____________________ THEY ALWAYS COME BACKby Rabbi Alon Levkovitz

At The One School’s graduation ceremony, I gave a message to the parents, which upon further reflection I find to be relevant in helping us strengthen our important relationships.

In one of his short stories, Leo Tolstoy tells of an emperor who embarked on a journey to find a new philosophy to guide his own personal life in his pursuit of becoming an effective and benevolent ruler. At the end of his process, the emperor narrowed the solution to three questions:1. When is the most important

time?2. What is the most important

thing to do?3. Who is the most important

person in your life?

The answers to the first two questions are quite predictable—NOW is the most important time and BEING KIND is the most important thing to do. The answer to the to the third question is more interesting—I’ll get back to it.

Gali and I were preparing ourselves for the first Passover Seder without having the whole family together, as our daughter Maya is away

at college. Maya called me that morning to wish me a Happy Passover and to tell me she will be celebrating at the Hillel. Only that wasn’t her real plan; five minutes before the Seder she showed up at Temple. We were, obviously, thrilled. When we said goodbye the next morning (too short a visit, but better than none at all), she told us how she never really appreciated the amount of love she gets from us and the whole community, and how important she is to so many people.

I read about an Australian mother whose six-year-old son became very angry one day and told her “Mother, I don’t love you anymore and I’m leaving the house”. “Okay my darling,” said the mother, “Let me help you with the packing”. They went to his room and she helped him pack all the essentials: his teddy bear, his lucky pants, and his Superman costume. Then she went to the kitchen to make his favorite sandwiches so he will not go hungry when he is away. At the door, the little boy was holding his little suitcase in one hand and a brown bag with the sandwiches in the other. As he started walking down the short pathway, his mother said “Goodbye darling, don’t forget to keep in touch”. The boy opened the gate, turned left and disappeared into his new future. Less than two minutes later, he ran back home, straight into his mother’s open arms who was still standing by the door. She later explained, “I knew that nobody ever leaves a loving home. They always come back.”

How do we create a loving home? The answer to Tolstoy’s third question, “Who is the most important person in your life?” is THE PERSON WITH WHOM YOU ARE RIGHT NOW. You probably remember times when you talked to a professor or supervisor and they were outwardly there, but inwardly somewhere else. They were just waiting for this conversation to end so they could move on to the next person. Luckily, we also have other people in our lives who, whenever we are with them, make us feel that we are the most important person. There is nothing in the world they want to do other than be with us.

Children don’t need our company so much. They enjoy being by themselves, daydreaming, playing with their toys, reading books, and yes, staring at their screens. But when they must tell us something important or have an urgent question (which all of them are), they must feel that at that moment that they are the most important person in our life. No texting, no checking Facebook, no looking at them with one eye as the other is kept on the TV while we mumble, “Great job, honey, beautiful, keep playing”. You don’t fool them—they get it. But when we give them the proper attention reserved for the most important person, they would never leave (even when they live far away) because “Nobody ever leaves a place when they feel loved.”

I hope you all are having a wonderful summer and that you have been able to participate in some of the programs, services, and special events that have been taking place at the Temple. I saw many of you at the Palm Beach Gardens Aquatic Complex at the end of June for the Temple’s Summer Pool Party. We had a great day there—the weather was wonderful and it was terrific to see so many congregants out for a day of fun.

I also want to let you know that we have three newly elected members on the Board of Directors. Peter Sandquist, Michael Walder, and Harvey White were elected at the Annual Meeting in May to serve a two-year term. I want to congratulate them, as well as the entire Board of Directors, for

serving and helping to ensure that your Synagogue is run professionally and is financially sound.

With another new Temple Beth Am fiscal year getting off to a start, I also want to remind you about returning your completed Voluntary Financial Commitment (VFC) forms to the Temple office as soon a possible. Some things have changed on the forms and if you need any help or have questions, please contact the Temple office at 561.747.1109. It is very important for us to have this information so that we can continue to budget and plan for the upcoming year. While you are doing this, let me also remind you about Sisterhood and Men’s Club membership forms that were mailed in July.

