The expectation is that you will read with your child at least 4 times a week, 10minutes daily reading can really help develop your child’s communication, language and literacy skills. Your child will be coming home every Friday with a library book to share with you and either a wordless picture book or a book with words which the child is expected to try and read. However, at this stage of the year your child isn’t expected to be able to read but will be able to start to recognise the sounds and tricky words we have learnt in phonics. Asking your child questions about characters, their understanding and what they liked or disliked about the book will enrich their reading skills even further. You will have a Reading Diary to write down when your child has read. Please ensure this is completed weekly, if empty your child’s books will not be changed as we will assume they have not read. Please keep their reading record in their book bags at all times. We will be sending home sound sheets every week for your child to practise the sounds they have been learning in phonics that week. Please encourage your child to practise writing these sounds and recognising them in their reading books. The sound sheets do not need to be returned to school once completed. We will also be learning a new tricky each week which we will share with you on Tapestry every Friday . Please find attached the first set of tricky words for you to keep at home so you can play games like ‘memory’ or snap’. Example timetable for weekly Home Learning Monday Sharing a library book together Tuesday Reading wordless picture book/book with words Wednesday Reading wordless picture book/book with words Thursday Reading wordless picture book/book with words Friday Playing tricky word game and completing sound sheets If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us via our class emails or at the gate. Dear Parents/Carers,

In order to support your child’s learning and development we wanted to share the weekly expectations for Reading.

We will also be learning a new tricky each week which we will share with you on Tapestry every Friday. Please find attached the first set of tricky words for you to keep at home so you can play games like ‘memory’ or snap’.

Example timetable for weekly Home Learning

Monday Sharing a library book together

Tuesday Reading wordless picture book/book with words

Wednesday Reading wordless picture book/book with words

Thursday Reading wordless picture book/book with words

Friday Playing tricky word game and completing sound sheets

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us via our class emails or at the gate.

Thank you for your continuing support,

Miss Haines and Mrs Mills
