The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is the largest Dog Training Programme inthe UK and encourages dog owners to recognise the responsibilities they have in owninga dog. To date, over 1800 training organisations participate in the Scheme, which in turnhas produced over 600,000 proud recipients of the Good Citizen Dog Scheme Awards.

The Scheme incorporates all aspects of domestic dog owning situations including general health care,grooming, basic obedience and control exercises. Whether you have a domestic pet dog or a show winner, awell-behaved dog is of primary importance.

Bronze Award testing sessions will be held throughout the day, so come along to the ring when you have aspare moment and take part. No need to pre-book. Your dog will need to be microchipped to take part.Remember to bring with you a poop scoop bag, your dog's grooming equipment and ensure your dog iswearing a collar and lead with the name and address of the owner written on it. A fee of £2.00 per dog will berequired to take part.

There is also an Any Variety Good Citizen Dog Scheme Stakes class held each day and open to all GCDSBronze Achievers (as of show closing date). Prize Money 1st £40, 2nd £20, 3rd £15, 4th £10 5th £5.

YKC Handling Training with Charlotte Page and Kyle Adams

The YKC will be hosting YKC Handling training that will take place during Saturday12th May and Sunday 13th May 2018 at the Birmingham National Dog Show.The training will be open to all members aged 6-24 years and the sessions will besplit into advanced members and members who are less experienced. Training forone full day will cost £20.This is a training event and will take place in the pavilion on the showground which isindoors. Charlotte Page and Kyle Adams are both senior YKC members who haveenjoyed great success in the YKC handling and YKC Stakes classes. IMPORTANT NOTICESALTERATION TO SCHEDULE

In addition to being advertised in the weekly dog press, wherever possible, any alteration to this schedule(including any change of judge) will be included on the Society’s website:www.nationaldogshowbirmingham.org.uk and Higham Press website: www.highampress.co.uk. Pleasemake regular checks.

PARKING FACILITIES FOR DISABLED EXHIBITORS AND VISITORSA forward parking area will be allocated in each car park for the use of disabled exhibitors and visitors. Vehiclesdisplaying the official parking disc will be directed by the car parking staff on the day.

CARAVANS/MOTORHOMES£40 pre-booked (for the duration of the show); £50 if paid on site (for the duration of the show). Space on thecaravan site is limited and early booking is advised. Caravans will be parked in a separate eight-acre fieldadjacent to the showground and linked by a tarmac footpath. Facilities include a toilet block (including disabled),shower block (in main building and accessible 24 hours), chemical disposal point and a fire point. A woodlandsite is available for exercising dogs on the strict understanding that dogs are kept on a lead at all times and anyfouling is removed immediately, as this is a picnic area. Caravans will only be allowed on the site from 10.00am on Tuesday 8th May and must be removed by 12 noon on Monday 14th May 2018.Please note that each caravan will be allocated a space of 10 metres in width. All equipment, including awning,windbreaks etc. must be contained within the allocated space and individual units must not be linked. Althoughthere is no extra charge for Caravans/Motorhomes over 10 metres in length it is essential to specify alarger pitch is required as spaces for these vehicles are limited. All arrivals should report to the Society’sappointed warden(s) who are in control of the site and anyone not complying with his/her instructions will beasked to leave the site. NB. This is a temporary caravan site more suited to self-contained units.MOTORHOMES/CARAVANS MUST NOT BE PARKED OVERNIGHT IN THE CAR PARK. All caravansmust carry a fire extinguisher.

NO UNENTERED DOG TENTAn unentered dog tent will NOT be provided at the 2018 Show.

