Why Road Safety?

• Safety is the first and only priority any company should have in relation to its business

• Safety – safe practice means people to come into work and go home in the same state they arrived

• 94% of fatalaties on our roads in 2008 were in rural or bulit up areas – only 6% were on Motorways

• That is 2,538 deaths, 158 were on Motorways

• 1 death is 1 too many

• Norbert Dentressangle safety vision:

– Is the prevention of work related accidents and illnesses, and environmental incidents in the business by ensuring staff follow management policies and procedures implemented to deliver customer excellence

Some Statistics

Annual summary of all Road Accidents in the UK since 2006

Year Killed Serious Slight Total injury Note

2010 1,857 20,803 185,995 206,798 Traffic levels fell 2%

2009 2,222 24,690 195,234 222,146

2008 2,538 26,000 202,333 228,000

2006 3,172 29,000 226,559 255,000

• These statistics show that road safety in general is improving, but the numbers still remain far too high

• As a General Manager of a Logistics site it is down to me to ensure that safety remains key and critical to all my staff as we do our daily jobs

• We deliver 424 deliveries a week to stores, we trunk and move products about the country to other sites across 100 trunking deliveries

• We interact daily with the public on high streets and busy roads, so our safety focus is our number one concern