Some upcoming events I’d like to remind you about:• The One School’s first day is

Monday, August 12• Mini-golf and dinner on Saturday,

August 3, for 3rd-8th graders from 4:00pm-7:00pm

• Religious School Open House on Sunday, August 18, from 10:00am–12:00pm (see page 13 for details)

• First day of Religious School is Sunday, August 25, followed by a JAMTY and JAMTY Jr. outing to Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park from 12:00pm–5:00pm (see page 12 for details)

Most Shabbat Services are Fridays at 7:00pm, but on August 30, we will be having an early Service at 6:00pm followed by a Labor Day/ “welcome back from summer” BBQ. Everyone is invited and a there is no cost to attend. Please RSVP to the Temple office so that we can plan for food accordingly.

Just about every week we have Mah Jongg, Canasta, and Yoga, in addition to monthly Sisterhood and Men’s Club meetings, and so many more activities. For times and details for these and other events, you can visit www.templebetham.com/calendar.

In about seven weeks, we will be celebrating the Jewish new year of Rosh Hashanah, but did you know that in Ancient times, Judaism actually had four New Years? One in Tishrei, Shevat, Nisan, and Elul. There’s a New Year for the trees, and one for tithing, there’s the head of the year, and there’s when the Torah tells us to start counting the months. It seems like a lot, but when you think about it, although we are no longer an agrarian society, we actually have that in modern life as well. There’s Rosh Hashanah (this year on Sept. 29), New Years Day on January 1, Temple Beth Am’s fiscal year that starts on July 1, and of course there is the new year that begins in August when summer vacation ends.

I’m always excited for the August new year, maybe it’s seeing faces of those who’ve been away traveling over summer, or maybe seeing the kids start another school year, but August has always had that proverbial “new box of crayons” smell. This time, however, I am especially excited. I’ve been counting down until today all summer long. You see, in the summer we combine The Scribe into one June/July issue that arrives in your mailboxes in the beginning

of June, which means it goes to print in the middle of May. So when something happened in June, I couldn’t write about it until now. What happened that has me so excited?

As of June 1, I became the Executive Director of Temple Beth Am. To many of you, and anyone who was at the Annual Meeting, this isn’t news. But to some of you who’ve been away, or who haven’t met me, it’s new information, and I’d like to take this opportunity to reintroduce myself.

I grew up in Tel Aviv and Brooklyn and moved to Palm Beach County in 1998. I hold a BS in Political Science from FAU, and a JD from CUNY School of Law. Judaism has always been a big part of my identity, and I have always been drawn to working in and giving back to the Jewish community. As a teenager I volunteered at religious school and was active in youth groups, and as a college student I worked at the local JCC. In 2015, I joined Temple Beth Am as the Jewish Life Activities Director overseeing a variety of programs from family education at the religious school to special celebrations at the Temple, getting to know the history, interacting with the people, and learning about the various goings on of the Temple along the way. In that time, I’ve gotten to fall in love with this congregation and see how special it is and how much potential it has to do more amazing things in the future—something I look forward to helping lead and be a part of.

That’s the short version of my story, but now it’s your turn. Maybe we’ve never met, or maybe you’ve only known me as your child’s teacher, your movie screener, a Shabbat greeter, a name on a Scribe article. Maybe I’ve only heard your voice over the phone or seen it on a form or a check. Let’s change that. Over the coming months I hope to have many opportunities to get to know you, but to kick things off I’m hosting a Meet and Greet Tea at the Temple, in the Steinhart Chapel. Beverages and refreshments will be served and you are invited to join me anytime during the following dates:• Thursday, August 8, from 4:00pm

to 5:30pm• Tuesday, August 13, from 6:00pm

to 7:30 pm• Monday August 19, from 10:30 am

to 12:00pm• I will also be available at the

Religious School open house on Sunday August 18 from 10:00am to 12:00pm (see page 13 for details)

They say that time moves faster than ever before, but one thing that hasn’t changed is that there is nothing more important than relationships. A synagogue isn’t a store where you buy a product; it’s a community, one that strives to be a reflection and vision of everyone in that community. Whether you have a great idea you want to share, are looking for a way to get involved, or just want to stop by to say hello, I hope you’ll join me and add your voice to that vision.

