We’ve gone on Safari…

Second Style’s June issue takes you on a wild ride exploring the Urban Safari and heating things up for the summer. We’ve come up with some clever ways to incorporate animal prints into your summer wardrobe, as well as your home.

As you can see on the cover James Schwarz has been prowling about in one of this month’s photo spreads - Hunted, on top of that he managed to give us a more basic look in his regularly featured Bleeding edge. Heading in doors, Jennaa Lorie shows you how a well decorated space can be accented with just the right touch of animal print.

Stacie Pryor’s Style Icon for our 36th issue is Bronson Twine, and she has a nice long chat with him about his blog, and

personal style. Keeping with our theme, Elysium Eilde puts a twist on our summer swimwear recommendations with a wild weekend away at the shore.

I’ve given some great accessory suggestions to push that Safari look, and Gabby Panacek puts together a few fully accessorized city shots for the urban jungle explorers in To Top It off. Meanwhile, Rylan Carling dresses you from head to toe in The Look, helping to prepre you for some *real* jungle exploring, complete with animal print scarf and purse!

Lastly I would like to welcome our new addition to the Second Style team – Alicia Chenaux, and she brings with her this month’s Mini-Guide, where she samples up a few great pairs of sunglasses for your outings.

RAWR! Hitting the zoo and looking fab doing it! A fitted jacket from Skin Flicks, paired with a high-waisted skirt from *Ur-banity*, gives the feel of being Jane, off to find her Tarzan. Between viewing the monkeys and taming the lions, a *YS&YS* purse full of mags helps pass the time. Footwear is very important here because you’re constantly walking, the Annexx lace-up boots with the PIG duotone socks fit quite nicely. To pull it all together, we need accessories! The hat from Sn@tch keeps the sun off the delicate face and the autumn set from Exodi does a beautiful job adorning it. emotion that it generates in different settings. A print design in a woman’s closet can evoke a sensual, passionate yet energetic response. While for a man, the reaction if often one of virility, boldness and vigor.

Animal prints never seem to go out of style but should be used as an accent, rather than the primary feature of a room. To avoid turning your room into a jungle theme, carefully

place one or two quality pieces of animal print décor. Add a cushion to a large couch or daybed allowing it to bring out the other colors in your linen. Change the texture of a lifeless chair and watch it become a glamorous focal point.

While animal prints can seem bold and a little daring, when displayed properly, they have the ability to enhance existing décor and add a level of glamour and class to any room.

When I think of some of the strongest influences in male fashion, several names come to mind. But, in my opinion, there is one name that really sticks out as a stalwart in the male fashion community. I have always been a huge fan of Bronson Twine’s work on his (ir)regular guy blog, and I am certainly not the only one. Bronson has a tremendous following in the fashion community, and for plenty of great reasons. Not only is his blog one of the most original on the feeds, but his incredible sense of style is undeniable. I have had the great pleasure of being close friends with Bronson for quite some time, but I can assure you that my admiration of his work and praise of his fantastic sense of style are more than due. He has a distinct talent for scouring the grid for high quality male fashion, assembling his finds into superb, yet wearable, looks, and I have to give him a lot of the credit for influencing the male population of SL to put thought and care into what they wear. I also happen to know that Bronson is more than just a blogger: he is an absolutely amazing person with a heart of gold, a compassionate spirit, and a sense of humor like no other.

It took less coaxing than I thought it would (even though I know he is a bit reluctant to being an icon of any kind), but I was able to convince Bronson to sit down and answer a few questions about himself, his blog, and his style. And he was more than generous with his answers, giving us a peek at a side of himself that few people get to experience.

You have a very distinct blogging style and one of the most recognizable avatars on the fashion feeds. How has your blogging style changed or improved over time?

I like to think that my style of blogging has improved over the length of time that I’ve been doing it. The format has purposefully remained the same, but I think my photography has improved, and I’m more willing to experiment with different styles/looks than I was in the beginning. The blog is called (ir)regular guy as the initial idea was to represent the more regular guy on the grid - I added the (ir) part to give me scope to do the odd unusual or themed post if I felt like it. That concept is still at the heart of the blog, but as time has progressed I’ve found that I tend to blog items that inspire me or ones that I admire the construction of to a greater extent. As for the writing side of it, I’m much more likely to try and inject some humor into my random ramblings than I used to. I was far too self conscious to write much when I first started but my confidence has grown in that area, too.

You are also one of the most fashionable male avatars on the grid, and you obviously have a talent for styling your avatar. How would you best describe your personal style?

