Page 2: Self esteem in the workplace

High self-esteem isn’t necessarily a good thing in the workplace

But it isn’t a bad thing either…

Confused?

More confused?

Although some employees with high self-esteem will represent ‘the bad,’ for the most part, those are the rare (or not so rare, depending on your line of work) few who have some narcissistic characteristics….

The Down-low

Ultimately, your company, and the majority of your employees will benefit from a boost in self-esteem.

How to build self-esteem

Check-ins and feedback: Provide your employees with many

chances to speak with you about their progress. Make sure you comment on how they have developed, and provide some praise. Sugar coating isn’t necessary… just give them The Goods.

How to build self-esteem

Give employees challenging, but attainable goals. If your employees feel like they are

being challenged, they will feel more accomplished when they reach a goal. But, if the goal is too high, they are likely to get discouraged!

How to build self-esteem

Give clear instructions: One of the hardest things for

employees is to try to complete a task when they don’t really know what you want. Give them clear instructions, and they will feel more confident in delivering the product.
