Scottsdale RevitalizationFrom the more mature neighborhoods rich in history to the newer areas set in the desert,Scottsdale is a dynamic community.

The areas south of Indian Bend Road contain thecity’s original neighborhoods that form the core ofsouthern Scottsdale. As this area continues tomature, the neighborhoods require concentratedefforts that keep Scottsdale great.

The city recognizes that the time and money youdevote to maintaining or renovating your home,neighborhood or business are investments in thecommunity. That’s why we have recently redou-bled our efforts to assure that our programs and services are meeting the specific needs of the neighborhoods and business districts in southernScottsdale.

Through the Scottsdale Revitalization Program, thecity has stepped up our efforts to maintain, renovate orrebuild city buildings, parks and other public facilities,and to attract new businesses and investment.

In addition, we hope to partner with you, our residents, business owners and community groups inorder to exchange the tools and resources necessary forthe revitalization, restoration and renewal of southScottsdale.

PLUMBING REBATE PROGRAM

Low-flow showerheads and toilets will save youmore than just water. By installing water savingfixtures, you may be eligible to get a rebatefrom the city. Your home or business must havebeen built before 1992. Eligible water-savingfixtures include showerheads that have a flowof 2.75 gallons per minute (gpm) or less andtoilets rated at 1.6-gallons per flush (gpf).

LANDSCAPE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

“ROCK THE HOUSE” PROGRAM

This citywide program helps qualified recipients meet Scottsdale property maintenance requirements. As part of the program, rock or gravel is supplied to low-income Scottsdale homeowners. Thehome must be a minimum of 15 years old andbe owner-occupied.

HOT WATER RECIRCULATION SYSTEM REBATE

To help reduce your indoor water usage, thecity offers a one-time rebate of up to $200 toqualifying Scottsdale single-family residentialwater customers who install a hot water recirculation system in their home. This waterconservation system consists of pipes with amotor driven pump that recirculates waterbetween a water heater and hot water faucets,eliminating the need to let water run until itgets hot.

TURF REMOVAL REBATE

Promote a healthy and attractive landscape,conserve water and save money! By removingturf and installing a low-water-use, drought-enduring landscape, qualifyingScottsdale single-family residential water customers can receive a one-time water billcredit of up to $1500. This rebate is offeredfor the removal of turf from the landscape andthe installation of city-approved landscapingand offers two landscape options. Propertiesthat have received rebate credit in a previouslandscape rebate program or have convertedturf landscaping prior to August 5, 2005 arenot eligible.

TURF REMOVAL REBATE FOR COMMERCIAL/RESIDENTIAL COMMON AREAS

Promote a healthy and attractive landscape,conserve water and save money! By removingturf and installing a low-water-use, drought-enduring landscape, qualifying nonresidential properties, multifamily residential communities and common areas ofhousing developments (within the Scottsdalewater system) can receive a one-time waterbill credit of up to $3,000. This rebate isoffered for the removal of turf from the landscape and the installation of city-approved landscaping. Properties that havereceived rebate credit in a previous landscaperebate program or have converted turf landscaping prior to August 5, 2005 are noteligible.

Scottsdale Solid Waste residential collectioncustomers...if you just can’t wait until your nextscheduled week of brush collection, there’s aconvenient way for you to discard your brushand bulk items. Through an agreement with theSalt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community,Scottsdale single-family, Solid Waste customersmay haul up to 2,000 pounds of refuse, brushor bulk items generated from their property tothe Salt River Landfill at no charge. Usageguidelines must be followed to use this pro-gram free of charge.

All residential, single-family households receiveone collection of recycling weekly. Your collection day is on either Thursday or Fridaydepending on your home’s location.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING DROP OFF EVENT

Computers, radios, telephones and cell phoneshave greatly impacted our society. However,many contain dangerous elements that canthreaten the environment when discarded inlandfills. The city provides safe disposal of yourusable, but no longer needed, electronicdevices.

BRUSH AND BULK COLLECTION/NINE-DAY RULE

The city’s Solid Waste Management Divisioncollects brush and bulk items once a month forpaying residential refuse and recycling customers for items too large or numerous to fitin a regular refuse container. Depending onyour area, you may be asked to place theseitems in your alley or in your front yard nearthe curb.

To help control debris in the streets and alleys,please follow the city’s Nine-Day Rule: Placebrush and bulk items out for collection nomore than two weekends prior to the Mondayof your scheduled pick-up.

ALLEY MAINTENANCE AND CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS

The city treats alleys for weeds and dust as partof its efforts to help maintain safety and meetstate air quality standards. However, it is yourresponsibility as a home or business owner tomaintain your alleyway overall. Please do notplace cement, dirt or any other constructiondebris in the alleys or in any city refuse containers. If you have a contractor working onyour home, it is your responsibility to keep con-struction debris out of the alley and ensure thatit is disposed of properly.

FRONT YARD PARKING

In August 2003, the City of Scottsdale beganenforcement of adopted changes to the frontyard parking requirements. To enhance thecurb appeal within neighborhoods, the adoptedchanges regulate the total front yard parkingsurface areas for Scottsdale homeowners.

FUNDS PROGRAM

Through this program, the city will design andimplement improvements along the McDowellRoad Corridor within the right-of-way on afunds-available basis. The improvements will bemade in several phases. The program providesfor a substantial cost-savings for participating property owners and a new, unified look for theMcDowell Road Corridor.