As he starts digging into the old case, Decker finds a startling connection to a new crime that he may be able to prevent, if only he

SISTERHOOD SCOOP ___________________________by Maril Levy

Since there was no separate July issue of The Scribe, I am starting this August column with a shout out to the Sisters who volunteered to get things done in June. Sisters worked (and laughed and chatted!) to ready our annual membership mailing for the post office (speaking of membership forms, please return yours with your dues check ASAP), and helped Gali Levkovitz with set up and clean up as she hosted her second annual Sisterhood Luncheon on June 18. The luncheon was fabulous; 50 of us enjoyed delicious food, wonderful company, and the happy vibe. Thank you all: Debbie Baseman, Lisa Black, Carol Carswell, Marcia Fisch, Cindy Ginsberg, Margot Hauser, Rena Mittenberg, Nina Nemerofsky, Eileen Ogrin, Rita Silverman, CK Tenenbaum, Dotty Wisch, and Gali Levkovitz!

The Sisters visited the Norton Museum on Friday, June 28. After lunch in the cafe, they enjoyed a guided tour of the newly renovated museum. Thanks to Carole Levine—our awesome activities director! Save the date for our next museum outing: a guided tour of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum: Tuesday, September 17 at 10:00am. (Our monthly 3rd Tuesday Lunch Out will follow at noon at Buco at 566 N. US Highway 1 in Tequesta.)

July’s Lunch Out was held at Salute Market. Also in July, we offered two of our three Let’s Get Together: Sisterhood Summer Speaker Series programs. Susan Benson, MS Ed, spoke about managing

stress, and TBA congregant Andrew Plotkin, PhD, discussed the social forces impacting our personal development. Both programs were wonderful and informative, and we are looking forward to the third program: “De-Mystifying Estate Planning for Women,” presented by Sisterhood member Ceil Randell, Esq. on Wednesday, August 14, at 7:00pm. Please RSVP to Carole Levine if you would like to attend. There is no charge for this event.

Sisterhood’s next Lunch Out is on August 20 at noon, at The River House (2373 PGA Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens). There is free valet parking (a tip is suggested). As always, we’ll get separate checks, so order and pay for whatever you’d like. When you RSVP to Carole, please let her know if your birthday is in August—if so, your lunch is Sisterhood’s treat!

On Wednesday, August 28, join us for Trivia Night at Miller’s Ale House (126 Center St. Jupiter). Dinner is at 6:00pm with trivia starting at 8:00pm. Order and pay for your own meal, then it’s game time! This event is co-sponsored by Men’s Club and is open to all TBA adults and their guests. Thanks to Lois Remick for setting this up. Please RSVP to Carole Levine. (See page 11 for more information.)

A few requests and reminders:

• Return your filled Tzedakah cans to TBA ASAP! We empty them, deposit the coins, and distribute empty cans after Services during High Holy Days. This year, we

will have new cans with a brand new label for you.

• If your 2019 Membership form did not arrive in the mail, please stop by TBA to request a copy, or email Renee Weisman at [email protected].

• Remember that Sisterhood can help you order beautiful flower arrangements for the Bima for all happy occasions, life cycle events, and for High Holy Days. Contact Eileen Ogrin at [email protected] or 561.295.5750.

• Please consider joining the Sisterhood Board. We will recruit nominees this fall. The slate gets approved at our annual January luncheon, and the new Board begins meeting in March. Meetings are the first Tuesday of each month at 1:00pm at TBA, and Board members work to keep Sisterhood engaging, meaningful, supportive, and fun. Please contact Sharon Rosen if you are interested at [email protected] or 561.371.3321.

