Presidents as servant leaders 3.11

Following Christ’s example, the Presidents at all levels

of the Society endeavor to be servant leaders. They

provide an encouraging atmosphere in which the talents,

capacities and spiritual charism of the members are

identified, developed and put to the service of the

poor and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The

President of the Conference or Council will have special

responsibility for promoting Vincentian spirituality.

Our Three Essential Elements

• Spirituality

• Service

• Friendship

What challenges are you facing in your Leadership Development?

-

Why do we follow?

Roots of Leadership & Authority

• Attracted to a leader’s charisma --- voice our pains and provide us with promise

• Do leaders influence history or do the times produce the leader?

• Power & Dominance Under stress, we might grant extraordinary power and give away our freedom May unfairly look to authority to solve problems and then rid ourselves in the

hope that ‘if only we had the right leader our problems would be solved.’

• Time of Transformation Should a leader be more influential upon us or influenced by us? Is the leader responsible to elevate followers to goals for the greater good?

It’s About That Moment In Time 5

“We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community... Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.” --- Cesar Chavez

As the Society leader, what seat am I called to play today? Tomorrow?

For my clients, what seat am I called to play today? Tomorrow?
