being disciples. This will also be by Zoom. Contact Deacon Seamus if you

are interested in being part of this.

Hymns for Sunday Mass Peace, perfect peace, is the gift of Christ our Lord, Peace, perfect peace, is the gift of Christ our Lord. Thus, says the Lord, will the world know my friends, Peace, perfect peace, is the gift of Christ our Lord.

Love, Joy, Hope I, the Lord of sea and sky I have heard my people cry All who dwell in dark and sin My hand will save I who made the stars of night I will make their darkness bright Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord Is it I, Lord? I have heard You calling in the night I will go, Lord If You lead me I will hold Your people in my heart

I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people's pain. I have wept for love of them. They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send?

I, the Lord of wind and flame I will tend the poor and lame I will set a feast for them My hand will save Finest bread I will provide 'Til their hearts be satisfied I will give my life to them Whom shall I send?

Lord make me a means of Your Peace Where there’s hatred grown Let me sow Your love Where there’s injury Lord Let forgiveness be my sword Lord make me a means of Your Peace Daniel Schutte

Lord make me a means of Your Peace When there’s sadness here Let me sow Your joy When the darkness nears May Your light dispel our fears Lord make me a means of Your Peace Lord grant me to seek and to share Less to be consoled Than to help console Less be understood Than to understand Your good Lord make me a means of Your Peace Lord grant me to seek and to share To forgive in thee You’ve forgiven me For to die in thee Is eternal life to me Lord make me a means of Your Peace John Foley SJ

Pope Francis asks us to think about ‘A Culture of Care as a Path to

Peace’. “How many resources,” he says, “are spent on weaponry,

especially nuclear weapons, that could be used for more significant

priorities such as ensuring the safety of individuals, the promotion of

peace and integral human development, the fight against poverty, and

the provision of health care.” Pope Francis calls on us to “strive daily, in

concrete and practical ways, to form a community composed of

brothers and sisters who accept and care for one another.”

‘Build back better’ says the slogan (with its wonky grammar). But

‘better’ means attending to all, beginning with the most vulnerable.

‘Better’ means realising that we are indeed all brothers and sisters and

acting accordingly. ‘Better’ means valuing the ones we used to overlook

and rewarding their contribution. ‘Better’ means realising that our fu-

ture flourishing depends on the 'social capital’ we have – individuals’

gifts and stories and a shared desire to contribute to the Common

Good. ‘Better’ means refusing to accept injustice as ‘just the way it is’

and refusing to accept conflict between the nations as ‘just the way it

    is’, too.

We’ve made a start towards ‘building back better’ with our response to

the pandemic during this last ten months. In 2021, let’s continue that

journey, working together to fashion a world in which all can belong

and, while living in peace, can contribute their gifts, their care, their

kindness. Nowhere is the call to join hands in friendship more needed

than in building peaceful relations between nation states and overcom-

ing the distrust that so damages relations between different countries.

In this country we have an active Catholic peace movement in Pax Christi. Their website suggests many ways we can all promote peace in our daily lives. There are activities for families to do at home, including a 15-minute peace liturgy for young children. www.paxchristi.org.uk/peace-Sunday-2021 Follow them on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook for reflections and news We would normally have a second collection for the work of Pax Christi but you can donate on the website above.
