Student life thrives here. Students spend the majority of their time on main campus which features a variety of residence halls, dining halls and classroom buildings. By touring through main campus, you’ll walk the same path the first class of NC State did starting in 1887. Tradition began on this campus - from the Memorial Belltower to Reynolds Coliseum.

NC State’s Centennial Campus, known as our research campus, is home to the College of Engineering and the Wilson College of Textiles. Hop on the Wolfline, NC State’s bus system, and you’ll be on Centennial Campus in just a few minutes! You’ll also find local businesses housed on this campus with plenty of opportunities for internships.

Anchored by the College of Veterinary Medicine, NC State’s 250-acre Centennial Biomedical Campus (CBC) is an extension of NC State’s Centennial Campus. In partnership with corporate and government entities, the focus of this campus is on biomedical research, both to animals and humans.

REYNOLDS COLISEUMReynolds Coliseum was the home of the 1974 and 1983 men’s basketball national championship teams coached by NC State Hall of Famer, Jim Valvano. While the men’s basketball team now plays at PNC Arena, Reynolds is home to women’s basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, volleyball and our ROTC offices. Take a stroll through the NC State Hall of Fame or play a game on the interactive screens!

TALLEY STUDENT UNIONThe heart of all student life on central campus - Talley Student Union is constantly buzzing with students. This is a great spot to grab a bite at one of a variety of dining options or stock up on NC State items from the bookstore. Talley is the hub for campus departments in student leadership, student engagement and the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity.

CARMICHAEL GYMNASIUMAll your sport and exercise needs can be met at Carmichael Gymnasium. The gym features everything from two Olympic-sized swimming pools to a sauna, weight training rooms and a rock climbing wall. Step onto one of our many courts and put your skills to the test. Don’t have the equipment you need for your favorite sport or next outdoor adventure? You can easily check it out from Carmichael.

STUDENT HEALTH CENTERNC State’s student health center is home to Student Health Services, the Counseling Center and Disability Services.

You don’t have to travel far for all your health needs - the health center also includes a full pharmacy, physical therapy clinic, allergy clinic, women’s health services, lab and x-ray services, licensed psychiatrists and more. Routine visits are part of your tuition and fees package. Specialty services have a minimal cost.

WITHERSPOON STUDENT CENTERWitherspoon hosts a variety of student organizations, including the African American Cultural Center, WKNC radio station and the Technician (NC State’s campus newspaper). Enjoy watching movies? Witherspoon also has a movie theater on the first floor where students can watch movies for free.

CENTRAL CAMPUS HOUSINGOften known as the “Tri-Towers,” Bowen, Metcalf and Carroll are suite-style residence halls. Exploratory Studies students live in Owen and Tucker halls which are traditional hall-style and part of the Exploratory Studies Living and Learning Village. Not quite sure what you want to major in? Students in Exploratory Studies are given the opportunity to explore all programs on campus before choosing a major.

Residents of Owen and Tucker host Battle of the Beach - a longstanding tradition of an annual volleyball tournament with the winner gaining naming rights to the beach. Want more information on housing? Visit https://housing.dasa.ncsu.edu.

FREE EXPRESSION TUNNELOne of NC State’s iconic landmarks is the Free Expression Tunnel. It provides students a place to express their thoughts and feelings - everything from “happy birthday” to club meeting announcements. Grab some spray paint and make your mark!

THE BRICKYARDAnother iconic landmark of NC State is the University Plaza, known as The Brickyard. Throughout the school year, you will always find some type of event being held on The Brickyard, from Ag Awareness Week (including live cows and sheep) to Habitat for Humanity’s Shack-A-Thon, where students build and live in shacks for a week to raise awareness for affordable housing in Wake County.

D.H. HILL LIBRARYNC State’s main campus library provides plenty of optimal study and meeting spots. The Learning Commons features a space for students to collaborate, study and have access to various technology. Need a pick-me-up during studying? The library also features a coffee bar and the Howling Cow Creamery. Between D.H. Hill and Hunt Library (located on Centennial Campus), there is a library open 24 hours, five days a week.

COURT OF NORTH CAROLINAYou’ll see students reclining on the Court of Carolina on sunny days between classes eating lunch or studying for their next exam. On snow days, it’s home to an epic campus-wide snowball fight. Professors utilize this space during nice weather as an outdoor classroom for that day’s lecture. The Court of North Carolina is lined with some of the oldest buildings on campus.

THE MEMORIAL BELLTOWERCompleted in 1937, the Memorial Belltower has stood as a symbol of identity for NC State. The belltower is a memorial to NC State students who gave their lives to serve our country in World War I. The belltower will light up red for holidays that honor veterans and to celebrate NC State’s achievements. It’s also a place for celebration after winning a big game, as well as the starting point for the Krispy Kreme Challenge - a five mile race held each year. The task? Run to the nearby Krispy Kreme, eat a dozen doughnuts and run back to the belltower in under an hour.

PARK SHOPSPark Shops houses the University Tutorial Center (UTC) and DELTA (Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications). If you need help with a subject, UTC provides free tutoring for chemistry, math, physics and writing through weekly tutoring sessions or drop-in tutoring. As a student, you may also have classes in Park Shops. NC State’s average class size is 35 students with 90 percent of classes taught by faculty.