I’ve never considered myself to be fashionable or been the first to pick up on trends. My philosophy has always been to just find items that I like while trying to wear things that match tonally to create a cohesive look. As for my personal style, I guess I can’t really put a label on it. I’m a bit scruffy, a bit casual, and then there’s a whole bunch of other influences thrown in, too. I’m a bit of a music freak, and so I’m often influenced by that. However, I’ve always reserved the right to dress how I want on any particular day. I might be a bit psychobilly one day and then suited and booted the next. But that’s one of the joys of Second Life - the ability to look however you want.

Congratulations! You recently celebrated your blog’s first birthday. What has kept you blogging for so long?

I think its just the love of doing it. I’ve considered giving it up on a number of occasions, but then I’ve found an item that I love and want to take pictures of it, and one thing leads to another. I’ve also been lucky enough to receive a lot of positive feedback on it, and it’s great that people have been able to find things they love through the blog. So, as long as they still want me to, I’ll keep on doing it.

As a blogger, I know it can be difficult to blog on a regular basis or find sources from which you can draw consistent inspiration. What inspires you to blog so frequently?

For a while I was trying to blog every day, which eventually proved to be difficult as well as expensive as I buy the majority of things that I use. But I still try to do a few posts every week, and sometimes inspiration can be difficult to come by. However, there’s always something new to be found or some cool new release to try, and a post will often develop out of that. I’ve also taken inspiration from magazines or TV where I’ve seen a particular image and tried to create something similar.

Every blogger has several staples in their inventory that they just cannot live without. What are some of your favorite inventory items?

I have far too many favourite things, but if I were to somehow to lose the contents of my inventory, there are a few things that I’d have to re-buy first. I can’t do without the Lo-Tops from Urban Bomb Unit, jeans from Nardcotix, a few hats from Argrace and a couple of t-shirts from Aitui. I’d probably add the shirts and ties from Schadenfreude to that list, too. Actually, I could go on and on. And on. But I’ll stop now. I have attempted to style a male avatar on several occasions, and I know how difficult it can be to find quality male clothing in SL.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face as a male fashion blogger?

The only real challenge is that there is less choice for men than women. But even so, over the past year or so there have been more stores opening for men and more blogs appearing that focus on male fashion, which is a welcome development. There’s good stuff out there. Its just a case of finding it and mixing and matching stuff from different places until you come up with something that represents you.

Not only are you a fantastic blogger, but you are also an amazing photographer. Which do you enjoy more: fashion blogging or photography? And why?

I enjoy both equally but for different reasons - both are an outlet for being creative which is important to me. The blogging almost feels like a job now. However, it’s what I do and I enjoy doing it. Apart from the social side of Second Life it’s become my main reason for being here. The photography is something that grew out of the blogging. I use some free software to crop my blog pictures and one day decided to use a few of the other features and it developed from there. I’m still learning and still making it up as I go along but it’s something I do for fun for myself and a few friends.

with you over the last year, so I know that you are a genuine person, a great friend, and you are also very humble and modest. What are some other qualities you possess that most people would not know about you from reading your blog?

Those are all lovely things to say about me. Thank you. But to balance things out a bit I should say that I often get grumpy when I’m tired, I burp and break wind far more than is natural for a human being, and I judge myself far too harshly. But I also like to think I have a decent sense of humour and a laid back attitude to life in general. I hate arrogance and intolerance and love that, on the whole, Second Life is a place that embraces people from all walks of life for the person that they are. That’s a pretty special thing.

In your opinion, what is the most fulfilling aspect of being in SL?

The people. Be it the ones that I’ve been lucky enough to forge friendships with or the ones that fill our virtual world with incredible things that continue to amaze me. There are the ones who do wonderful things for others and the ones that always seem to be there to offer encouragement and support. There’s an amazing community in Second Life. There’s also a number of not so nice people that deserve to be poked in the eye repeatedly, but I’m hoping that if I ignore them for long enough that they’ll go away. Apart from that, it’s the opportunity it gives me to be creative, even in my own small way. It has enabled me to discover new ideas and music as well as develop skills I doubt I would have without it.

You will be celebrating your second rezday next month. What has kept you logging in to SL for almost two years? And what can we expect from you and your blog in the future?

Initially, Second Life was a place for me to hide following some issues I was having when I first discovered it. And, in many ways, it’s still a place to hide, but it’s become much more. On a basic level, I can log in for entertainment, but friends and the opportunities to be creative and develop skills keep me logging back in. I don’t know what the future holds. I’m far too lazy to plan things too far in advance. I’ll keep blogging until something dictates that I have to stop, and there’s always something new to try my hand at and see how that goes. Ultimately though, I just want to have fun doing whatever I’m doing and strive to be the best I can be at whatever that is.