SPECTATOR DOGSSpectator Dogs from 4 months of age may be brought into the show. On arrival please report to theCatalogue table in the morning or Secretary’s Office in the afternoon. A brief form must be completedand a fee of £5 paid.Passes will be issued for Spectator Dogs as all passes will be checked on leaving the show ground. Nodog will be checked out of the showground without an appropriate pass.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO RIGHTSThe Organisers would like to bring the regulation on photography and filming to the attention of exhibitors, tradestands, press and visitors. It is a condition of all those attending the event that no filming or other form ofrecording may be taken or made at the venue without express written permission of the Organisers. The takingof photographs in the show venue for sale or reward is strictly prohibited except with the written permission ofthe Organisers. Press accredited photographers are provided with permission to take photographs ONLY foruse in newspapers, magazines and internet sites – this is for news purposes only. There is no objection to thegeneral public taking photographs of general views of the show, provided that these are for private use. Specificdogs may be photographed only with the approval of the exhibitor. No photography or filming is permitted inbreed judging rings whilst judging is actually taking place. However, judges may allow it to happen at the end ofclasses or after the Challenge Certificate is awarded. Filming and flash photography is allowed from outside thering at all times unless the operation of the camera is actually affecting exhibits. However, if a powerful flash unitis used or it is clear that exhibits are being affected, a ring steward or the judge is empowered to stop the personconcerned.

FOULINGAny owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove immediately any foulingcaused by their dog(s), and/or any grooming waste, at any Kennel Club Show within the licensed venueand within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches. Adequate receptaclesfor the disposal of such fouling/grooming waste will be provided by the Society. It is not acceptable to “pick up”after your dog and then leave the bag underneath your vehicle for others to collect at the end of the day.

EYE TESTING SESSIONSMr John Goodyear, BVMS, CertVOpthal, MRCVS will once again be holding eye testing sessions under theBVA/KC/ISDS scheme from 10.00am - 4.00pm each day. No appointment necessary. Please remember tobring along the dog’s KC registration form.

UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOURRegrettably the Society has been receiving an increasing number of reports of verbal/physical assaults onsecurity staff, particularly when collecting Removal Orders at the main gate. Exhibitors are advised that thisbehaviour is not acceptable and that it is the intention of the Society to refuse further entries where it is possibleto positively identify the perpetrators of such anti-social behaviour. Please remember that any official personnelon the showground are carrying out their duties as per instructions issued by the Management Committee ofBirmingham Dog Show Society Ltd.You are reminded that Removal Orders MUST be produced when leaving the showground for ALL dogsin your vehicle. Passes will be issued for Spectator Dogs entered at the show.

GANGWAYSGangways must be kept clear at all times. Any obstructions including dog boxes left in gangways will beremoved by the Show Management.

USE OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AT SHOWSElectrical equipment should not be brought to shows unless absolutely necessary. In rare instances where itmight be required, it should be PAT tested and permission sought from the Show Secretary before it is used.

Exhibitors are held responsible for any damage done by their dog during the exhibition.

4 a. Exhibits may be removed from the show after their judging has been completed.b. Exhibits may not be removed any earlier unless by written order of the Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary

Practitioner, or of the Show Management and then only in very exceptional and unforeseen circumstanceswhich must be reported to the Kennel Club.

c. The Show will close half an hour after all judging has been completed by which time dogs must be removed.5 The use of cooking stoves in the proximity of tenting and benching areas is forbidden except as authorised by the

Show Management.6 Entry fees: Breeds with CCs on offer — 1st entry £26. Breeds without CCs on offer, AV Imported Register, Stakes

FIRST ENTRY FEES INCREASE BY £2 DURING THE EXTENDED ONLINE PERIOD FROM17th MARCH. ENTRY FEES WILL NOT BE REFUNDED ONCE AN ENTRY IS MADE. ANY REFUND FORDUPLICATE ENTRIES OR UNDERAGE PUPPIES WILL INCUR A £5 ADMIN FEE.

7 Prize money, where paid, is detailed under the relevant Stakes Classes.8 The Committee reserves to itself the right to refuse entries.9 Puppies under six calendar months of age on the first day of the Show are not eligible for exhibition. i.e. born

after 10th November 2017.10 The mating of bitches within the precincts of the Show is forbidden.11 Best Puppy in Show. From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club Show Regulations

which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any VarietyClass/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in showcompetitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website for further information).(Definition; Shows judged on Group System - Refer to Regulation 27B.). Where a Best Puppy in Show competitionis scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppyexhibited at the same show. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the firstday of the Show. Where the Best of Breed, Best in Group or Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically beawarded Best Puppy in Breed, Best in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Similarly, if the Reserve Bestof Breed, Reserve Best of Group or Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dogit should also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively.Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed, Best in Group and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selectionof Best of Breed and Best in Show respectively.a) Championship Shows Judged on the Group System

(1) Best Puppy in Breed. A Best Puppy must be declared in each breed from puppies entered in the breedclasses.

