Victoria Season 3 premieres SUN Jan 13 | 9pThe third season of this lavish drama opens in 1848, when revolution is breaking out across Europe. In Britain, one woman stands between order and chaos: Queen Victoria. Jenna Coleman returns as the young but fearless monarch, facing a crisis that threatens to end her reign. Also returning are Tom Hughes (as Prince Albert), Nell Hudson (as Nancy Skerrett) and Ferdinand Kingsley (as Charles Francatelli). Joining the cast this season are Laurence Fox as the vainglorious Lord Palmerston and Kate Fleetwood as Victoria’s troubled half-sister Feodora.

Finding Your Roots season 5 premieres TUE Jan 8 | 8pToday’s brightest personalities discover the surprising stories buried within their own families in the fifth season of the critically acclaimed series. This season features an array of cultural trailblazers, including author George R.R. Martin; journalists Christiane Amanpour and Ann Curry; artist Kehinde Wiley; actors Laura Linney and Seth Myers; and politicians Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan. In a very personal episode, host Henry Louis Gates, Jr., explores his own DNA story.

Doc Martin season 8 premieres THU Jan 10 | 10pThe wait is over — Doc Martin returns this month! As the new season opens, Martin and Louisa are finally living together again with their son, James Henry, but their problems are far from over. Louisa finds herself juggling too many responsibilities and considers switching careers. Meanwhile, Portwenn is abuzz as the residents prepare for a wedding, and Aunt Ruth considers selling the family farm. Can Martin cope with all the changes?

Odd Squad: Odds and Endsone-hour special premieresTUE Jan 15 | 8aWith repeats throughout the month

A string of villain break-ins at headquarters leads to a revelation about Otis’ past that has the potential to change the future of the Odd Squad … and the world! Otis, Olympia, Ms. O and Oona team up to put things right in this one-hour Odd Squad event.

USS Indianapolis: The Final ChapterTUE Jan 8 | 10p

In the waning days of World War II, the USS Indianapolis

had just delivered “Little Boy” — the atomic bomb destined for Hiroshima — when it was torpedoed by

a Japanese sub in the Philippine Sea. It sank within minutes, becoming the U.S. Navy’s worst single loss of life at sea. In August 2017, an expedition launched by Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Paul G. Allen

discovered the remains of the ship. Now the definitive story of USS Indianapolis is finally being told.

Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World

MON Jan 21 | 10p

This documentary is an electrifying look at the Native American influence on popular music — despite attempts

to ban, censor and erase Indian culture. The film reveals that some early pioneers of the blues and jazz had Native

American roots. As the folk-rock era took hold in the ’60s and ’70s, Native Americans helped to define its evolution, forever

changing the trajectory of rock and roll.Photo courtesy of Rezolution Pictures

Doubt from the Minnesota Opera

FRI Jan 25 | 9p

In this new opera based on John Patrick Shanley’s play and film, suspicion ignites a battle of wills at a Catholic school in the Bronx in 1964. The

charismatic and progressive Father Flynn is trying to loosen the stranglehold of St. Nicholas Church School’s strict customs, which are fiercely guarded

by its principal, Sister Aloysius. When the young Sister James shares her suspicion that Father Flynn may be abusing a student, the principal embarks

on a personal crusade to find the truth and ruin the priest.

Along the way, the Rolls-Royce hosts a star-studded cast, including Alec Baldwin, Rosanne Cash, Chuck D, Emmylou Harris, Ethan Hawke, Van Jones, Mike Myers, Dan Rather and many more. turns up the heat this January!

Beyond Pluto | WED Jan 2 | 9pWhen the New Horizons spacecraft traveled past Pluto in 2015, we were dazzled by the breathtaking images it beamed home — and by the remarkable new details those images revealed about the dwarf planet. On New Year’s Day 2019, the craft will fly by an object beyond Pluto known as MU69 — the most distant flyby in NASA’s history, at 4 billion miles from Earth — shedding new light on one of the least understood regions of our solar system.

Quantum Entanglement | WED Jan 9 | 9pEinstein called it “spooky action at a distance,” but today quantum entanglement is poised to revolutionize technology. Physicists have gradually become convinced that the phenomenon is real — two subatomic particles that mirror changes in each other instantaneously over any distance — but questions remain. NOVA follows a ground-breaking experiment that uses quasars to find some answers.

Island Volcano | WED Jan 23 | 9pIn April 2017, Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted, obliterating neighborhoods and uprooting thousands of local inhabitants. How can one of the most beautiful places on Earth suddenly transform into a roaring inferno, sputtering molten lava and volcanic rocks the size of refrigerators? NOVA joins scientists and residents alike on a journey to investigate Kilauea’s recent spike in activity.
