Road Design in SurvCADD is a simple fill-in-the blank process accomplished within the command Earthworks& Final Contours. The necessary input elements of road design - centerline, profile, template and existingground sections - are all defined in one dialog box. Changes in template design are displayed visually as youcreate the template. SurvCADDs template creation is the most visually interactive design road design packageworking inside AutoCAD.

With SurvCADD you can quickly generate profile or section data directly from photogrammetry contours withoutrequiring a triangulation file. SurvCADD uses points located within any search distance on C/L to create profilesor cross-sections. You design the Road/Sewer Profiles on-screen with SurvCADDs unique sidebar readout ofthe current station, elevation, and slope data. Vertical curves are designed using sight distance, K-value, unequalcurves, or through point methods.

Using Earthworks & Final Contours you can easily apply road profile and ties design template to existing sitecross-sections and generate finished grade cross-sections & contours, trimmed to limits of disturbed area withvolumes. End area volumes are computed instantly between any two stored cross-section files while plottingincludes up to four cross-sections files at a time, along with all elevations and descriptions.

Section Defaults - Section layers, reports, grid or sheet plotting, and horizontal andvertical scales are among several settingsthat may be preset prior to section plotting. Input-Edit Section Alignment - New dia-log-based routine for creating and editingsection alignment files (.MXS). New optionsinclude stations at crossing polylines andoffset limits by perimeter polyline. Draw Section Alignment - Added optionto label stations parallel or perpendicular toalignment polylines. Sections from Surface Entities - Cross-sections are created by selecting a horizon-tal alignment file (*.MXS) and then select-ing those entities (contours and barrier lines)that intersect the selected alignment. Cross-sections are stored in a cross-section (*.SCT) file. Since AutoCAD's initial release of ver-sion 12, SurvCADD has been creating cross-sections directly from AutoCAD screen en-tities. Elevation data along a line, 2D or 3Dpolyline, and 3D mesh that intersects a se-lected MXS horizontal alignment file is writ-ten as station and offset data to a cross-section (*.SCT) file for plotting, earthworkand template design. Sections from Polylines - Converts previ-ously plotted cross-sections stored asAutoCAD drawings to a (*.SCT) file. Pickstation, datum elevation point on grid, enterhorizontal and vertical scales then pick thecross-section polyline. Important feature forcreating cross-section files (*.SCT) from oldcross-sections drawings or drawings re-ceived from external sources. Sections from Points - Create cross-sec-tion file (*.SCT) from screen plottedSurvCADD points along MXS horizontalalignment file. Additional search distancespecified ahead and behind for each station.A search distance of 5' from station 1+50would search for all points a distance speci-fied left or right between stations 1+45 to1+55. Sections from Grid or FLT File - Cross-sections are created by selecting a MXShorizontal alignment file (*.MXS) and thenselecting a stored grid or FLT file. All inter-sects along the MXS file on the grid andFLT files are stored to a cross-section(*.SCT) file. Sections from Text File - Create cross-sec-tions from ASCII coordinate files. ASCIIfiles must have elevations and stations withoffset distance left, center or right in the de-

scription. Sections by Layers - Similar to Sectionsfrom Surface Entities except you specifywhich layers to test for intersects foundalong the MXS horizontal alignment file. Digitize Sections - Digitize sections in planview from photogrammetry maps or fromcross-sections sheets. Digitize end-areavolumes by digitizing two cross-sectionsplotted together on one grid. Section Conversion - Convert cross-sec-tion files from external sources (Agtek, Ceal,Moss & RoadCalc) to SurvCADD. ConvertSurvCADD cross-section files to RoadCalc

files. Also convert SurvCADD cross-sec-tion files to SurvCADD point numbers or 3Dpolylines from a polyline or MXS file. Rock Sections - Input-edit rock section filesand overshoot section files for rock cutearthwork quantities. Points on Section - Plots template detail forany template (e.g. road, channel, ditch, tun-nel.. ), by station and vertical alignment file.Plots surveyed points as point number, el-