• RSVPs for all Sisterhood events, programs, and activities go to Carole Levine at [email protected] or 561.339.3909.

With school starting in three weeks, Labor Day right around the corner, and High Holy Days approaching, the Men’s Club directors have been diligently working behind the scenes planning the FY 2019-2020 Men’s Club programs.

Our monthly meeting format will change. Monthly meetings will now be held either in a local restaurant or at TBA with a light dinner. The TBA dinner might be pizza, a “real” New York-style deli, sandwiches from a local sandwich shop, or burgers/franks/beer/soda from the TBA kitchen. Of course, the attendees will pay for dinner, but it will be as cheap as possible.

To develop future leadership of Men’s Club, we want to involve many more of our members in the planning, managing, and servicing of our activities during the year. All events will have a Chairperson and a Co-Chairperson. Either the Chair or the Co-Chair will not be a Men’s Club Director.

Our Fantasy Football League Draft will be held at 10:00am on Sunday, August 25 at TBA. This is your chance to manage an NFL team. Your players might be in the Super Bowl. More information on that will be forthcoming before August 25.

On August 27, Scott Ackerman has arranged dinner at the Marquis Restaurant atop the 43-story Tiara Building on Singer Island with cocktails and schmoozing in their bar/lounge at 6:15pm, followed by 6:45pm dinner in the restaurant with a 360-degree panoramic view for 20 miles around. Due to space limitations, reservations are limited to 30 persons, and will be available starting August 1. Please contact Scott Ackerman at [email protected] after July 31. Reservations will be accepted from the first 30 persons to respond after July 31.

On August 28, Men’s Club and Sisterhood are co-sponsoring Trivia Night at Miller’s Ale House at 126 Center St., Jupiter with a 6:00pm dinner followed by trivia at 8:00pm. Please RSVP to Carol Levine at [email protected] or 561.339.3909 if you are planning to attend. (See page 11 for details.)

On September 10, Rabbi will be hosting dinner for all paid up Men’s Club members at his home starting at 6:00pm. RSVP will be necessary. Details will be distributed in mid-August.

On Sunday, September 15, we will be sponsoring NFL Game Day at TBA beginning at 12:00pm.

Fun and games for all, including football-related games for the kids, televised New England Patriots v. Miami Dolphins football game on the big screen at the Temple, and food available. (See page 10 for details.)

On Saturday evening, October 26, at 6:30pm Bob & Nanci Hochman will be hosting our annual “kick off the year” dinner at Brio.

Finally, on Sunday, November 10, our Annual Veteran’s Breakfast will close out our events schedule for calendar 2019.

We hope to see many more members “step forward” this year and volunteer to assist TBA and Men’s Club in meeting their goals. Volunteer opportunities are available with coordinating our calendar with the TBA calendar, coordinating with TBA when Men’s Club assistance is needed for TBA events, and managing some of our already scheduled events.

____________________ MEN’S CLUB HAPPENINGSby Harvey Silverman

Our always popular business networking event is returning next year! We’re looking for volunteers to be on the planning committee. To participate, please email Mel Wolfe at [email protected].

Dear Rabbi Alon, Sisterhood, Men’s Club, and Congregants,We want to thank all of you who have been emotionally supporting us through this devastating event in our lives. The loss of our 23-year-old grandson has left a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. For those of you who sent contributions to continue the search for Aviv, we thank you. We pray that none of you ever has an experience like this.

Security is everyone’s responsibility: Our children are getting ready to go back to local schools or away to college, and we want them to be prepared from a security perspective. Instruct them in one simple action: See Something, Say Something, Do Something!

Do you know what the numeric equivalents of “fourteen” and “eighty eight’” separately or together as one number mean? See the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) website for the various hate symbols

that may show up on campus. The ADL Hate Symbol Database can be found at https://www.adl.org/hatesymbolsdatabase

For parents, four simple actions: be aware of your surroundings at all times, never give out personal information, place a fraud alert on your credit file, and check out the Parent Guide to Internet Safety and Bullying at https://www2.fbi.gov/publications/pguide/pguidee.htm. Another useful website is https://www.stopbullying.gov.