(2) Best Puppy in Group. b) Withdrawal from Competition. Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy inShow may be withdrawn from all other competition, other than breed classes and Best Puppy in Breed, prior tothe competition for Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show as appropriate, in order to remain unbeaten.A puppy beaten in competition for Best Puppy in Group or Best Puppy in Show may subsequently be exhibitedin all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dog declared Best Puppy in Show, however, must notcompete in any subsequent competition. Puppies may be withdrawn from Any Variety Classes when judgedbefore Breed Classes.

c) Proviso. For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny,Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog.

From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club Show Regulations whichstipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any VarietyClass/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in showcompetitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website for further information).The dog declared Best in Show is a dog which has competed and is unbeaten by any other dog exhibited at thesame Show.Definition of a Category 3 Breed. A breed from time to time designated by the General Committee as requiringparticular monitoring by reason of visible condition(s) which may cause health or welfare concerns. The list ofdesignated Category 3 Breeds is kept under regular review.a) Shows Judged on the Group System. (Definition; Shows judged on the Group System includes classes for

breeds within more than one Group, as defined in Kennel Club Regulation B(A); and requires a judge todeclare a Best of each Group after which the exhibits so declared will compete for the award of Best in Showand Reserve Best in Show.)(1) Best of Breed. Where a breed is separately classified a Best of Breed may be declared but only from those

dogs which have received a first prize in a breed class at the show. Where separate classes are providedfor each sex of a breed a Best of each Sex must be declared.NOTE:The Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified award relevant to a Category 3 Breedwill not be confirmed until the dog has passed an examination by the General and Group ChampionshipShow Veterinary Surgeon.

(2) Best of Group. From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club ShowRegulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class beforeexhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible tocompete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs onthe Kennel Club Website for further information).Best of Group and subsequent Group placings must be selected from:-(a) The Best of Breed winners in each group provided that they are unbeaten winning dogs.(b) The best unbeaten winning dog from the Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each group or

on each day.NOTE:The dog declared Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified from a breeddesignated by the Kennel Club as a Category 3 Breed is not eligible to compete in the Group competitionunless it has passed an examination by the Show’s Veterinary Surgeon. If the dog fails to pass theexamination it is ineligible to compete in the relevant Group.

(3) Best in Show. From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club ShowRegulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class beforeexhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible tocompete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs onthe Kennel Club Website for further information).Best in Show must be selected from the Best of Group winners provided they are unbeaten. Reserve Bestin Show must be selected from the remaining Group winners following the selection of Best in Show.

b) Withdrawal from other Competition. Dogs which become eligible for Best of Group and Best in Show maybe withdrawn from all other competition other than breed classes and Best of Breed prior to the competition forBest of Group or Best in Show as appropriate in order to remain unbeaten. A dog beaten in competition forBest of Group or Best in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previouslyeligible. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in anysubsequent competition. Dogs may be withdrawn from Any Variety Classes when judged before Breed Classes.

c) Proviso. For the purposes of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny,Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs.

13 Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show competition after a period of ten minutes haselapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed byprevious judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management.

14 Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors shouldnote that such practice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to theCommittee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11.

15 It is not acceptable to handle a dog in a manner which causes its feet not to touch the ground when on the move.Exhibitors should note that such practices could constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will bereferred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11.

16 All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) — Regulations for the Preparation of Dogsfor Exhibition.

17 All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry tothe show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to theexhibitor/competitor.

18 DOGS IN VEHICLES ON HOT DAYS. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Cluboffers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at Kennel Clublicensed events.• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday

route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water

available to drink.• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.

• Keep the dog in the shade — take your own shade, for example a large umbrella and always have plenty ofwater available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.

• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengthsof time.

Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to direresults. Please look after your dog’s welfare.

WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK, FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BENECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED.Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure theneeds of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default,omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the GeneralCommittee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Limited Rules and Regulations Exhibitors/ Competitorsare reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulations to refuse any entry.

