Academics

Our students have excelled in various academic platforms and we would like to mention a few of them :

Ms. Haaba received the ‘Chancellor’s Gold Medal’ for the Best Outgoing International Student in the Under Graduate

Programme category from Symbiosis International (Deemed University).

Our students had an opportunity to pursue an internship with Top Government bodies and their work was appreciated

by the respective ministries. Highlights are as below:

- Rohan Ganatra worked with NITI Aayog, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of External Affairs during which

he made a suggestive report on enhancement of Schemes launched by the Ministry of Human Re-

source Development (MHRD).

-Aastha Godara was part of the team involved in the creation of a 'White Paper' on the financial health of the

State, which was to be laid on the table of the State Assembly before the Budget while working with Ministry of

Finance.

- Kriti Sood was assigned to write talking points for any ministerial visit to Central Europe while interning

with Ministry of External Affairs.

Outstation Fests

Along with academics our students have done well in various outstation festivals. Some of them are mentioned below:

SCMS contingent won the ''Best Outstation Contingent Trophy'' and the ''Management Trophy'' at Umang'17, the

festival of Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. Meghna Ambati, Naman Singhal,

Sarthak Pandya secured 2nd position for their respective events.

Mr. Bevin was crowned as “Official Mister Global Teen India 2018” on 21st January ,2018 in an event organized

by Alee Club.

Mr. Aditya Kovvali stood second in an essay writing competition organized by SJMSoM, IITB( Shailesh J. Mehta

School of Management, IIT Bombay).

SCMS team won the first prize in Envoyage- Multicity - a consultancy competition, organized in the annual entre-

preneurship festival of IIT Mumbai.

A team of 10 students from different institutes of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) took part in the

World's First INNOMPICS, and intellectual Olympics for change makers held at the College of Engineering, Pune.

The team performed very well and won various awards. SCMS student Vinayak Sharma was also part of the team.

Beyond Classroom

At SCMS Pune, blended learning is encouraged through

online courses. Our students have opted for Google certi-

fication, Hubspot Certification and have completed

MOOC courses offered by Coursera, Alison, Saylor.org,

etc.

Outstation fests

Mr. Khilesh Mamtani was selected for a national cricket tournament -Indian Juniors Premier League to represent

Mumbai in the under 19 category.

Mr. Dhruv Mohite secured 1st position in the Round 2 of Volkswagen Ameo Cup organized at MMRT Chennai in

July 2017. Further in Round 3 of the Volkswagen Ameo Cup between 16th to 21st August 2017, Dhruv managed to

score a Double Podium with two back to back 3rd place finishes in 2/3 races.

Inter SIU tournaments

SCMS Badminton (Girls) Team stood 1st in the Inter-Institute Badminton tournament organized by SIU- University

Sports Board from 1st August to 4th August 2017.

SCMS Table Tennis (boys) team won the SIU tournament organized by USB from 17th to 19th August 2017.

SCMS won the Swimming tournament organized by USB on 15 September 2017 at SIU Lavale. Mr. Parth Sartpo-

dar was awarded the Best Swimmer in the male category.

Mr. Vaibhav Khandelwal and Ms. Aishwarya Poddar bagged the Best Athlete awards in the male and female category

respectively at this year's Inter SIU athletic event.

Mr. Abhishek Gopalkrishnan received a Certificate of Appreciation by SIU Sports cell

SCMS, Pune performed extraordinarily well in sports this academic year. We received Trophy for maximum partici-

pation (Men) and received 3rd prize in the overall championship (SIU Sports) during SIU Sports felicitation.

Awareness and social connect

Community service is an integral part of a student’s life at SCMS. Here at SCMS, students explore and deliver unique

services to the society. Few highlighting activities undertaken by our students are:

Visit to an old age home -22nd December 2017: At SCMS, Initiate is a cell associated with community service.

Students of this cell visited the old age home, “Maher Vatsalyadham ” on 22nd December 2017. The visit was orga-

nized with the idea of visiting old aged and differently abled women, interacting with them and bringing them joy.

The Initiate Cell along with the Novotel Team aimed at bringing a change to their monotonous lives on the occasion

of Christmas by bringing to them few items of food, inclusive of chocolates and cake, taking pictures with them and

creating a festive environment by indulging in activities like singing and games.

A workshop on “Mental awareness and suicide prevention” was conducted by Initial Cell to mark the occasion of

World Suicide Prevention day, which is observed on the 10th of September every year.

Wall of Kindness: A 3 day long event was organized by the Initiate cell of SCMS from 9th to 11th August 2017 with

the idea of helping housekeeping staff, security guards, gardeners and other helpers of the Symbiosis Viman Nagar

Campus. Students collected old but usable things from people and displayed it on a wall, the staff were free to pick up

things of their choice from the wall without any limitations.

Swachhata Abhiyan: In line with the Government’s mission and to promote Swachhata in the local community, the

students of Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies, Pune undertook an awareness drive in the SRMAV School

run by the Pune Municipal Corporation in Ramwadi on 27th January 2018.

