OT dress code
• All hair must be contained in cap• Beards must be covered• No open toe shoes• Scrub person must wear protective eyewear• Masks must completed cover mouth and nose• Change scrubs as soon as possible when soiled
OT areas
• Unrestricted area- street clothes permitted• Semi-restricted area-must have scrub attire
and cap• Restricted area-mask required
• General considerations:– Hands should be inspected for breaks in the skin– No open wounds– Mask must be put on before scrubbing– All surgical scrubs are of 5 minute duration with 2
½ minutes of time spent on each hand and arm– Generally: wash – scrub – wash

Points to Remember !1. GOWNS ARE CONSIDERED
STERILE FROM WAIST LEVEL TO CHEST LEVEL INCLUDING SLEEVES TO 2’ ABOVE ELBOW
2. STERILE PERSONS MUST HAVE HANDS IN SIGHT AT ALL TIMES
3. HANDS ARE KEPT AWAY FROM THE FACE, AND ELBOWS REMAIN CLOSE TO THE SIDE
4. NEVER FOLD ARMS UNDER AXILLA
5. BACK OF GOWN IS CONSIDERED CONTAMINATED
6. GREEN AREAS ARE STERILE AREAS
7. KEEP 1 FT DISTANCE FROM STERILE AREAS IF NOT SCRUBBED
8. KEEP TALKING AND MOVEMENT TO A MINIMUM
9. REMAIN AT STERILE FIELD WHILE SCRUBBED
10. AVOID CHANGING LEVELS (SITTING/ STANDING/ SITTING…)
11. TO SWITCH PLACES WHILE SCRUBBED, MOVE BACK TO BACK WITH THE PERSON WITH WHOM YOU ARE SWITCHING
