It has often been said that values cannot be taught, they must be caught. The need of the hour is to strengthen the moral and cultural fabric of the individual, society and the nation. It is the parents, teachers, elders and leaders in society who act as role models for the younger generation.

Their behaviour, action and non-verbal communication often sets a trend and acts as a catalyst for students. Schools need to implement the value education programme through activities and projects. Universal values such as love, peace, tolerance, brotherhood and co-operation should be reinforced through various literary projects. An effort should be made to celebrate all the festivals of all faiths. By doing this, students are sensitised to the dominant strengths of all religions. Human rights must be respected and protected. Gender sensitivity must be inculcated from an early age, so that students grow up with respect for the opposite sex. Schools can use various platforms such as morning assemblies, seminars, inter-house and inter-school competitions to promote activities that foster the values of compassion, kindness, helpfulness and fraternity.
