Welcome to our 33rd Annual Conference

February 6, 2013

Welcome to our 33rd Annual Conference in Miami Beach! Thank you so much for participating in this event. Please join us in thanking our sponsors, because without their kind contributions we would not be able to offer this conference to our attendees at such an amazing rate. Each sponsoring firm’s attendees are wearing the ‘Sponsor’ Ribbon. Please help us thank them for their generous support.

I would also ask for your help in thanking our dedicated STAF Officers and Board members who worked tirelessly at planning our conference and to bring timely topics to you. We hope that you enjoy the educational content from our three panels; High Frequency Trading, Latin America and Buy-Side discussions.

STA Florida continues to champion educational charities. This year we honor Wall Street Warfighters Foundation. Their mission is to identify, develop and place service disabled veterans in careers in the financial service industry. You will hear more from their spokesman; Mr. Brooks Hulitt who is joined by one of his recipients, Mr. Ryan Martin. Let’s give them a warm welcome, and please bid generously at the Charity Auction!

Please enjoy the formal and informal conference networking events and opportunities which includes golfing and fishing, as well as the Opening Cocktail Reception. To keep the camaraderie going, we will also host a Closing Cocktail Reception which will feature some special activities.

I hope that everyone will join us for lunch on Saturday to hear our keynote speaker, Mr. Keni Thomas, who was a Ranger in the “Blackhawk Down Mission’. He is also an Award-winning country music writer and Spokesperson for The Hero Fund.

I am proud to serve as President of The Security Traders Association of Florida. I have been active in the organization since 2005 and will continue to do my very best in bringing to our membership timely and useful educational content with the support of our STA Florida Officers and Directors.

January 29, 2013

Dear STA Members,

On behalf of the Officers and Governors of the Security Traders Association, it is our pleasure to welcome each of you to the Security Traders Association of Florida’s 2013 Annual Conference.

Even though the recent elections did not produce a change in the balance of party influence, 2013 will be an eventful year in Washington, D.C. Changes from the make-up of strategic Congressional Committeesto the Chairmanship of our primary regulator, will have rippling effects on every level of entity which hasa say on our marketplace. While these changes will bring new perspectives to the legislative and regulatory processes, we need to ask ourselves; what happens to the efforts of the previous Congress and SEC Commission as these new changes take hold? Will existing initiatives continue down their current paths, to be debated by new players? Or, will new ideas spawn.

The Security Traders Association believes that there is no time to rest when it comes to thought leadership on the current market structure issues we all face. There are many factors impinging on one another right now – and the road ahead is unclear and will affect many. Therefore, we will aggressively utilize our affiliate leadership and grass roots association to DISCUSS these issues which carry massive consequences for all participants, especially investors. Seeking solutions to complex issues is not STA’sinitial goal. Educating individuals on the facts so well informed opinions can be generated is and will remain our initial and primary goals. Informed opinions result in better decisions which ultimately contribute positively to investor confidence.

Beginning in January with the first Chairman’s letter sent to the entire membership – we will continually reach out to our members for comment on specific market issues. You can look for the STA Monthly Newsletter and the questions on market structure that affect you most. If you have an opinion – we insist you let us know. Use your affiliate boards and local members – and fire up the discussion! We need this bottom-up approach to OUR issues so we can communicate them across the country.

I am certain that what you are feeling is being felt in much wider circles. Those feeling thoughts and opinions need to be presented to our regulators and representatives in Congress in a well organized and thoughtful process. The STA is uniquely positioned to present business-model agnostic viewpoints to our leaders in Washington, D.C. – and they have become accustomed to our unique voice.

Participate….communicate…enjoy the great people that represent the STA. Your voice is important and powerful – if you choose to use it! We hope you do – and will be seeking your thoughts and words all year long.

Start strong and speak often and loudly! We are going to provide the thought leadership for the business we love starting today.

Warmest Regards,

Tom CarterChairman of the Board

STA Florida Proudly Honors Wall Street Warfighers Foundation and Ryan Martin, a WSWF Student.

Ryan Martin was born and raised in Washington State where he developed a deep respect for veterans, particularly his relatives who had served in the military. After high school he went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Oregon University in 2002 where he was a member of the baseball and basketball teams. After completing his undergraduate work, Ryan attended law school at Hofstra University, graduating in 2005. During his final year at Hofstra, he made a decision to enlist in the Army as an Infantryman and was placed in the Delayed Entry Program to allow him to finish his coursework and take the bar exam in New York and New Jersey.