Next month, as the High Holy Days approach, we will summarize the security activities and training that TBA has implemented and future plans.

YOUTH GROUP NEWS __________________________by Elana Beame, Youth Engagement Director

Welcome back! This summer was a hot and rainy one in Jupiter, but that didn’t stop anyone here from having a wonderful time.

Many of our youth go to sleepaway camps from Florida to Wisconsin, and if I had their address, I sent a small gift from TBA to let them know we were thinking about them! I hope everyone enjoyed their packages and I’m looking forward to continuing this tradition next summer, too.

For those who stayed local, we hosted activities such as a movie

night, a pool party, and cake decorating. For all those who came, I hope you had a great time and look forward to seeing you at more events during the school year.

I’m excited to kick off the school year with these events:

JAMTY and JAMTY Jr. (6th–12th grade) are kicking off their year at Urban Air on Sunday, August 25, 2019. We will join other local youth groups in our area for a fun-filled afternoon of jumping, climbing, and challenging ourselves to try new activities.

Cochavim (3rd–5th grade) is having a Tie-Dye & Tacos event on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 4:00pm before Religious School. There will be a build-your-own taco bar and every kid will receive a Cochavim t-shirt to tie-dye and take home.

A catalog highlighting all of our events for the year will be sent out shortly; please don’t forget to follow us on Instagram @JAMTY.TBA and @TBAJupiter and “friend me” on Facebook, Elana JAMTY Beame, for the most up-to-date information on our events throughout the year.

We need your college student’s address! The College Connection program gives Temple Beth Am the opportunity to send out holiday surprise packages

throughout the year to our college students. This is a wonderful way to let them know that their family and congregation are thinking of them and allows the students to maintain a strong connection to their Judaism. If you would like to participate, please email Elana Beame at [email protected] for more information.

______________________ HAMAKOM HAPPENINGSby Alissa Frankel, Education Director

In 2015, Temple Beth Am’s Religious School got a facelift with a new name, HaMakom, and tagline, “Learn Jewish. Live Jewish.” We did not do this just for the cosmetics; we did this to exemplify the positive experience we want our students to have when they are here. HaMakom at Temple Beth Am strives to create a fun and engaging atmosphere where our students want to be with their friends to learn and spend time together.

When I went to Religious School, it was all about being with my friends and I guess I learned something, too, along the way…otherwise I would not be in the position I am today. I loved Jewish music, going to youth group events after school, learning about the Jewish holidays, and I still have some of my projects I made throughout my Religious School years. However, I definitely didn’t always love everything. I struggled with Hebrew and found

Tefillah to be the most boring part of the day. So when I started here at Temple Beth Am, I recreated my experiences that brought me the most joy and redesigned the parts that didn’t.

I hope you’ll join us at our Open House on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 10:00am. We’ll be sharing with you what makes us different from the Religious Schools we remember from our childhood. See below for more information..

“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”

– Charles Dickens

The Temple Beth Am volunteer team along with the ongoing support of all TBA members lightened the burden of many of our less-fortunate neighbors in June. We were happy to serve close to 200 nourishing meals, prepared in our own Temple’s kitchen and served at our partner facility, St. George’s in Riviera Beach. What a blessing to be able to give of ourselves on behalf of our wonderful congregation.

Doing the prep work, working the kitchen, and serving the meals in June were:

The Temple currently has an urgent need for penne pasta. If anyone would like to donate a box or more, all contributions are welcomed and appreciated. Just bring the boxes to Temple Beth Am and Rich and Jerry (our fearless food prep leaders) will make sure they are put to great use.

Our next Soup Kitchen service will be Monday, August 19, 2019 starting at 5:00pm at St. George’s Center, 21 W. 22nd St., Riviera Beach.

If you or anyone in your family are interested in joining our volunteer team, we’d love to have you with us. In particular, we encourage any school-aged Temple members who are looking for volunteer hours to join the fun (2 full hours credited!).