Shuruaat Bus : A Road to Global Entrepreneurship Summit-20th November 2017

The Global Entrepreneurship Summit held in Hyderabad on November 28-30 was addressed by Hon’ble Prime

Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi. The U.S. delegation was led by Advisor to the President, Ms. Ivanka Trump. As a

part of the same, the Shuruaat bus visited the campus on 20th November, 2017. The bus received visitors from vari-

ous colleges & schools. Students pitched their business ideas inside the bus in 100 seconds. Mr. Kunal Kumar, Pune

Municipal Commissioner spoke about the plans which the Government would take to make Pune a startup hub.

12th Kirloskar Vasundhara Film Screening at SCMS- SCMS, Pune was a part of the 12th Kirloskar Vasundhara

International Film Festival (KVIFF) Pune. Selected films related to wildlife, environment, energy, air and water

provided by Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival (KVIFF), Pune organizers were screened during this

event. Students won the 2nd Prize in the intercollegiate Ecoquiz held at Savitribai Phule Pune Vidyapeeth. They

received the prize at the hands of Mr. R.R. Deshpande, Joint Managing Director, Kirloskar Oil Engines.

At SCMS, we have a student’s research cell which endeavors to cultivate research habits and acumen among students.

Various events like research paper writing workshop , research conclave, etc have been conducted by this cell. We are

very proud of our students for taking the initiative of publishing/ presenting research papers at such a young age, some

of them are mentioned here:

1. Research paper titled "Innovative Marketing Strategies -There is always a lot to learn" written by Mr. Madhav

Mahajan has been published in the ISERD journal and he won 2nd prize in presenting it at the IEEE Conference.

2. Research paper titled “Role of Media in Menstrual Healthcare” by Aditi Rakesh was accepted for publication in

special issue in Indian Journal of Public Health Research and Development -A Journal indexed in Scopus and also

found in UGC list of journals.

3. Research paper titled "Royal Enfield: A religion in making" written by Dr. Ishita along with our students Ms.

Aarushi and Ms Shreyasi was selected for fast track presentation in the IIM-NASMEI Summer marketing

conference. The presentation was at IIMI MARCON 2017 conference on 27-29 July 2017.

4. Research paper titled “A study of Employee Involvement and commonly followed practices in the IT Sector in

India” by Ms. Sonali Vaghani has been published at International Journal for Engineering and Management Re

search.

5. Research paper of Zulfa Shan “Kashmir the paradise on earth- an analysis of tourism service quality and

circumstances influencing the depreciation of tourism in Kashmir” has been published in International Research

Journal of Management Science and Technology, Volume :8, issue :7.

6. Research paper titled "Strategic Brand Management" by Ms. Kavya Shah, SY was presented by her at 4th

Academic International Conference on Business, Marketing and Management organized by FLE Learning at

Martin Conference center at Harvard Medical School, Boston USA) .

7. Extended abstract titled “Bro culture: Study of toxic work cultures in start-ups” by Tanushree Mahapatra and

Ad itya Kovvalli was selected for presentation by Academy of HRD conference organized in IIM Ahmedabad in

the month of November 2017.

SCMS is proud of its alumni, who have been achieving laurels at different plat-

forms.

Mr. Aaditya Kitroo was chosen as a “Champion of Change” by the NITI

Aayog, he was a part of two day sessions that included brain storming ses-

sions and presentations with secretaries of cabinet ministries, cabinet min-

isters and the Prime Minister of India. The only individual from Jammu &

Kashmir, Kitroo presented various initiatives that the government could

undertake to revive, sustain and improve the handloom sector across the

country.

Mr. Abhimanyu Asija won the “Emerging Company - Young Entrepreneur

Award” at the World Non Ferrous Metal Award function which had appli-

cants from the entire metal industry from all over India, Middle East and

some from Europe.

Ms. Hanisha Lalwani received the “Outstanding Young Communicator of

the Year” Award by the Middle East Public Relations Associa-

tion. MEPRA’s Awards Program is the leading public relations awards

program in the Middle East.

Mr. Divij Shah made the Country proud. He won a Silver Medal in the

Asian Para Cycling Championship in Bahrain on 20th Feb 2017 and also

secured a Silver medal for India at the 7th Asian Para Cycling Champion-

ship in Naypyitaw, Myanmar in February 2018.

Ms. Aditi Chatterjee and Ms. Harsha Ramchandani, were featured by

NDTV for Urjayati- project to get children back to school.

Alumni Meet 2018

SCMS-Pune had its Alumni meet on 20th January 2018. The

event was a huge success, it witnessed alumni from the first

10 batches . The campus was lively with buzzing enthusias-

tic Alumni who were keen and excited to interact with

faculty and students.

AMAs

SCMS has also been holding AMA (Ask Me Anything) ses-

sions on regular basis, wherein our Alumni come and inter-

act with our students. They share their experiences, resolve

doubts and guide our students.

