First held in April 2011, the Singapore Construction Productivity Week (SCPW) returned in 2012 featuring events to encourage and inspire industry �rms to play an active part in raising productivity and capability.

Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan o�cially launched the SCPW 2012 and BuildTechAsia Exhibition 2012.

Highlights of SCPW 2012 include the Build Smart Confer-ence, BuildTechAsia Exhibition, Skilled Builder and Building Information Modelling (BIM) Competition and the o�cial launching ceremony of the Tiong Seng Prefab Hub.

During the Build Smart Conference, industry professionals shared best

practices and showcased projects that have successfully adopted productive

processes and methods of construction. The two-day conference was attended

by nearly 800 industry professionals.

OFFICIAL OPENING OF TIONG SENG PREFAB HUB Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam officially launched the Tiong Seng Prefab Hub together with BCA’s former Deputy Chairman Lee Chuan Seng, Tiong Seng's Chief Executive Officer Pek Lian Guan and BCA’s Chief Executive Officer John Keung.

The Tiong Seng Prefab Hub is Singapore’s first integrated construction prefab hub. It is a multi-purpose facility which houses production lines for prefabricated bathroom units (PBU), an area for pre-assembly, storage and maintenance of advanced formwork systems, a training centre, and a Building Information Modelling (BIM) centre and workers dormitory.

DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam tried his hand at various precast-related materials.

Trade Skills Competition

This competition saw a total of 60 teams from 24 companies who pitted their

skills against each other in 5 different categories - drywall installation,

plumbing and sanitary, system formwork installation, architecture finishings and

mobile aerial platform operations.

COMPETITIONSBIM Competition

The 48-hour virtual BIM competition was held from 8 May 2012 to 10 May 2012. Participants comprised 44 teams from over 30 firms, associations and institutes of higher learning. The prize-giving ceremony for the winners of the competition was held during the Build Smart Conference.

BCA PAVILLIONThe Building Construction Authority (BCA) had set up a BCA Pavilion at the BuildTechAsia Exhibition 2012. It showcased key productivity technologies and processes in various aspects of the construction through the use of interactive media. The BCA Pavilion was also an avenue for interested parties to contact and consult BCA on the Construction Productivity & Capability Funds (CPCF).