We look to have around 12 volunteers each month to serve dinners, so please email me, John Baldwin ([email protected]), to get on the monthly volunteer group list.

Temple Beth Am provides meals at St. George’s Soup Kitchen every 3rd Monday of the month, 5:00pm–6:30pm.

THE ONE SCHOOL NEWS FOR AUGUST _________by Patty McCaulley, The One School Early Childhood Director

Ready to Learn at School: Family fun facts and setting up routines

Summer camps, vacations, and laidback lifestyles may have thrown a curve ball to our school habits, but finding ways to return to more solid everyday routines doesn’t have to be a daunting task for parents or children.

In Hebrew, the word for family is Mishpacha. The value of family support highly influences a child’s positive day at school. The following fun family facts are from Harvard Family Research Project.

Did you know?

• Children who eat dinner around the table with their families do better in school.

• Children who take family trips do better in school. Simple, free trips to the park, beach, or library are as good as expensive trips away from home.

• Children who are read to frequently read earlier and better.

• Children who see their parents read regularly are likely to read more themselves.

• Spending 30 minutes of quality time a day with your child can help them to achieve better success or grades at school.

You may also like to consider the routines below to make your child feel more…

• Relaxed. Music can help your child avoid the morning rush. Play music that is soothing and familiar to your child. Ask him/her to accomplish a morning task(s) by the time playing time is over.

• Energized. The morning struggle is not a time to skip a good breakfast. Healthy breakfast choices increase concentration levels.

• Connected. Talking about the school day lets your child know you care. Ask your child to share a good thing that happened during the day. Also ask specific questions such as “What colors did you like in your art or play activities?”

• Prepared. Being prepared for the next school day is less stressful for everyone in the family and a positive start to the day.

• Rested. A set bedtime helps children fall asleep more quickly. Bedtime routines 15 minutes prior to bedtime to read, chat and/or make up stories is a wonderful family bonding time to end a day.

We should also remember that a feeling of spirituality provides a calming and stress-free environment for families at home and at school. The celebration of Shabbat on a weekly basis reminds our children that there is an appropriate time to slow our lives down and to rest our bodies and our minds. It is our weekly day of rest; a reminder that after having created the world, God rested and looked around to see how good it was. For us, it is also a time for our One Schoolers to feel the spirit of their school environment and to know that it is good.

For me, the routine that will make my day a positive one is to greet many of you each morning upon your arrival at The One School!

Summer Camp International Travelers

Each week our One School campers were enthusiastic about which country they were going to be actively learning about next. From safaris to royal tea parties, adventures were taken with our own little passports in hand. Together we traveled to Kenya, Egypt, China, Israel, the United States of America, Mexico, Great Britain, and Brazil. Cultural music, dance, clothing, cooking, arts & crafts, science, as well as our international Amazing Athletes program were enjoyed by both the children and teachers.

Bat Mitzvah of Michelle Heims (August 17, 2019)

It is with tremendous pride, joy, and love that we announce that our daughter, Michelle Elizabeth Heims, will be called to the Torah at Temple Beth Am as a Bat Mitzvah on August 17, 2019.

Michelle is an 8th grader at Independence Middle School. Michelle is an Honor Roll student, a member of the National Junior Honor Society, she proudly serves as the Vice-President of the IT/Business Academy, and she sings with the “Americana” chorus at IMS. Aside from school, Michelle’s “happy place” is at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre, taking voice lessons, jazz, tap-dancing classes, and preforming in local musical theatre productions.

With all of her accomplishments, we are most proud of Michelle’s kindness and empathy toward others. We are so proud of Michelle’s hard work and dedication toward this important day. Along with sister Sydney, we are thankful to the entire

staff at Temple Beth Am, including her Religious School teachers, Rabbi Alon, Cantorial Soloist Marcy, and Rabbinic Intern Brett for helping Michelle prepare for this special day. Mazel Tov, Michelle, on your Bat Mitzvah!

