All of life would become prayer

If we knew how to listen to God, if we know how to look around us, our whole life would become prayer. For it unfolds under God’s eyes and no part of it must be lived without being freely offered to him.

At first we communicate with God through words, which may be dispensed with later one. Let us then make use of spoken prayers, but soon discard words, as one does the peelings of a fruit. Words are only a means.

However, the silent prayer which has moved beyond words must always spring from everyday life, for everyday life is the raw material of prayer.

FOR THE HEALTH OF IT JUSTICE MINISTRY UPDATE

“Get Out to Get Lunch”

Second Church is now using the church bus to gather up members who don’t get out as much

anymore for a quick lunch. Sometime in August (date and time to be determined) we will be going to

Cracker Barrel to enjoy some good Southern cuisine and have some much needed fellowship in the

ambience of an old-fashioned general store. We will include a stop at the church so that members who

haven’t been able to get to church have an opportunity to see our redesigned sanctuary.

If you know of any members who might be interested in or could benefit from this program,

contact our parish nurse Jackie Graves ([email protected] or call the church office at 254-

7768). Also let her know if you or someone you know might be interested in serving as a chaperone for

this event; this is a great opportunity to help our members reconnect with the church and with each

other.

I will send down showers in season, there will

be showers of blessings. Ezekiel 34:26

I recently ran across a quote from

Rev. Rick Warren from 2013:

"There is a verse in the Bible that

says that Jesus went into every

village preaching, teaching, and

healing. I say that preaching is

evangelism; teaching is education; and healing is

health care. Jesus didn't only care about getting

people into heaven. He cared about spirit, mind, and

body. To me health care isn't only about getting the

sick well but helping the well not to get sick."

This is the essence of Parish Nursing and what a rare,

wonderful privilege to follow Jesus's example in the

role of your Parish Nurse with a congregation I love

dearly. Thank you to all who prepared my

reception, came to my reception, sent cards, left

messages, and shared their lives with me.

Blessings upon blessings. . . .

Jackie Graves, Parish Nurse

....and what does the Lord require of you but to DO justice, and to love kindness and to walk

humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

The 13th year of BUILD (Building a United Interfaith Lexington through Direct Action) kicks-off will be held Monday, September 14 with Team Leaders from 27 congregations ready to host their House Meetings. Last year, more than 500 gatherings were held within our community. At our (Fredda & Bill, Bobbie B., Catherine H., Jim D., and Judy M.) House Meetings, we will discuss what it means to live out God's call to Do Justice, share our concerns and hopes for Lexington, and how we can play a vital role in shaping our community to be more like a city of God.

If you feel "something needs to be done" about educational disparities within our schools, widespread drug abuse, elder care issues, economic injustice, lack of access to mental health needs, etc., your opportunity to share what really matters to you will be heard. Your participation helps BUILD identify an area of common concern for further research (to get to the root of the problem). We are looking forward to inviting you to our homes for these meetings. See you soon! ****************** Greater Lexington CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Hunger Walk will be held Sunday, September 27 at 3:00 p.m beginning at Second. Sign up on Sundays September 13 and 20.