In September, 2005, Ryan shipped out to Fort Benning, Georgia where he attended Infantry One Station Unit Training, Airborne School, and the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP). Upon completion of RIP in April, 2006, he was selected to join the 75th Ranger Regiment and was assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington. Ryan deployed three times to Iraq and one time to Afghanistan as a member of a Joint Special Operations Task Force. During these deployments he participated in hundreds of classified raids pursuing high value individuals.

Between deployments, Ryan was able to attend night classes at St. Martin’s University and earned an MBA. In February, 2010, Ryan received an honorable discharge. Following his discharge from active military service he accepted a position with the US State Department as a security contractor at the Baghdad Embassy in Iraq. He spent two years there serving on the Ambassador’s Protective Detail.

In September, 2012 Ryan moved to Philadelphia to participate in the Wall Street Warfighters Foundation’s in-resident program. He is interested in pursuing a career in investment management or in a Special Situations Group. He holds Series 7 & 66 licenses.

Keynote Speaker: Keni Thomas

• Ranger in the “Blackhawk Down” Mission• Award-winning country music artist • Spokesperson for The Hero Fund

biography:

In the summer of 1993 Sergeant Keni Thomas was deployed to Mogadishu Somalia with the 3rd Ranger Battalion as part of an elite special operations package called Task Force Ranger. Their mission was to find a capture a criminal warlord named Mohammed Farrah Aideed. On the 3rd of October, Keni and his fellow rangers distinguished themselves in an eighteen hour fire-fight that would later be recounted in the highly successful book and movie “Blackhawk Down”. Nineteen Americans gave their lives and 78 were wounded in the worst urban combat seen by US troops since WWII.

A powerful speaker, Keni captivates audiences from beginning to end as he tells the incredible story of extraordinary individuals and how they fought to bring each other home. Drawing from his experiences on the battlefield, Keni inspires people to achieve greatness by stressing the importance of outstanding leadership at every level, even if the only person you are leading is yourself. His message of “Train as you fight - Fight as you train and Lead By Example” epitomizes the Ranger motto “Rangers Lead the Way!”

Keni sums it up like this, “Leadership has never been about the rank or the position you hold. It’s about the example you set. There are people to your left and to your right who are counting on you and it’s up to you to deliver. But you will only be as good as you prepared yourself to be.”

After Mogadishu, Sergeant Thomas volunteered for one more enlistment in the Army. He became an assistant team leader for a six-man ranger reconnaissance team. He earned his master parachutist rating with over 400 military free fall jumps. He completed the Special Forces Combat Diver course, became an Advanced EMT and was one of ten Americans to complete the Belgium Commando Course.

Page 21: Security Traders Association Annual Conference · their spokesman; Mr. Brooks Hulitt who is joined by one of his recipients, Mr. Ryan Martin. Let’s give them a warm welcome, and

Keni got out of the Army to pursue his music career and now works full-time as an award winning country music recording artist and songwriter in Nashville. He and his band Cornbread were featured in the movie “Sweet Home Alabama” and his music can be heard on country stations nationwide. Keni continues to serve our troops with regular tours to Iraq and Afghanistan.

He is a regular guest on all the major news networks as a military analyst and was also a military advisor for the Mel Gibson movie “We Were Soldiers”. He has been recognized by the President of the United States, by Congress and has been awarded the American Patriot Award. But Keni is most proud of his appointment as a national spokesperson for the Hero Fund and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. They provide college educations to the children of our special operations personnel killed in combat or training.

“Our special operations warriors are the tip of the spear. Their’s is a dangerous and high risk mission” says Thomas. “Because of that, they’re losses are disproportionately high when compared to the rest of our military. Taking care of their kids, is the least we can do. It’s what those dads would have wanted.”

Keni Thomas is a graduate of the University of Florida, and the recipient of the bronze star for valor.

El Titan de Bronze Cigar Mfg.El Titan De Bronze™ Cigar Mfg. has been established since 1995 in Little Havana, Miami, FL. All of our cigars are hand crafted in the USA by “Level 9” rollers all of whom have worked for world-renowned factories such as Romeo y Julieta®, Corona®, and Partagas®. Each cigar is made in the traditional Cuban style of tubing the filler (entubado) and

then finished off with a beautiful triple cap. Each “tarea” (days work) is then inspected by another Master Roller/Blender, boxed and dated to ensure the cigar is of the highest standard for the aficionado. Due to the high standards placed upon our rollers our cigars are made in small quantities to ensure quality and consistency that only a boutique manufacturer can produce.El Titan De Bronze™ delivers a taste and quality rarely found outside of Cuba. We invite you to try one of our cigars and experience what so many aficionados have already found with El Titan De Bronze™ Cigars. Enjoy!