ICICI direct Centre for Finance Learning (ICFL) Certification Course

SCMS conducted a training programme for SCMS students on the topic “Stock Market Operations Training and Work-

shop”. The total duration of the course was 30 hours (29 July to 26 August 2017)

Advanced Excel Workshop

Full day Certification Workshop on "Excel For Business" - 12 January 2018 was conducted at SCMS . The Resource

Person was Microsoft Certified Excel Trainer Mr. Pavan Lalwan

Labour Law workshop

SCMS, Pune in association with the Pune chapter of ICSI (Institute of Company Secretaries of India), a statutory body con-

stituted under the Act of Parliament, organized a full day workshop on " Labour laws and Compliances" on Saturday , the

5th of August 2017 from 9: 30 am to 5: 00 pm at SCMS, Pune Viman campus. The Resource person for the workshop was

CS Sandeep Nagarkar Practicing Company Secretary and Partner in KNP & Associates.

Workshops have also been conducted in the areas of Social Media, Cloud Computing and Security.

SCMS track record for placements has been rising over the years. This is possible only because of the dedicated efforts of

Placement cell which is administered by our students under the able guidance of faculty.

Tankers, Hats Off, L&T, Hellman, Wiseguy Research Consultants, My Gate, Club Mahindra, Tech Mahindra, Multifit,

Corporate Research Projects and Management Development Programmes (MDPs)

To provide practical exposure to students, SCMS initiated Corporate research projects and has successfully completed a few.

In the previous year SCMS collaborated with Phoenix Mechano and this year with Association of Indian Forging Industry

(AIFI) on the topic “Create Database to assist new emerging forging industries in India”. The project team includes students

mentored by faculty.

SCMS faculty conducted Management Development Programmes (MDPs) and Corporate trainings for various companies

like Coca Cola, Konnet, CPHR Recruitment Consultancy firm, Godrej, Wipro, Avaya etc.

Foundation Day of SCMS

Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies, Pune celebrated its 13th Foundation Day on the 12th July 2017,

Wednesday. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mrs. Rupinder Brar, Income Tax Commissioner, Mumbai.

Common Induction Programme for SCMS, SID & SCMC students was held on 7th July 2017.Dignitaries from-

Symbiosis International (Deemed University) graced this event – Dr. S. B Mujumdar – Founder and President,

Symbiosis, Hon. Chancellor SIU, Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Principal Director, Symbiosis; Pro-Chancellor, SIU,

Dr. Rajani Gupte, Vice-Chancellor, SIU, Dr. Aparna Hebbani, Dean-Media, Communication and Design.

The Chief Guest for the day was Mr. Shekhar Badve, Director- Lokusdesign.

Environment Conclave

Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies, Pune had its Environment Conclave on the 29th July 2017. The

theme for the conclave was ‘Human Environment Interactions’ .The speakers shared their expert knowledge

with respect to the various elements of nature, environment and its importance to human life.

Festival of Thinkers:

The ‘Festival of Thinkers’ is a lecture series initiated by Symbiosis International (Deemed University) as part of

its endeavor to facilitate student-industry interactions by inviting eminent thinkers from various sectors. On the

16th of January, 18, SCMS was privileged to host the festival of thinkers lecture series from 11:00 am to 1:00

pm at the SVC auditorium.

Air Marshall Bhushan Nilkanth Gokhale, Vice Chief of Air Staff, PVSM, AVSM, VM was invited as the

keynote speaker for the same. The festival of thinkers was also graced by the presence of Honourable Vice

Chancellor Dr. Rajani Gupte and Dr. Rajiv Yervadekar, Dean, Faculty of Health and Biological sciences.

The Institute also provides opportunities for International Exposure through the University’s Global Immersion Pro-

gramme. This year we had incoming students from Berlin School of Economics and Law-DAAD, ESC Rennes School

of Business, IESEG School of Management , Flensburg University of Applied Sciences and University of Pompeu

Fabra .

Also our students went for GIP to Dauphine University, ESSEC BBA, ISEG, Berlin School of Economics & Law,

DHBW, Heidenheim and Ravesnburg , Flensburg University and Hoschule Bremen.

Deakin University students visit

The students of Deakin University, Australia visited SCMS for a six-day study tour on the subject “Investment and

Portfolio Analysis” from 20th November to 25th November 2017.They had an industry tour as well where they were

taken to PwC and were given an insight into Investment Banking in India.

Faculty Development Programmes conducted by International Faculty :

Dr. Subhajyoti Bandyopadhyay, Jr. Professor from the Department of Information Systems and Operations Manage-

ment, Warrington College of Business Administration, University of Florida, USA conducted a session on the “Role of

Information Technology in Business Education” on 5th June 2017.

FDP on "Corporate Governance issues in Auditing" was conducted at SCMS on 21st Sept 2017. The FDP was organized

by STLRC and SCMS. The resource person for the same was Prof. Dr. Agnes Aschfalk- Evertz Professor for Interna-

tional Accounting & Group Accounting at Berlin School of Economics. Along with SCMS faculty there were partici-

pants from SCON and SCIT as well.

We have made a small effort to capture the special memories, achievements of SCMS during the past one year.

A big thanks to the dedicated faculty and staff of SCMS. The well qualified faculty of SCMS kept themselves updated by

completing various offline and online courses and degrees. They continued to share knowledge outside the classroom

through management and faculty development programmes. Our faculty also contributed by publishing articles and case