19 Not For Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry formand must be Kennel Club registered. Regulation F.1.c: Only dogs of six calendar months of age and over on thefirst day of the show are eligible for exhibition at Kennel Club licensed shows. However societies may accept Notfor Competition entries at their discretion and dogs aged four calendar months and over are eligible to enter Not forCompetition at all Kennel Club licensed Shows. Furthermore, dogs aged four calendar months and over areeligible to enter Match Competitions.

20 No modifications will be made to this schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club,which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible.

21 BEST VETERAN IN SHOW. From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club ShowRegulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting inan Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group orbest in show competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website forfurther information). Best Veteran in Show is a Veteran which has competed and is unbeaten by any otherVeteran exhibited at the same show.• Best Veteran in Breed will be selected from all unbeaten veterans from any breed classes provided they are not

beaten by any other veteran.• Best Veteran In Group will be selected from all Best Veteran in Breed provided they are unbeaten by any other veteran.• Best Veteran In Show will be selected from Best Veteran in Group Winners provided they are unbeaten by any

other veteran.Proviso For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Braceand Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog.NB: Veterans entered in the Bannerdown Benching/AV Veteran Stakes ONLY are not eligible to compete for BestVeteran in Show. To be eligible to compete for Best Veteran in Show, a veteran must be entered and exhibited in abreed class and win Best Veteran in Breed and Best Veteran in Group.

22 The Catalogue will contain the owners’ name in each breed in alphabetical order with their dogs in numerical order.All dogs will be benched in the catalogue order and owners’ dogs of the same breed will be benched together. Nodecorations, pictures, cards or other notices may be placed over the benches except the Official Prize Cards andexhibitors name and address as per K.C. Regulations. No bench numbers shall be changed from one pen toanother and no dog shall be benched on any but its own numbered pen. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MAYPARTITIONS BETWEEN DOGS BE REMOVED.

23 Exhibitors will receive one free pass (not transferable) for each dog entered.24 All dogs must be removed from their benches within 30 minutes of the completion of Group Judging on the first,

second and third days, and after the Best in Show Judging on the final day.25 All dogs must have a benching chain and collar. (Cages will not be provided for Toydogs).26 EXHIBITS ONLY ALLOWED. No animal other than a dog duly entered at the Show will be allowed within the

precincts of the Show during its continuance, except by prior permission of the Kennel Club.27 Should any judge be prevented from fulfilling his/her engagement, the Committee reserves to itself the right to

appoint a substitute. Exhibitors are at liberty to withdraw from competition, but no entry fees can be returned.28 Should any question arise, not provided for by these Regulations or by the Kennel Club Rules, the decision of the

Committee shall be final, subject only to appeal to the Kennel Club.29 Every exhibitor shall ensure that whilst the dog is being exhibited, its handler shall display the correct ring number.30 The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times

ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car andcaravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue),during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event).

31 CANCELLATION OR ABANDONMENT. Entry fees will not be refunded in any circumstances where any Act ofGod or any other unforeseen reason causes the cancellation or abandonment of the show after entries haveclosed.

DEFINITIONS OF CLASSESN.B.—The word “dog” includes both sexes

In the following Definitions, a Challenge Certificate includes any Show award that counts towards the title ofChampion under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club. Wins at Championship Shows in breedclasses where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted as wins at Open Shows. In the case of a dog ownedin partnership and entered in Member’s classes or competing for Member’s Specials, each partner must at the time ofentry be a member of the society. In estimating the number of awards won, all wins up to and including the seventh daybefore the date of closing of Postal entries shall be counted when entering for any class i.e. 9th March 2018. Wins in

Variety Classes do not count for entry in Breed Classes, but when entering for Variety Classes, wins in both Breed andVariety Classes must be counted. A First Prize does not include a Special Prize of whatever value. A dog is not eligiblefor entry in Variety Classes unless also entered and subsequently exhibited in a Breed Class where such a class isprovided for which it is eligible.

Exemptions from this Regulation are:From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that

dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class havebeen suspended.(1) A Puppy, unless a class for dogs under twelve months of age for which it is eligible is provided for the breed.(2) A dog in Any Variety Veteran Class.(3) A dog in Any Variety Champion Class.(4) A dog which is withdrawn from exhibition in breed classes as a result of the appointment of an emergency judge.(5) A dog in The Young Kennel Club Stakes Classes.(6) A dog in Good Citizen Scheme Classes.(7) Exhibits bred by the scheduled breed Judge.

