I - PROFILE OF THE SCHOOL
The School of Education was established in 2002, which consists of the following
departments:
1. Department of Education
2. Department of Physical Education
The following Professors have occupied as Chairperson of the school since 2002:
1. Sr. Prof. K.Krishnah (from 2002 to 30.06.2013)
2. Prof. K. Chandrasekaran (01.07.2013 to 30.06.2015 & from 01.07.2017 to till date)
3. Prof.A.Muthumanickam (01.07.2015 to 30.06.2017)
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
The Department of Education established in the year 1976, became a part of
the School of Education in 2002. Prof. JeyaKothaiPillai was the founder Head of the
Department of Education.
The department offers M.Ed. Programme, which is approved by the UGC,
NCTE and The Government of Tamil Nadu. The Department also offers M.Phil.,
and Ph.D. in Education (Part-Time and Full-Time). The Department has the unique
credit of having nearly 100 psychometric instruments, besides more than 100
instructional video packages and CAI packages. The alumni of the Department are
employed in countries like Maldives, Kenya, Peru, U.K. and Ethiopia, besides the
University Departments, Government and Private Colleges of Education, and DIETs
across the nation.
DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The Department of Physical Education was established in the year 1968. It
aims at developing positive attitude along with physical fitness for a balanced life
style. Active participation in sports and games helps sportsmen reduce stress and tone
up their physique. Physical Education paves way for developing motor skills which
are essential not only for sportsmen but also for everybody.
The Vision of the Department
Providing Qualitative Scientific Teacher Education in Physical Education
Developing an understanding of techniques and strategies of sports and games.
Inculcating knowledge of proper health procedures related to physical exercises.
Encouraging sportsmen to express their talents and develop psychomotor skills.
Promoting the spirit of sportsmanship, team spirit and leadership qualities.

Important events
Madurai Kamaraj University organised the South zone Inter University Badminton (men & women)
tournament at ANJA College, Sivakasi from 02.10.16 to 07.10.16. Totally 163 terms participated in the
tournament 84 Men and 79 Women.
Every academic year, about 32 sports and games competitions are conducted at inter collegiate level. South
Zone Inter University and All India Tournaments for both men and women disciplines are also conducted.

India) Centre at Bangalore during 23rd

In collaboration with MannarThirumalaiNaicker College, Madurai, the University organized the UGC
sponsored National Seminar on “Physiological Aspects of Training, Nutrition, Recovery and Performance” on
10th August, 2012 at MannarThirumalaiNaicker College, Madurai.
The School Organised 10 Days summer coaching camp in Hockey (men) and Athletics (men& Women) for
Madurai Kamaraj University affiliated college students at Department of Physical Education from 03.06.2007
to 12.06.2007
Organised Independence Day Mini Marathon Race for men and women on 14.08.2007, 800 students from
Madurai Kamaraj University affiliated colleges and University Departments Participated.
Intercollegiate south zone and All India Tournaments
Every year our Madurai Kamaraj university is conducting 18 men and 16 women intercollegiate
tournaments. The players who excel are selected as best players of the tournaments to represent our Madurai
Kamaraj University for South zone and All India Tournaments

Under XII Five Year Plan, The Cluster classroom for Social
Sciences consisting of One A/C. Seminar Hall with the capacity
of 100 seats, A/C. computer Laboratory with 10 Computer
Systems, Interactive White Board with Wifi connection, which
was opened by our Honourable Vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. P.P.
Chelladurai on the occasion of Teachers‟ Day celebration on
05.09.2017.

Dr.K.Chandrasekaran
Global Economic Progress & Research Association presented the BEST CITIZEN of INDIA –
GOLD MEDAL AWARD (2017) to Dr.Chandrasekaran, for his outstanding contribution in Physical
Education & Yoga Research. Besides, in recognition of his service in YOGA field, he was awarded the
prestigious “Yoga Seva” (2007) by TamilnaduYogasana Association, India; “Yogacharya” (2004) by Sri
Patanjali Yoga Training Centre, Pondicherry & “Yoga Ratna” (2005) from Athma Yoga Centre and Sports
Development Authority of Tamilnadu, India. Further, he is a recipient of GOLD MEDAL from Indian
Holistic Medical Academy for his contribution in health and fitness.

Sensitisation to school students:
During the year 2007, the faculty members and
scholars of School of Education visited 20

children.

2017 under SwachhtaPakhwada