Sally & Howard Heims

Bar Mitzvah of George Andreassi (August 24, 2019)

With great pride and joy we announce our son George Andreassi will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah at Temple Beth Am on August 24, 2019.

George is a brilliant and caring young man who we’re confident will use his intelligence and sensitivity to make great contributions to humanity. George is an advanced mathematics student at Independence Middle School and an amateur computer expert who is constantly thinking about ways to put his knowledge to good use.

George gets good grades in school and enjoys participating in the chess, Claymation, and puzzle clubs. George is also a Boy Scout who is close to achieving Second Class rank and has two dozen merit badges, including many required for the Eagle Award. George routinely volunteers for community service projects and activities with his fellow scouts.

George is a terrific brother who is always thinking about his big sister Rose and looking out for her interests. Whenever George gets something special, he wants to share it with Rose. George is also a loving and thoughtful son. George is a fun-loving guy who likes to play computer games, skateboard, scooter, and hang out with his friends from school and the neighborhood.

We want to thank Rabbi Alon, Brett Tancer, Marcy Morris and the Religious School staff for helping George prepare for his big day. We look forward to sharing this special occasion with our Temple Beth Am family and friends.

Bar Mitzvah of Ethan Schwab (August 31, 2019)

We are so thrilled to be celebrating Ethan’s upcoming Bar Mitzvah at Temple Beth Am on August 31, 2019. Ethan attended The One School at Temple Beth Am as a toddler, so TBA has always been a special place in our hearts.

Ethan is in 7th grade at Meyer Preparatory where he has studied Hebrew and Jewish Studies, in addition to his usual school work, since Kindergarten. Ethan loves watching and playing sports. He plays for the Meyer Prep basketball and flag football teams and plays recreational basketball at the JCC and Palm Beach Gardens Rec Center in addition to travel basketball for the Palm Beach Gardens Starzz. Ethan is also a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls.

Ethan will be working with Hope from Harrison for his Mitzvah Project. He will help make hearts to be given to NICU babies and their parents so they can have their scent while in the hospital. Hope from Harrison is a wonderful organization our family frequently supports.

We would like to thank Brett, Marcy, and Rabbi Alon for their patience, kindness, and hard work with Ethan during his Bar Mitzvah studies.

Our Children’s Service is perfect for families with young kids (ages 0 through 5). We sing, pray, tell stories, and no one minds if

your kids make a little noise, do a little dance, or don’t know the words.

If your kids have outgrown the Children’s Service but are not yet ready to sit through the morning Service, the Family Service is ideal for you. Our clergy will weave together rituals, prayer, music, and stories into an engaging High Holy Days experience for you and your children.

Would you like to dedicate a High Holy Days prayer book? Dedicating a Prayer Book is a great way to honor, remember, or show your appreciation for someone. Your dedication will appear on the front inside cover of our new High Holy Days Prayer Book. Doing so will help us offset the costs of our new High Holy Days Prayer Books. Dedications are $36 each.

TBA’s High Holy Days Food Drive is run by our youth group and benefits Alpert Jewish Family and Children’s Service. On the High Holy Days and Sukkot, we pause for reflection

and thanksgiving. On Yom Kippur, tradition encourages us to feed the hungry. Hunger is real, even in our area. Let us share what we would have otherwise eaten on Yom Kippur and more!

All food should be currently dated, unopened, and non-perishable. Kosher items preferred. No condiments or salad dressings other than mayonnaise. Priority items include pasta, tomato sauce, canned tuna, peanut butter, jelly, mayonnaise, cereal, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper

towels, applesauce, canned fruit/vegetables/potatoes, and vegetarian soups and pasta sauces.

You are invited to join us for a light Break-the-Fast following the concluding Service of Yom Kippur. If you are interested in sponsoring the Break-the-Fast, or making a donation to offset the cost,

contact Debbie Baseman at the Temple at 561.747.1109. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Bags will be distributed

during Rosh Hashanah

Services.

Return filled bags to truck at Temple Beth Am on Kol Nidre or

Yom Kippur.