If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class or classes that a dog has been entered which is ineligible, theexhibitor may choose one of the following options:

1) WithdrawalThe dog may be withdrawn from competition subject to the conditions of Regulations 9(j) and 20.2) Transfer

(a) If a dog is ineligible for a class or classes as regards its breed, colour, sex, weight or height, the ShowSecretary shall transfer it to the equivalent class or classes for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight orheight, or in the event of there being no equivalent class, Minor Puppy and Puppy excepted, to the Openclass for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height.

(b) For an exhibit entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy Class, Puppy Class or Junior Class, which is over agebut under 12 calendar months of age, 18 calendar months of age or 24 calendar months of agerespectively, the Show Secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Puppy Class, Junior Class or YearlingClass respectively for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height and in the event of there being noPuppy, Junior or Yearling Class, to the Open Class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height.

(c) For any reason other than the above, the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the Open Class for thecorrect breed, colour, sex, weight or height.

(d) If an exhibit arrives late and misses a class, even if it is the only class in which the dog is entered, the dogmay not be transferred to any other class.

MINOR PUPPY—For dogs of six and not exceeding nine calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.PUPPY—For dogs of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.JUNIOR—For dogs of six and not exceeding eighteen calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.YEARLING—For dogs of twelve and not exceeding twenty four calendar months of age on the first day of the show.MAIDEN—For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or a First Prize at an Open or Championship Show

(Minor Puppy, Special Minor Puppy, Puppy and Special Puppy Classes excepted, whether restricted or not).NOVICE—For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or three or more First Prizes at Open or Championship

Shows (Minor Puppy, Special Minor Puppy, Puppy and Special Puppy classes excepted, whether restricted or not).GRADUATE—For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or four or more First Prizes at Championship

Shows in Graduate, Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open classes, whether restricted or not,where Challenge Certificates were offered for the Breed.

POST GRADUATE—For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or five or more First Prizes at ChampionshipShows in Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open classes, whether restricted or not, whereChallenge Certificates were offered for the Breed.

MID LIMIT—For dogs which have not become Show Champions under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules ofany governing body recognised by the Kennel Club, or won three or more CC/CACIB/CAC/Green Stars or wonfive or more First Prizes in all at Championship Shows in Mid Limit, Limit or Open Classes, confined to the breed,whether restricted or not, where Challenge Certificates were offered for the Breed.

LIMIT—For dogs which have not become Show Champions under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of anygoverning body recognised by the Kennel Club, or won three or more CC/CACIB/CAC/Green Stars or won sevenor more First Prizes in all, at Championship Shows in Limit or Open Classes, confined to the Breed, whetherrestricted or not, at Shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the Breed.

OPEN—For all dogs of the breeds for which the class is provided and eligible for entry at the Show.VETERAN—For dogs of not less than seven years of age on the first day of the Show.CHAMPION—For dogs which have been confirmed a Champion, Show Champion or Field Trial Champion. Champion

classes may not be scheduled for individual breeds or varieties of breeds.SPECIAL BEGINNERS—For owner, handler or exhibit not having won a Challenge Certificate.IMPORTED REGISTER—For breeds confined to the Imported Register, and only when an Interim Breed Standard has

been published by The Kennel Club. Such breeds may be exhibited in this class only, and are ineligible for anyother competition whatsoever.

NOT FOR COMPETITION—Societies may at their discretion, accept Not For Competition entries. Societies may acceptsuch entries from breeds of dog not included within the title of the Society and at Shows held over more than one day,such entries may be accepted on any day from any breed.

