Scholarship opportunities are available for all high school students. They are listed by due date. New ones are

highlighted in blue. Submit a request for a transcript from Ms. Smith at least three days prior to the due date.

April

Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes-Twenty-five $10,000 cash awards. Students between 8 and 18 who are permanent

residents and currently working on an inspiring service project or have worked on one in the last 12 months are eligible.

College JumpStart Scholarship-First Place $1,000. Tenth through twelfth grade students who are U. S. citizens or legal

Fort Walton Beach Rotary Club Program-John T. Morgan III Memorial, James M. Sutton, and Kay Stokes Memorial-

Scholarships may be renewable for one additional year. Seniors are eligible. Academic achievement, personal character,

Johann E. Doum (JED) Scholarships-Multiple $1,000 scholarships. FWBHS seniors planning to attend four-year accredited

college or after high school/advanced education program, including trade school are eligible. Awards based on academics

(20%), athletics (20%), community service/extracurricular (20%), Christian faith/character (20%), and leadership (20%).

Absence of any one of the five categories will not prevent applicant from being selected. Must complete application, write

Jackie Spellman Scholarship Foundation Award-Approximately twelve $3000-$10,000 scholarships. Seniors with a minimum

3.0/4.0 GPA who have financial need and are leukemia or lymphoma patients and/or children or siblings of leukemia or

lymphoma patients are eligible. Must complete application, write essay of 600-800 words, and provide recent color

photograph, doctors letter of diagnosis or death certificate, 2019 FAFSA form (SAR), 2018 federal tax return, two letters of

23rd Annual Signet Classics Student Scholarship Essay Contest-Five $1,000 scholarships. Juniors and seniors who are U. S.

Alpha Delta Kappa Future Teacher Scholarship-$500. Seniors with at least a 2.5 GPA who attend schools in South Okaloosa

County are eligible. Must complete application, write paragraph about what has inspired you to become a teacher, and

CarBrain Scholarship-$1,000. Seniors planning to attend a college or university in the 2019 school year are eligible. Must

Masonic Association of District Three Scholarship-$1,000, renewable one more year. To be eligible must: be seniors with at

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Psi Iota Iota Chapter Scholarship & Awards Program-African-American male seniors with a

Northwest Florida State College Honors Scholars-Two FWBHS students receive scholarships covering tuition and fees for up

to forty-eight in-state credit hours of study. (Twelve credit hours during fall and twelve during spring.) Seniors with a 3.0/4.0

GPA who have been accepted and plan to attend NWFSC are eligible. Must complete application and FAFSA and agree to

Fort Walton Beach Community Chorus-Two $1,500 scholarships. Okaloosa or Santa Rosa County seniors who are planning to

e-waste is..." Top 10 applications will be selected as finalists who will be asked to write 500- to 1,000-word essay about e-

Summer Allen Volunteer Scholarship-$500. All FWBHS seniors (regardless of after high school plans) who have had

CARiD Photo Contest-$1,000. Students between ages of 16 and 20 who will be enrolling in post-secondary education next

FNLGA Big Bend Chapter Scholarship-Up to $3,000; renewable. Seniors with a 3.0/4.0 GPA planning to attend a technical

center, community college, or university leading to a career in Florida’s nursery and landscape industry are eligible. Students

residing in Big Bend area are given first priority. Scholarships based on scholastic achievement, financial need, interest in

Florida’s nursery and landscape industry and thoroughness of application. Must complete application, write essay, and

Jane Austen Society of North America Essay Contest-1st Place-$1,000; 2nd Place-$500; 3rd Place $250. High school students

are eligible. Must complete entry form, write essay of 6-8 pages on "Northanger Abbey can be described as a book about

books. There is, of course, the well-known 'defense of the novel,' but characters also discuss their reading habits, name

specific novels, and even consider history books. In her works, Austen often makes use of fiction, poetry or plays, either

explicitly or indirectly. Explore how she does this in Northanger Abbey." High school students may bring in another Austen
