STYLIST TRAINING :
As a TONI&GUY and essensuals in-salon Staff Trainer, you will already be a key and established member within the team. As Staff Trainer you are responsible for the growth and development of the next generation of Stylists, to guide, support, encourage and motivate students as well as acting as a mentor to the junior team members.
To ensure that the TONI&GUY and essensuals education standards are constantly updated and
maintained throughout the UK, it is vital that the Staff Trainer attends all Area Network Training
meetings and attains the TONI&GUY and essensuals Staff Trainer Diploma – by attending Art Team
training group two. This will enable the Staff Trainer to strengthen and develop their skills, as they
are responsible for developing the next generation of Stylists, which in turn, will secure our future
success.

The NVQ training programme is a requirement for all TONI&GUY & essensuals assistants – the
TONI&GUY NVQ programme is soon to be available nationwide, for further information please contact
CathyWeston,DirectorofEducationforTONI&GUYUKTrainingLtdT:01619234922
1STYEAR–COURSEBREAKDOWNAssessments are ongoing throughout the whole period of time a student is undergoing their NVQ
Training.
Throughout the 1st Year of Training for NVQ, all of the theory is delivered for all nine units which make
up the NVQ. This will also cover the practical techniques including a total of eight haircuts and eight
styling assessments.
Assessments which can be carried out in the 1st Year can include:
Cuts: One Length, Forward Graduation, Square Layers
Styling: Vertical Roll, Wet Set, Dry Set, Round Brush, Diffuse
2NDYEAR–COURSEBREAKDOWNWorkshops take place mainly throughout this final stage and as many assessments are completed to
achieve all outstanding units. All written work is also completed in this time.
A consultation sheet and head sheet is required for each assessment model.
TONI&GUYSPECIFICREQUIREMENTS.Whilst the NVQ training runs alongside our in-house training programme, NVQ is not the only
requirement for our assistants. The Staff Trainer is responsible for ensuring that ALL TONI&GUY &
essensuals techniques are completed within in-salon training sessions and verified by them, in order for
the assistant to have a thorough understanding of all techniques.

in assessing whether an assistant is ready to complete the Pre-Vardering assessment. Particular
attention should be given to the more complex elements of the Future Classics and would ideally
include focusing on the transient, precision and men’s scissor over comb techniques.
The mini-vardering presentation is also an ideal opportunity to ensure that assistants have a
thorough understanding of TONI&GUY philosophy and terminology.
A presentation required for all assistants prior to entering the pre-vardering programme. To be
personallyassessedbytheFranchisee/SalonArtisticDirector/StaffTrainer–toensurethatstudents
arrive prepared with the correct level of skill and understanding of techniques.

The Pre-Vardering training programme was introduced to ensure the level of education in-salon was raised to a higher standard before Assistants progress to the Vardering Programme.
This course will allow the student to familiarise themselves with the Academy environment, and pose any questions that they may have prior to the intensive Vardering programme. It will also help them to improve and strengthen their techniques, correct any bad habits and ensure that they have the confidence needed to get the most out of the Vardering process.
A compulsory requirement prior to Vardering, Pre-Vardering is a three day Training Assessment course which runs Wednesday through to Friday and is free of charge to all Franchisees. On the final day(Friday)aProgressReportwillbecompletedtoassessthetrainees’progressandability, whichwill determine whether the Assistant is ready to commence on the Vardering Programme.
In the event of your assistant not reaching the level required to join the Vardering Programme, there are two options which can be followed. The first is for the assistant to attend the Academy for further training; this will be charged at a rate of £30 per day, per assistant. The second option being for your in-salon Staff Trainer to give your assistant in-house training before returning to the Academy for a further one day training Assessment.
Pre vardering ensures that perspective stylists enter the Vardering programme with the correct skill set needed to complete this challenging course. The key focus of the Vardering programme is ‘polish’, not to teach techniques, but to motivate the hairdresser to seek perfection in their work. An unprepared student will not only be unable to complete the course but could also find the process overly challenging and de-motivating.
By maintaining this high standard of entry requirement to the Vardering programme we ensure that all stylists that graduate are able to offer a consistently high standard of hairdressing - safe guarding the TONI&GUY & essensuals brand and the standard of hairdressing within your individual salon.

a core standard of quality. This is achieved by developing the student’s skills and refining their
techniques, through a series of workshops, demonstrations and theory classes.
All students are continually monitored not only on their cutting and styling ability but also on their use
of terminology, product knowledge, attitude and appearance to ensure that all graduates represent the
TONI&GUY/Essensualsbrandethos.
