SECTION 08 80 00 - GLAZING

Guardian’s ShowerGuard is the industry's first easy to clean glass. Its surface is protected during manufacturing through an ion beam process. This patented technology permanently seals the glass surface, protecting against corrosion and discoloration. This means with regular care, using ordinary household cleaners, ShowerGuard glass will look beautiful for years to come. ShowerGuard is available on clear glass and UltraWhite low-iron glass. ShowerGuard by Guardian Industries is also available in combination with Guardian’s acid-etched SatinDeco. Its patented manufacturing technology seals the un-etched glass surface, stopping corrosion before it starts. This means with just a minimal amount of cleaning, ShowerGuard SatinDeco will look as elegant as the day it was installed. The ShowerGuard coating faces the interior (water side) portion of the shower enclosure and SatinDeco (acid-etched side) faces the exterior. ShowerGuard SatinDeco is available on clear base glass. 1.01 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For each glass product and glazing material indicated.

B. LEED Submittals:

1. Product Data for Credit MR 4.1 and Credit MR 4.2: For products having recycled content, documentation indicating percentages by weight of post consumer and pre-consumer recycled content.

a. Include statement indicating costs for each product having recycled content.

2. Product Data for Credit MR 5.1 and 5.2: For regional materials indicating location and distance from Project of material manufacturer and point of extraction, harvest, or recovery for each raw material.

a. Include statement indicating cost for each regional material and the fraction by weight that is considered regional.

The following paragraph applies only to acid-etched ShowerGuard SatinDeco glass products by Guardian Industries; retain as required.

3. Submit verification that disposal of waste products derived from the acid-etching process complies with current environmental legislation.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

Retain the following for ShowerGuard and ShowerGuard SatinDeco glass products by Guardian Industries Corp. as required.

A. Source Limitations for Glass: Obtain coated [acid-etched] glass from single source from single manufacturer for each glass type.

B. Fabricator Qualifications: A firm or individual certified, licensed, or otherwise qualified by glass manufacturer as experienced and with sufficient trained staff to fabricate products specified in this Section and whose products have a record of successful in-service performance.

C. Safety Glazing Standard: Where safety glass is indicated or required by authorities having jurisdiction, provide types of products indicated which comply with testing requirements of 16 CFR Part 1201 for Category II materials.

1.03 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver and unload shower glass in a dry condition.

B. Store shower glass in a dry, well ventilated area, protected from the elements. Do not store outdoors.1. Store at temperatures above 59ºF (15ºC) and at maximum humidity of 60 percent

to avoid condensation.2. To avoid staining, keep away from sources of heat such as ovens/furnaces or

high temperature washers and corrosive materials or agents such as organic solvent vapors, chemicals, acids or fuel.

3. Protect the coated side from contact with any surface which could leave dirt or marks on the glass.

4. Protect the acid-etched side from contact with any surface which can leave dirt or marks on the glass.

C. Comply with manufacturer's instructions for handling shower glass. Handle wearing clean, dry gloves. Avoid sliding or rubbing one piece of glass against another.

1.04 WARRANTY

A. Provide a manufacturer’s Limited Warranty to the original end-user that the product will be free from visible staining, corrosion, and discoloration under normal use. The warranty may have standard limitations and be subject to the user following recommended cleaning, installation, and handling procedures. .

Note that Guardian Industries Corp. begins the consumer 10 year limited warranty period at the date of purchase.

2.01 COATED SHOWER GLASS PRODUCTS

This Article applies only to acid-etched ShowerGuard SatinDeco glass products by Guardian Industries Corp.; retain as required.

SatinDeco is manufactured in Spain with top-quality float glass, using Guardian’s continuous acid-etch process, in compliance with European standards. An acid is applied that dissolves part of the glass, creating a smooth and flat surface. Its extra smooth finish doesn’t allow body oils to penetrate the glass. This makes SatinDeco extremely resistant to stains and fingerprints and remarkably easy to clean.

Guardian is an innovative company that is committed to the environment in its processes, practices and products. The SatinDeco manufacturing line in Spain includes advanced technology to treat waste products derived from the manufacturing process. The plant fully complies with current environmental legislation. It was one of the first Spanish companies to receive an integrated environmental license, as well as the ISO 14001:2004 certification.

This Article applies only to acid-etched ShowerGuard SatinDeco glass products by Guardian Industries Corp.; retain as required.

SatinDeco by Guardian Industries Corp. is manufactured at Guardian Industries Corp.’s Spain facility on float glass according to Spanish Standard UNE-EN 572-2.

A. Fabricate acid-etched glass using top-quality float glass, in compliance with European standards (UNE-EN 57202 Norm). Apply acid that dissolves part of the glass, creating a smooth and flat surface that disperses light and transforms transparent float into a translucent glass. Apply acid only by continuous curtain process to ensure a smooth finish which does not allow body oils to penetrate the glass; is resistant to stains and fingerprints; and complies with other requirements specified. Dip process acid-etching is not permitted.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION

A. Install ShowerGuard with the coated side on the water exposure (interior) side of shower doors and enclosures.

The following paragraph applies only to acid-etched ShowerGuard SatinDeco glass products by Guardian Industries Corp.; retain as required.

B. Install ShowerGuard SatinDeco with the coated side toward the water exposure (interior) side of shower doors and enclosures and the acid etched side on the outside (exterior) of the shower enclosure.

3.02 CLEANING AND PROTECTION

ShowerGuard by Guardian Industries Corp. uses patented technology to help keep minerals, scale and soap scum from corroding shower enclosure glass. A soft cloth or wet sponge and most common household cleaners are all that is required for periodic maintenance. Refer to the manufacturer's website at www.showerguardglass.com for a complete list of approved cleaning products.

A. Wash glass using a soft cloth or wet sponge and a household cleaner approved by glass manufacturer. Rinse with clean water. Do not use abrasive brushes, razor blades or other sharp objects which may scratch the coating or glass.

ShowerGuard SatinDeco by Guardian Industries Corp. acid-etched glass should be washed with water (results will be better with water temperature of 120-140°F [40 to 50ºC]) followed by a cool water rinse. No special chemicals are required. Use soap and water or regular glass cleaner and a clean, soft, lint-free wipe for spot cleaning and stubborn marks. Mr. Clean® Magic Eraser® is also effective.
