Prepared for Transformation - Michael McQueen

Every sector today is facing a perfect storm of disruption and upheaval. In the face of the changes ahead, agility

and adaptability will be more important than ever. The future success and survival of your organisation will rest on the ability to anticipate, prepare for and pre-empt disruption. In this fast-paced and compelling presentation, discover:

• The 4 forms that disruption will take in the coming decade

• The key technology trends that will shape the future including AI, robotics and business automation

• The common culture and mindset traps that will set any organisation on a collision course with obsolescence – and how to avoid them

• Proven and practical strategies for staying one step ahead of change

Michael McQueen understands what it takes

to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. Widely

recognised for having his finger on the pulse of

business and culture, he has helped some of the

world’s best-known brands navigate change and

stay ahead of the curve.

Michael has written six bestselling books,

including his latest book, “Preparing Now

for What’s Next”, and features regularly as a

commentator on TV and radio.

Michael is a familiar face on the international

conference circuit having shared the stage with

co-founder, Steve Wozniak. He has spoken to

over 500,000 people across 5 continents and

is known for his high-impact, research-rich and

entertaining conference presentations.

Michael’s upcoming book “Teaching for

Tomorrow” identifies the key trends that will

shape the world of tomorrow, while providing a

blueprint for ensuring our schools, students and

educational systems are fit for the future.

Transition from the Noise - Chris Helder This session addresses the Noise

that we are all inundated with

every day. With everything from

media, social media, endless

emails and countless meetings, it can feel like fifty

thousand things hitting us from every direction.

In business today, it is more important than ever

to identify what gets results and what is simply a

waste of time. This compelling keynote will have

an immediate impact on your ability to focus

and prioritise for greater success. Delegates will

explore these new techniques:

• Accelerated Focus – technique to increase

concentration and demonstrate how to

achieve more in less time

• Circles of Importance – technique for

prioritisation, simplification and eliminating

distraction

• 10 Seconds of Guilt…Move On – technique to

manage internal negativity and increase

individual production

Chris Helder is a business communication genius

and master storyteller whose presentations

have radically transformed how thousands

of people worldwide communicate. He has

been a professional speaker for 16 years and

has done over 2,000 presentations around the

world. He is a certified practitioner of Neuro-

Linguistic Programming specialising in advanced

communication and behavioural modelling.

Given that we are now living in an age where

digital communication often compromises our

powers of persuasion, our need to engage in

effective face-to-face communication has never

been more important. Chris teaches how to

choose the right communication technique for any

situation, so when you speak, you know people are

listening!

He is the author of bestselling books “The Ultimate

Book of Influence” which has been published in

five languages, “Useful Belief”, which is one of the

highest selling Australian business books of all

time and his latest, “Cut the Noise”.

CEO Panel

The CEO Panel is a regular feature of the Annual Conference, allowing delegates to hear from a panel of CEOs about current challenge, distractions and satisfactions as well as pending changes. This year, the CEOs will focus on the change agenda – what is it that they anticipate shifting in their organisations in coming years, what does this mean for officers, what new or different skills will be required and what can we do to prepare?

The Millennial Panel

The organisations senior local government officers are building today are not going to be enjoyed by the current senior staff but by those coming up through the ranks. What do these millennials see as important and what do they want their organisations to look like, for themselves and for the communities they serve?

Flipping the traditional panel on its head, hear from the younger people in the organisation, ask questions and glean insight into what transitions will, or should, happen.

ProgrammeTRANSFORMATIONS

As the rate of change facing communities and organisations increases, the ability to transform effectively and efficiently becomes a critical

enterprise skill. For Queensland local governments, change is occurring simultaneously in multiple areas of our business and the

communities we serve. Disruptive technologies and social demands all contribute to an expected future which is vastly different to

what could have been envisaged as little as a decade ago.

The 2019 Local Government Conference explores some of these futures and various transformational approaches to

meet new demands. Join colleagues to discuss successes and challenges for future focus as we move beyond 2020.

OpenGov – Transforming Data

OpenGov was founded in 2012 by Zac Bookman, Joe Lonsdale and technologists from Stanford University, who studied government budgeting in the aftermath of the GFC. They observed dedicated public servants struggle against outdated technology that prevented them from accessing timely financial information and communicating their priorities to citizens and elected officials. Believing there was a better way, the team set out to build a cloud-based solution to power more effective and accountable government. Today, OpenGov is providing public service agencies (local and state) across the world with the network and data to achieve better budgeting, performance, communications, reporting and open data that ultimately result in better outcomes for the public.

Learn about what OpenGov can do and how it is being rolled out in Australian local government.

Welcoming Cities – Transitioning Communities

Welcoming Cities is a national network of cities, shires, towns and municipalities who are committed to an Australia where everyone can belong and participate in social, cultural, economic and civic life. The network is also part of a growing international movement of more than 135 municipalities in New Zealand, the Americas and Europe.

Welcoming Cities recognises that, of all tiers of government, councils are best placed to understand the complexity and diversity of their communities. However, they often engage in this work with limited resources and support. Members of Welcoming Cities have unprecedented access to a community of like-minded local governments and community stakeholders through; knowledge sharing, partnership development, celebrating success, standards and accreditation.

Learn more about Welcoming Cities and its impacts in Queensland communities.

Transforming Engagement Measures - Geoff Woolcock

As the divide between citizen views and expectations and policy directions widens, progressive countries are moving to develop broader models of societal progress, making equity and sustainable wellbeing core goals. Many of these models are firmly anchored in a process of citizen engagement and democratic renewal, characteristics still most evident in Australian citizen’s engagement with local government. Geoff will speak about contemporary work with Queensland local governments to incorporate some of this wellbeing thinking into the ‘measures that matter’ for local government.

The Future of Work

Everyone is aware of the touted changes to the future of work: AI, virtual offices, gig-economy etc. But what are the real timelines and what do we need to do today to prepare for the future we will meet tomorrow? This session focuses on key trends and their application in the Queensland environment.

Outlook for Queensland: transforming regions, towns and cities

Economic performance drives community sustainability. In this economic update, consider the different factors impacting across Queensland cities, towns and regions. What will be the drivers of future growth or retraction and what can, or should, be done to alter the trajectory?

The Case Studies – hear from Queensland councils and suppliers about some of the novel and successful projects being undertaken around the state.
