Definition of School Principal CompetenciesThe “Competencies” means skill, ability and authority. Competence can be

defined as a set of knowledge, skills, and basic values are reflected in the habit of

thinking and acting from a professional. Competence can also be understood as a

specification of the knowledge, skills and attitude of a person and their applicability in

the work, in accordance with the standard of work required by the society or the world

of work. Apart from the above two senses of competence, According to UU No. 20/2003

about Sisdiknas explain in section 35 (1): “Competencies is the ability of a graduate

qualification that includes attitudes, knowledge, and skills in accordance with the agreed

national standards”

While the principal competencies are the set of knowledge, skills, and basic values that must be controlled or owned by a school principal or applied and reflected in employment or office as principal. In the world of education, there are the competencies or skills that must be owned by principals as educational leaders as well as administrators and educational managers in implementing a number of tasks. Competencies or Skills principal was intended as a preparation for them to be able to carry out educational management effectively and efficiently.

The Kinds of Principal Competencies• Technical skills

Technical skills are the skills to apply theoretical

knowledge into practical actions, skills in using

methods, techniques, procedures or initiatives

through good tactics, or completing tasks

systematically.

Technical skills include:

– Ability reports

– Ability to draw up programs of learning

– The ability to generate data on school statistics

– Skills to make decisions and carry them out

– Typing skills

– Skill to organize space

• Human Relation Skill

Human relations skills is the ability to put

yourself in a work group to establish communication

skills and are able to create satisfaction of both

human. Cooperative relationship atmosphere that

creates human contact between the parties involved.

Human relations skills, among others are:

– Skills put myself in the group

– Skills creates self-satisfaction on subordinates

How ideal principal competencies or the

head of the education unit? Here are thinking

conceptually about the principal competencies

standards. Competencies standards as a result of

academic study below is sufficiently representative

to describe tasks to be walked by the principal.

Formulate the vision, mission, goals and objectives school

Determine the functions (components) schools required to reach each target school

Carrying out the analysis or the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to each

function and the factors

Conclussion Principal competency is the knowledge, skills and values that reflected the

basic principals in the habit of thinking and acting that allows it to be consistently

competent or capable in making decisions about the provision, resource utilization

and increase the potential to improve the quality of education in schools.

The types of general competencies that need to be owned by the principal of

which are : Technical skill, human relation skill and conceptual skill.

Then, according to the Minister of National Education. 13 Year 2007 on

Standards for School / Madrasah principals competencies include Personality

Competence, Managerial Competence, Entrepreneurship Competence,

Supervision Competence and Social Competence.
