NewOutdoor Play Area For 2011
Thornton Hall Farm Country Park is set in 260 acres of beautiful countryside and has been farmed by the Dawson family for generations.
Originally farmed by Mr and Mrs Earnest Dawson in the 1950’s, the farm was passed down to Sandra’s Father John and then to Sandra and her husband John in the late 1980’s.
Sadly Foot and Mouth hit the farm in 2001 forcing John and Sandra to say goodbye to their beloved cattle and sheep. With farming in their blood Sandra could not turn her back on the farm and decided to take the big risk of diversification and turn the farm into a visitor centre where her and John could still enjoy having animals around them daily and share this love and passion with others.
The visitor centre has grown from strength to strengthand 5 years later operates as one of the cleanestmost successful farm parks in the country. John andSandra’s son Christopher now has a managerial rolein the running of the farm meaning the passion offarming still runs strong on this family run farm park.

Logo & Descriptions
DEFRA - Supporting and developing British farming, and encouraging sustainable food production, is one of the three departmental priorities laid down in Defra’s Structural Reform Plan (SRP). This includes helping to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of the whole food chain, including farms and the fish industry, to ensure a secure, environmentally sustainable and healthy supply of food with improved standards of animal welfare. In particular, Farm animals: animal welfare, animal health and diseases, and livestock movement controls.
FFS - Aims to ensure that school trips to farms are safe, enjoyable and educationally worthwhile. All FFS members meet the required standards in the provision of facilities and educational resources for farm visits. These include Health and Safety, current employers liability insurance and adequate toilet and hand washing facilities. Livestock on farms have to be attended by a vet at regular intervals.
Council for LOtC - The Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge is a nationally recognised benchmark that brings together all existing safety and quality badges into one easily identifiable mark of quality. The Quality Badge makes it easier for teaching professionals to organise LOtC activities by helping them to identify organisations providing good quality LOtC activities, reducing paperwork and red tape.
The Quality Badge is awarded to organisations which have pledged to engage in an ongoing process to sustain good-quality learning outside the classroom and have demonstrated that they meet six quality indicators. These indicators show the provider:
1. Has a process in place to assist users to plan the learning experience effectively 2. Provides accurate information about its offer 3. Provides activities, experience or resources which meet learner needs 4. Reviews the experience and acts on feedback 5. Meets the needs of the users; and 6. has safety management processes in place to manage risk effectively
To find out more about the Quality Badge please visit www.lotcqualitybadge.org.uk
The National Farm Attractions Network (NFAN) - Is the only co-operative group established to provide professional assistance and support to Farm and Rural Diversification Enterprises. The NFAN is unique, as the only independent national co-operative for farm and rural attractions.
