
because it acts as quicksand.
Humans affect the savannas by:
- Grazing, which is taking your livestock such as cattle and sheep to a grassland to feed them.
- Fruit and seed collection, which is humans going into the savanna to collect fruits and seeds and this interferes with the cycle of the fruit and plant growth also leaving few foods for
animals.
People living close to savannas practice the activities because they need to feed their livestock in the grasslands there and also collect fruits and seeds to eat/sell them.
I think that these activities are bad because when they take the livestock to graze, the animals eat all the grass and ruin floor causing soil erosion(over grazing). Also by collecting fruit and seeds there will be a smaller amount of fruit and the animals/people wont have fruits to eat.
To prevent over grazing and fruit/seed collecting, people should be educated about the bad affects of over grazing/fruit or seed collecting and how it ruins the savanna so that they would know how to prevent it.