YKC STAKES— Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entryinto a YKC qualifying stakes class. Dogs must be on the Kennel Club Breed Register to compete in a YKC stakescompetition. The first placed member only in each dog group at the qualifying show will qualify for Crufts. A rosettewill be awarded. If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down to the next placing. All pedigreedogs are eligible to take part provided the dog is registered on the Kennel Club Breed Register. The dog must be

registered a) solely or jointly in the member’s name or b) in the name of a close member of the family (i.e. a groupof people related by blood or by marriage) and under these circumstances the dog must be resident at the YKCmember’s address. No substitute handlers are permitted — the dog must be handled by the registered YKCmember. Members are not permitted to allow another individual to show their dog at the qualifier on their behalf ifthey are not able to attend the class, unless agreed by the YKC Office prior to the show. Members must be aged 6- 24 years (members 6 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please note that membership of the YKCterminates on a member’s 25th birthday. Therefore if a member is aged 25 years or over by the first day of Cruftsthey will be unable to compete in any YKC class. Please keep this in mind when entering qualifiers throughout thecompeting year. In order to enter any YKC competition you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry andcompetition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any awardwill be forfeited Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish toparticipate in YKC competitions.

YKC HANDLING CLASSES—Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition areeligible for entry into a YKC qualifying class. The FIRST placed handler only in each age group at the qualifyingshow will qualify for Crufts. A rosette is awarded to the winner. Handling qualfiers run from the 1st January to the31st December for the following year’s Crufts. If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down tothe next placing. Classes for handling are decided by the handler’s age. The classes are divided into three agegroups: 6-11 years (6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday). 12-16 years (12 years and up to, but notincluding 17th birthday). 17-24 years (17 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). In order to enter anyYKC competition, you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Cruftsqualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited. Therefore it isimportant to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish to participate in YKC competitions.

KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME CLASS—For dogs which have obtained their Good Citizen Bronzeaward or above.

REGULATIONS FOR THE PREPARATION OF DOGS FOR EXHIBITIONF (B)

1 These Regulations must be observed when a dog is prepared for exhibition and/or exhibited at any Kennel ClubLicensed event. Objections may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under these ShowRegulations and/or for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rule A42.(a) A dog found to have been exhibited in breach of these Regulations will automatically be disqualified from

exhibition at the show and from any award gained thereat.(b) Unless the exhibitor provides a satisfactory explanation for the dog being exhibited in breach of these

Regulations then he/she may be subject to further penalties of either a fine or as listed under Rule A42.2 (a) No substance which alters the natural colour, texture or body of the coat may be present in the dog’s coat for

any purpose at any time during the Show. No substance which alters the natural colour of any external part ofthe dog may be present on the dog for any purpose at any time during the Show.

(b) Any other substance (other than water) which may be used in the preparation of a dog for exhibition must notbe allowed to remain in the coat or on any other part of the dog at the time of exhibition.

3 No act or operation which alters the natural conformation of a dog or any part thereof may be performed except:(a) Operations certified to the satisfaction of the General Committee.(b) The removal of dewclaws of any breed.(c) The shortening of tails of customarily docked breeds but only up to an acceptable age limit which shall be

prescribed from time to time.(d) Operations to prevent breeding, provided that such operations are notified to the Kennel Club before

neutered dogs are shown.Nor must anything be done calculated to in the opinion of the General Committee to deceive.

4 The General Committee without previous notice may order an examination of any dog or dogs at any Show. Anyexamination thus ordered will be made by a person having executive authority who shall have a written directivefrom the Kennel Club in their possession. Samples may be taken for further examination and analysis.

5 An individual has the right to lodge an objection to a dog only if he/she is the owner or handler of a dog competing inthe same breed or class. An objection may, however, be lodged by an official of the Show or by anyone so deputedby the Kennel Club. It will be the responsibility of the individual who lodges the objection or the official (asappropriate), to substantiate the grounds for the objection. The Kennel Club will substantiate the grounds for anobjection made on its behalf.

6 Any objection by an individual related to an infringement of these Regulations must be made in writing to the ShowSecretary at his/her office before the close of the Show and the individual must produce evidence of identity at thetime of lodging the complaint.

The Attention of exhibitors is drawn to the fact that any advertisement for a coat preparation orshampoo or similar in either Schedule or Catalogue does not imply that the use of such preparationmay not contravene Kennel Club Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs For Exhibition-F(B). Thisalso applies to any coat preparation or shampoo or similar on sale at The National Dog Show. The

attention of exhibitors is directed to the Declaration they are required to sign on the Entry form.
