Process to Create New Models • Models requested by School Board members

• Models designed for operational efficiency

• Trapeze routing software used to generate models

• Added proposed start times and additional buses in database

within Trapeze to run models

• Start times for efficiency are dependent on location and size of

attendance zones

• The 19 elementary schools with the extra hour of instruction are

included in the models

Cost Factors for New Models • Capital cost for a school bus is approximately $110,000*

• Annual operating cost for a bus is $73,500*

• Estimated costs may vary based on factors such as: • Specific time requests and new program support

• Routing efficiencies based on average daily attendance

• Enrollment changes and student mobility

• Adjustments for actual driving conditions

• Labor, fuel, and capital cost changes

Model 6 Current Start Times with No Stops Before 6:00 am

• Based on current arrival times, special programs, and larger high school

attendance zones, some students are picked up before 6:00 AM

• Of 14,000 OCPS bus stops, there are 183 bus stops (1.3%) with a scheduled

pick up before 6:00 AM

• An estimated 44 buses would be needed

• Additional buses would operate simultaneously to reduce ride time in order to

pick up after 6:00 AM

• Would require capital cost up to $4,840,000 to purchases 44 buses

• Would require an annual operating cost of up to $3,234,000 for the additional

buses
